Deca-Durabolin and Hair Loss – Balding Blog

I have used Deca Durabolin (Nandrolone) for two weeks (100mg/week) and I have started to lose hair. I have been told that tropical use of Spiromide and Minoxidil should stop the hair loss.

After doing some research I read in some forums that Deca Durabolin counter acts Minoxidil or Propecia. I would like your expertise on how to stop my hair loss and/or possibly reverse it. I am a 30 year old male.

Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid (such as Deca-Durabolin) and can accelerate androgenic alopecia (AGA), otherwise known as male pattern baldness (MPB). First, I would suggest that you stop taking it. See whatever doctor who is treating you and ask him/her about this. Unless you are under the supervision of a medical doctor, using anabolic steroids is illegal in the U.S. and also dangerous to your health. If you are under the care of a physician, I would address these issues with him/her. There is no role for me here.

Can Tetracycline and or Tazoric/Differin facial cream (for acne) cause hair loss? I am a 21 year old male and I have been losing hair quite rapidly, got tested for thyroid disease and low iron and my tests came out fine. I was wondering if these medications are used long term (2-3 years or longer) can they cause hair loss? The most common cause of hair loss in males is genetic hair loss. If you are concerned about genetic hair loss, you need to see a doctor who can examine your hair under a microscope (miniaturization study) and assess the pattern at which you are losing your hair. I have noticed that my hair has been thinning the more cocaine I do. If I stop using the coke, will the hair come back? If so, how long do I have to have it out of my system before it comes back?

Stopping it can’t hurt you hair! As for how long it will take for regrowth — I don’t know that your hair will fully regrow, if at all.

I am a 58yr old female, my doctor gave me a Z-pak steroids for a sore knee, 10 day treatment. Ever since then I’ve noticed my hair is falling out. Do you think the steroid pak was the cause? If so what can I do to stop it?

i was wondering, although in my late 20’s, i had been given a prescription for Propecia (by Derm) and told maybe to include Rogaine (minoxidil 5%), for a bit thinning in the crown area, also can you believe getting a little grey, well since i am involved in athletics, i’ve seen you post that “growth hormone” may also cause hair loss (i take some supplements), is there a web-site with that info you can refer me or others about it? i’ve been searching, and all i see is “growth hormone” helps hair growth on scalp? here is one link i saw:

Most of the human growth hormone sites on the web mention hair loss as a side effect. I have even seen it in my practice. I would suggest that you research the subject more — Google is a good place to start. Your prescribing doctor is another good resource.

Hair Loss and Cymbalta – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I believe my hair is falling out from taking Cymbalta. I believe hair loss is a side effect of Cymbalta. Is it not? Though I am not on lithium or any other drug I am experiencing dry scalp and breaking out (pimples) on top of my head. My hair loss is on the top of my scalp from hairline to crown.

Will this come back? I am now taking HGH to help with it. Are there any other steps I can take to stop this and actually regrow what I have lost?

Hair loss is listed as a rare side effect of Cymbalta (duloxetine HCI), and unfortunately I do not have enough experience with reversal of the hair loss from this drug. With the advice of your doctor, you can stop the drug or try an alternative to see the impact on your hair. You hair should be mapped out for miniaturization to be sure that one knows what is going on and if the hair loss corresponds to a genetic pattern.

For the readers that are wondering what Cymbalta is: Cymbalta is used for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and for the management of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP).

Hello! I have been on Yasmin for 6 months and am noticing hair thinning. I spoke to my OBGYN and she decided to put me on YAS. I am a little reluctant to start “YAS” because I know that it is the sister pill of YASMIN. My question is, is hair loss also a side effect of YAS. My physician didn’t seem like my hair loss was a big deal, however, I am freaking out when I see CLUMPS come out in the shower!!! Thanks so much!! Kinds Regards

The progestin (progesterone-like hormone) in Yasmin is very similar to spironolactones, which are used for the treatment of hair loss. Alteration in a women’s hormone levels can affect both hair growth and hair loss. Birth control pills contain estrogen and may result in a hormonal imbalance. If you are losing hair from the use of YAS, then just switch to a sister type pill (get it from your doctor). Discontinuing these hormones can also impact hair loss.

Dear Dr. Rassman, I’ve read on your blog that beta blockers can accelerate hair loss in men with MPB. Is there a specific amount (on average) of this medication that usually triggers balding? For example, someone taking beta blockers for high blood pressure would probably take a higher dosage than someone taking it for performance anxiety. I take it for performance anxiety. Are the people who take a higher dosage for blood pressure the people who usually see hairloss as a result?

Also, do certain types of beta blockers cause more hair loss than other types?

There is no particular dose of beta blockers that would cause more hair loss. More importantly, you may be confused by my prior posts. Many drugs can cause your ot lose hair, but medication is the LAST thing on the list of other, more common causes of hair loss. Medications (including beta blockers) do not cause androgenic alopecia (AGA) or male pattern balding (MPB).

You should not start or stop or change any medication regimen without consulting your doctor.
