Follicular and Lymphohistiocytic Infiltrate – Balding Blog

I’m a 34 yo white healty male. When I was 30 (2 mts before I turned 31) I noticed a lot of hairs on my pillow and when I ran my hands through my hair. My hair was extreamly thick. When I was 32 I went to a local Dr. that is a hair specalist. He did a biopsy said 2 vellus hairs to 25 total hairs. Had mild follicular and lymphohistiocytic infiltrate. He says I dont have AGA.

Fast forward two years to today, Im 34 hairs still come out same rate(been on propecia 2 yrs) biopsy says I have 3 velous hairs out of 23 total hairs. My family has little to no MBP (only mothers brother and her father a little) I see zero frontal recesion, no balding in the crown. No change in the way my hair is around my head other than its getting thinner everywhere, sideburns, sides, nape of neck, crown, vertex, all thinning at the same rate. What are your thoughts?
Thank you

Biopsies should not be done to rule in the androgenetic alopecia (AGA) diagnosis. They should be saved for special forms of alopecia which require the microscopic analysis and staining techniques that show cellular details. When doctors find lymphohistiocytic infiltrate, they often look to classify other cells in the area of biopsy which should not be present in large quantities, for large quantities of lymphocytes, eosinophils, etc, may point to infection or auto-immune diseases. The diagnosis of AGA is better made with a video densitometer (see Miniaturization: Critical to the Master Plan for Hair Loss), as it is non-invasive and simple.

Bald Spot Occurs Every Other Year, Then Regrows – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I have an occipital baldness. My family thinks that I have pulled it out. In actuality, my son has the same weak spot. My dad had this circle shaped baldspot on his occipital scalp. I noticed that when I shave/taper this area. It will grow back. Sometimes long sometimes short straight hairs will protrude.. At any given rate, the baldspot on the occipital area will occur every other year. Why does this happen?

I would have to render a guess. This is the first time I can remember having this question put to me. Synchronous hair cycling is something humans are not supposed to do. It is possible that your hair in this area has a shorter geneticaly programmed hair cycle than the surrounding hair. This would produce a bald area in the hairs that have a shorter hair cycle, but I would doubt that it would be a complete bald spot — rather, a thin spot. If you are near one of my offices in California, I would agree to map out your balding spot and compare it to the surrounding scalp. A study of the hair shaft thickness may demonstrate the answer to your question.

Masturbation! Hair Loss!!! – Balding Blog

I started masturbating when I was 12 and I continue to do now at 19. All in all, I’ve averaged 3-4 ejaculations a day, all this along with a diet that is strictly based on meat. My baldness is unlikely to be genetic since all my have have kept thier hair. So is masturbating a lot along with a poor diet the reason for my hair loss ?

I’ve gone over this before, but simply put, masturbation will not cause you to lose hair. This is an “old wives’ tale” to stop what nature pushes men to do. If masturbating would cause hair loss (even 3-4 times a day) then the vast majority of men would be bald.

Poor diet can cause hair loss. You must have a balance of the proper daily recommended foods to get a good diet. Even a daily dose of ‘fast food’ should be able to get you the balanced diet to keep your hair.

Hair and Weather Temperature – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello Doctor.

  1. Do you think that taking propecia prior to exercise could increase your testosterone levels better than in the morning?
  2. I usually go to ski in summer in a indoor installations at 0 degrees C and notice a small improvement in my hair texture comparing to the external temperature at 40 degrees C here in Spain. Is that possible or do cold and hot temperatures have no effect in hair?

Thank you very much

  1. I generally tell my patients that it is best to take finasteride in the morning when normal testosterone levels are highest. It makes the most sense to me. I would also doubt that exercising and the drug have any cyclical impact on testosterone.
  2. We can logically believe that if hair is a good insulator, it should get thicker when the seasons change, much as animals do with thicker coats of fur in winter. But humans have asychronous hair cycling, which means that we do not shed (thin) at a particular time of the year and grow hair stronger at other times.

I Am Fine With a Receding Hairline — I Think – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello. I was wondering if TE can cause any kind of receding of the hairline. Also i did have burning and redness on the scalp and everything happened all at the same time. I must say if it is mpb, i am totally fine with it(One step at a time) although i feel that stress could be a contributor, yet i i heard it also might not be. My hair is thin on top but it is also thin on the sides but not as thin. I was wondering if you could possibly tell me what it is? My hair grew back thin after it was thin before but not as thin, and this all happened after i had perming done to the scalp which caused the redness and irriatation of the hair. I did not have a receding hairline in high school and i am 21 (male) and just now noticing things. Thanks.

