Thinning Runways an Indicator of Further Baldness? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

RunwayHello,

Thanks very much for answering my previous question. I thought of another question that I can’t find the answer to in previous posts. I know from your posts that recession at the temples and some recession in the frontal hairline is the sign of a “mature” hairline and will not necessarily lead to genetic baldness. Is slight thinning in the “runways” along the sides of the head or on the crown always an indicator of further baldness to come, or can thinning happen in these places as part of a normal mature hair pattern, without leading to further baldness?

Thinning in the runways or anywhere in the crown usually reflects miniaturized hairs. This is often the precursor for balding. Sorry if you don’t like that answer. Few do!

Blister-Like Bumps on Scalp After Chemo – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Doctor,
I have had 2 cycles of chemo, Taxol and Carbo. My hair started to thin out and 14 days and due to the massive shedding, I had my kids shave my head. About a week later my head was covered (no room for another)in what looked like chicken pox blisters without the fluid. After a while I figured out that these might be ingrown hairs. Do you have a solution on how to rid these sore and annoying bumps. It seems my hair is still growing a little bit, I bet that will be short lived after round 3! Thanks so much for your help!

Have a good day

Chemotherapy makes you more susceptible to infections. If you shaved or clipped your hair, did you damage your scalp with nicks of bleeding points? I would worry about folliculitis, and would suggest that you get to your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Chemical Castration Effects on Hair – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

hi dr, ive read some on chemical castration, is there any way to produce the effects of castration that it has on your hair without actually doing it and so avoiding the other effects

Castration prevents hair loss because without testosterone, one can not make DHT and without DHT, balding does not occur. It is well known that removal of the testicles will prevent hair loss, but I have not seen anyone willing to take up this cure. Castration will not reverse what hair loss has already occurred, but it is the ultimate DHT blocker for preventing what may yet unfold. I do not know of a way to do what you’re asking though.

I Need to Look Good For a Wedding in 6 Weeks – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I know you’ve mentioned several times that it’s redundant using Regaine while on Propecia, but i’ve only started taking Propecia and I need to look good for a wedding in 6 weeks, while Propecia won’t kick in for at least 3+ months. Would it be worth taking both until the wedding then go back to just using Propecia?

Thanks

You can not dictate timelines to your hair. Six weeks may be far too short a period to expect changes. Think more like many months and even up to a year or two to get the benefits of Propecia or minoxidil.

My Doctor Is Not Concerned About My Eyelash Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

(female) I have lost over half my right eye lashes and I am continuing to lose more. In the last few days, my left eye lashes have begun to fall out. I have asked my family physican and he says it’s “just one of those things”. I just want to know if it is or if there is some treatment for it.

Do you have a history of plucking your eyelashes and if so, are you doing it now? If you lose localized hair anywhere on your body, it may be a sign of an autoimmune process and it may not be a healthy process. Do you have hair loss elsewhere? Is there miniaturization of the hair on the scalp indicative of a more general hair problem than you are observing now? You should watch it carefully, look carefully at the rest of your hair and scalp and if it extends or is present elsewhere, then a good dermatologist may be a good next step.

Eyebrow Hairs Fall Out By Touch – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi I was just wondering if it was posible for the hairs in your eyebrows to fall out if you comb or touch them. thanks.

You have to be doing something to the eyebrows, because they should not fall out just to a touch. With that said, you could have some disease if you have not applied anything to them. See a good doctor. There isn’t anything else I could offer via the internet — you need an in-person exam by a dermatologist.

Hair Loss InformationWorking Out and Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dear Dr. Rassman,
Is working out/weight training a cause for hair loss. I have read that DHT levels increase after workouts. Could you comment on this and suggest alternatives?
thanks.

I would doubt that working out will increase hair loss even if there are subtle changes in DHT levels. Stress reduction benefits and general body health should produce healthier hair because your body is healthier.

Hats, Hot Showers, and Other Hair Loss Myths – Balding Blog

I am a teenager of 15 years old that is experincing hair loss in the front of my hair(hair line). i have become woried and obssesed with finding a solution so i have made an apointment to get medical attention. i think the reason for my hair loss is using too many hats, taking showers with hot water, and shampoing everyday. now i learned this was wrong so i stoped.

Question: is there anything natural and healthy for the hair that you can recommend for me to use?

I heard that aloe vera plant, boiled cinammon glove is good treatment to restore the health of the hair. is this true?

CapWearing hats, taking showers with hot water, and shampoing everyday will not damage your hair unless you are pulling on it or picking it. I strongly doubt that among the values claimed for the aloe vera plant, that hair growth is one of them. On the internet, I did find suggestions that boiled cinnamon sticks in solution will help increase hair health, but I would suggest that if you use this, you might let it cool down first. Sounds like you are obsessing over your hair. See a good dermatologist and find out what is happening to you now, before you worry more and let this impact your life.
