Equol – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dear Doctor:

Have you heard anything about the availability of Equol on the market? I understand equol binds to dht, essentialy deactivating it as it can not bind to the androgen receptor and cause hair loss. I have heard that there are “equol producers” that are able to create natural equol through a unique gut bacteria that converts soy into equol. I have heard that there are many that are not producers. Do you know if equol is being synthesized in the lab for use? Thanks very much!

Block Quote

Equol is a nonsteroidal estrogen that is made in human intestines from soy foods. Its DHT blocker function is documented, but in practice it has never been completely studied as a replacement for conventional DHT blockers such as finasteride. Best Hair Product Combo to Use? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Can I for instance use:
Propecia pills
Hairmax
Organic shampoo

All at once? What is the best combo? Your advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Block Quote

There is no “best combo”. I do not endorse any products. I only prescribe medication such as Propecia (finasteride 1mg), because it works. All others are “buyer beware” as far as I’m concerned. With respect to the Hairmax laser, I have written extensively on that topic (here).

Forza-T and Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I’m 23, male… Normally I have healthy hair as does everyone in my family, but about 6 months ago I took Forza-T that I think caused my hair to thin out. Forza-T boosts testosterone, so I figured my DHT level got too high. So I took DHT blockers just recently and that made it worse! My hair is noticeably thinner/weaker, and overall I just feel unhealthy compared to how I was before. I’m positive the DHT blockers caused it because I noticed a significant difference in my hair and skin within minutes of taking them. Anyway, is this permanent or is there something I can do to fix the problem… in a natural way. i’m scared to take anything now that’s not completely natural. Thank you!

Forza-T claims an increase in free testosterone from the use of this product. There is, of course, no proof, but if you take that claim at face value, it will almost certainly increase hair loss.

You sound like you are playing with fire. DHT blockers (I am assuming that you are talking about finasteride as that is the only FDA-approved medication for treating hair loss that blocks DHT on the market today) will NEVER give you an instant change. Please note that hair above the skin is dead, not alive, so it could not possibly change in minutes. Are you possibly body dysmorphic?

Used Shampoo with Silicone, Now Have Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Please Doctor can you help me. I am a male 27yrs old. 2yrs ago i used a french shampoo which contained silicon. i do not wish to name the brand or company cause i dont know the legal implications. I had nothin wrong with my hair but it always used to be a bit dry after bathing so i decided to use this shampoo to try help it. I really regret using it now my hair is no longer thick and it keeps fallin out. 2yrs have passed now and i hoped it would stop but it seems to slowly be gettin worse. I know they say if something is not broke dont try to fix it and i really regret it now. Is there anything i can do to stop this and why do they let companies sell these things when they dont work and only make things worse. The shampoo said for all hair types and and no side affects please help me.

I doubt that a commercially available shampoo will cause hair loss. Instead, what you may be noticing is coincidental circumstance. Your hair loss may be due to genetic causes.

Hair Loss InformationAminexil vs Minoxidil – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello,
can you please explain the difference between “Minoxidil” (Regaine) and “Aminexil” (Dercos SP94)? I am having troubles choosing between these two products.
Many thanks.

Block Quote

Aminexil is made by the large cosmetics company L’Oreal and is reported to act in a similar manner as minoxidil. As L’Oreal is behind it, there is an aura of credibility to it. Aminexil is not tested according to the FDA, so there is no way for me to judge from reading the material if there is value similar to minoxidil, as stated in the various publications I read.

6 Weeks with the LaserComb — No Results – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I found this new video about one user’s experience with the Lasercomb: Gizmodo.com – Lab Rat: HairMax Laser Comb Final Results

Any time you want to see results of anything that you use for hair growth, it takes a good 8 months of treatment to see the results. I know that the people who manufacture this product suggest that you get results in 90 days, but that claim is what I find unbelievable, not that there are benefits after 8 months.

Are There Foods to Make Hair Thicker? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I’m receding and using certain supplements to control it, with some amount of success.

However, I seem to be growing lots and lots of thin, dry hair. What are the best foods to make my hair thicker and give it more moisture.
Many thanks

I do not believe that there is a one to one connection between certain foods and hair thickness or growth rate, provided that you are eating a healthy diet. The body is a wonderful regulator of growth. With that said, there are many articles that say otherwise and many products being sold that promote better hair growth through nutritional supplements.

Someone Told Me About a Home Remedy for Treating Head Fungus – Balding Blog

My sister-in-law has a one year old daughter. She was born with a head full of hair and she combed her hair everyday like she was supposed to and greased it. She used rubber bands to put braids on her hair and now all of a sudden at the top of the child’s head her hair has come out in big hunks, but just in that one section. So we took her to the doctor and he said it was a head fungus. It looks like big puss bumps and then they bust open by themselves and the puss and blood come out of them. The doctor gave her two types of medication for the fungus and a hair shampoo and he told us to grease her hair with vaseline everyday. But I was told by someone that I could mix Monostat Seven and vitamin E oil together to help it and it would make her hair grow back healthy and even thicker this time. Is this true or do you all have any other suggestions that you could tell me. She now has to wear hats everyday with her hair all down and vaseline on her scalp daily. Please help us if you can.

Treatment of scalp fungus could take a long time and even after treating it, you need to wait a few months for the hair follicles to generate new hair. My recommendation to you is to stick to the recommendation and treatment plan of your dermatologist.

Could My Shampoo and Conditioner Routine Prevent Hair Regrowth? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

My hair is dry so I shampoo and condition once a week and spray in a condtioner everyday. Is it possible that my routine could cause a build up and prevent hair regrowth?

While I doubt your hair washing regimen is preventing hair growth or promoting hair loss, there may be a hygiene issue. There are no topical shampoos, conditioners, or medications (other than minoxidil) that are proven to grow hair.

Parachute Therapie for Hair Loss? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I just wanted to know that there is a product in Indian market by MARICO – called Parachute Therapie ,its a reputed company but I want to know if the reasons for Hair Loss mentioned and treatment is genuine??? you can consult parachutetherapie.com

Thanks a lot…I am really troubled with Hair Loss

That’s an attractive website with no real information on it, so I can not tell you what it means or if it contains anything of its value. What I did learn was that it is a 45 day oil treatment. The site says, “Parachute Therapie’s Natural Root Activising Alpha Proteins are a unique combination of various ingredients that are researched and proven.” Really, this tells me nothing.

When I read your question, I immediately thought of jumping out of an airplane…