Knowledge is power, so smarten up and take charge of what is happening to you. If you are fine with whatever is happening to you, leave it alone and do not obsess with it. If you are not fine with it, then see a good doctor. Sounds like you are not fine with it and may be denying it if it really bothers you.

Hair Breaks 3 Inches From Root – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I have a question for my friend.. She has had hair breakage about 3 inches from the root. She has had over 15 surgeries in the past 7 years due to a motorcycle accident.. Her hair breaking has been an issue for over a year or 2.. She has had blood work done and nothing was found wrong. She has made an appointment with a hair specialist to do a test on a piece of her scalp. Is there any other simple reason that the doctors would be looking over like her nutrition? I am concerned for her and I wanna help her as much as I can.. If you have any answers for me I would appreciate it.

Stress from surgery can cause hair to fall out. I have often stressed (no pun intended) the importance of miniaturization mapping of the scalp to see the pattern of hair loss. This may be of benefit to your friend.

With regard to hair breakage (if it were you), I would want to know more about how you manage your hair, how you brush/comb it, what shampoos and conditioners you use, what changes you have implemented prior to noticing the breakage problem, and what the nutritional status of your body is (the hair may reflect vitamin and other nutritional deficiencies).

Hair Loss from Anemia – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

i was recently in a hospital for severe iron deficenty my red blood count was 2 out of normal of 14. it was determined that i have been aneimic for close to a year. i experienced a lot of hair loss during that period. my question is if aniemia was root cause will the hair grow back? thank you doctor

From your description I am not certain if you are male of female. The cause of hair loss is generally very different between men and women. Gender differences aside, hair loss from severe iron deficiency anemia should reverse if it is corrected. However, people generally respond differently to such stress on their body and the hair growth may be varied. If you are a female, anything that causes hair loss can become permanent if you have the genetic code for female genetic hair loss. In other words only time will tell.

Scalp Pimples Cause Hair Loss? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Male – Age 20, Question: Do Scalp Pimples cause any amount of hairloss whatsoever?

Hi, usually over the summer i get oily hair for some reason and with that i get scalp pimples. they occur in random places all over and can get to a decent size. they hurt only when i would accidently scratch over top of them or when i try to pick one. my question is, do scalp pimples in moderation cause hairloss, i mean i was wondering because since its a pimple it would cover the hair follicles resulting in no oxygen, etc.? and when the pimple drys out it leaves sorta a scab like cap over the hairs until its washed away or picked off. prove me if i’m wrong here. i’m just concerned. thanks

Pimples in the scalp generally do not cause hair loss unless infection gets out of control. You need to see a good dermatologist to control them, for that is no way to live.

Asymmetrical Facial Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I have a question about facial hairloss. I am 34 years old male and have never had a problem with hair loss untill about 5 months ago. Thats when I noticed a diamond shaped bald spot on the side of my chin it was at the time smaller than a dime. It has since grown to be over two inches. About a month ago I saw two more small bald spots on the other side of my chin. They have since grown together and are now about the size of a nickel.

Can you tell me what might cause this and do you think I need to see a doctor?

Any info you have would be very helpful. Thank you

Balding spots that are not symmetrical may represent infections like ringworm, or autoimmune problems like alopecia areata. I would suggest seeing a dermatologist.

If I See White Bulb on the End of Falling Hair, Does That Mean It Is Lost Forever? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I am a 22 year old male. I have noticed more shedding than usual in the past months. When I look at the individual hairs, there is definitely a tiny white follicle on the end of each one. My question is, since there is a follicle on the end of the hair that has fallen out, does that mean more hair can never grow back from the location it fell out in? Thank you for your time.

Block Quote

The white dots you see at the end of the hair shaft do not necessarily mean your hair will never grow back. That is not the way we diagnose hair loss. When you pull on normal hairs, some will come out with a white dot on the end. This is normal, but the key is how many hairs came out with such a pull. More than 10% would be abnormal, requiring an expert to evaluate you (see FPNotebook.com – Hair Pull Test).
