The Sandwich Spread Solution to Hair Loss, Patent Pending – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

MayoWho could have guessed that sparing the mayo was not good for the bald spot in the back of your head? And now that a U.S. Patent was filed, makes it all even more valid, right? Sounds delicious.

From the article —
According to the patent’s description, the “magic formula” essentially consists of mayonnaise in a concentration of between 55 and 64 percent by weight, olive oil in a concentration of between 12 and 15 percent by weight, carrot oil in a concentration of between 12 and 15 percent by weight, and collagen in a concentration of between 12 and 15 percent by weight.

Hair Loss InformationScalp Tunnels and Attaching Wigs to the Scalp – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Received two semi-related questions, so I’ll answer them as one —

Hello,
Several years ago I had tunnel graft surgery and I’m now in need of the clips. Can you advise me on a source where I can find them? It’s been rather difficult to locate them

Block Quote

Someone told me that you could sew a wig into the scalp. Is that true and does it work?

Block Quote

Unfortunately, I do not know who might sell these clips.

For those of you who do not know what a scalp tunnel is, it is described in PubMed as:

A new procedure for attaching a hairpiece to the scalp is described. Two skin-lined tunnels in the anterior and posterior scalp are built, using a strip of free full-thickness donor skin fron the postauricular area. Silicone-coated metal clips, suitably fashioned from .062” Kirschner’s wire, are then attached to the hairpiece. The metal clips are inserted into the skin-lined tunnels and thereby anchor the hairpiece to the scalp.

These permanent tunnels (more like bridges made of scalp skin) are created to hold a wig (also known as hairpiece or hair system) in place instead of glues or tape. It is a barbaric and deforming process, not considered anyone’s standard of care today. Note that the description on PubMed is dated October, 1976.

There have been many things that people have done that are (in hindsight) a little nutty. There are three ways that I have seen the wig attached to the skull.
Sew scars

  1. The picture on the right was of a patient who went to a company in New Jersey who hired retired doctors to actually sew wigs through the scalp skin directly (see photo at right of patient with scars from this procedure). These almost always got infected and when the patient came back to the doctor, the stitches were switched to a non-infected part of the scalp. As you can see from the pictures, the scalp was heavily scarred from the infections. At one point, I was hired by the New Jersey Medical Board to prosecute the doctor, but the doctor was replaced by another who then went through the same legal process. When the State tried to shut this company down, the company closed down and opened under another name. I do not know if they are still playing this ‘cat and mouse‘ game with the State of New Jersey.
  2. A doctor actually drilled a metal connector into the skull. The wig had a male like clips that connected with a mechanical fit to the part that was drilled and cemented in the skull. The wig could be buttoned in and out with great ease.
  3. The art below shows skin tunnels (an old procedure that required a skilled surgeon to fashion in the scalp) which are use to tie ‘shoe laces’ that were attached to the wig. The process was promoted as simple as putting on and taking off your shoes (except you just did it with your wig).

Egg Yolk and Vitamins to Keep Hair Healthy? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

EggHello, i have been reading your blog for a few months now, and i think its very informative well done, however i am unsure over a few area:

  1. If you start to develop your “mature hairline” between 17-20 does this mean that you are destined for balding?
  2. I have viewed a couple of other sites apart hairloss products to prevent hairloss, i noticed a few vitamins such as A and B were said to help keep the hair healthy also the website stated that egg yolk’s keep the hair healthy aswell.

Block Quote

  1. The maturing hairline has nothing what-so-ever to do with genetic balding. So to answer your question — no.
  2. If you have a healthy diet, taking vitamins will have little impact on hair loss that is not caused by vitamin deficiencies. With regard to egg yolk on the hair, I’ve read that it can make a good conditioner, but I personally stick to the bottled conditioners.

Applying Instant Coffee and Aloe Vera to Crown – Balding Blog

Dear Doctor:
I have read interesting information regarding the use of caffeine and the stimulation of hair growth. I understand that the ammount needed to affect hair growth would require massive ammounts of caffinated beverages. I have been applying a teaspoon of instant coffee mixed with aloe vera gel to my thinning crown in an attempt to stimulate growth because the hair on my crown is MUCH shorter than the surrounding hair. I have ordered anhydrous caffeine powder and will discontinue the coffee. Chances are, there will be no appreciable effect. Am I damaging anything? Is there any evidence that you know of to support the idea that caffeine, applied topically, can dammage hair? Here is the link I am referencing:

PubMed – Effect of caffeine and testosterone on the proliferation of human hair follicles in vitro.

Thanks!

You are a creative person, but being creative will not (statistically) discover the cure for balding. Caffeine applied to the scalp should have no effect on your hair (unless you pour burning hot coffee on your head — which I am sure you know not to do).

Nutricap – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

hi
im 17 yrs old. lately i have noticed my hair falling out more and more increasingly. i have no stress, i get enough sleep and my diet is fairly balanced. however i have used the hair dryer and straightener very often, do i need to stop their use?

is taking NUTRICAP tablets enough to stop/reduce my hair loss? do i have to complement this medication with NUTRICAP serum and shampoo? thanking u in advance!

A hairdryer and hair straighteners in general will not cause you to lose your hair.

Nutricap, supplements, and shampoos may claim benefit for hair loss, but there are no medical studies that prove they actually work. You are free to try these products but from a medical perspective, I cannot recommend these products over anything else. Hair straighteners can damage hair, so be careful with their use.

Selsun Blue Shampoo and Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am 17 years old and recently it seems like my crown is thinning. There is a visible area in the back and my brother was the one to point it out. I recently started using Selsun Blue for my dandruff. I’ve heard that it can cause hair loss. Any truth to that? This is really making me go crazy.

Selsun BlueI highly doubt that Selsun Blue is the cause of your hair loss. If you are losing hair on the crown area which is typical of male pattern hair loss, you may have “genetic male pattern hair loss”. If you are still concerned about hair loss, see a good hair transplant physician to see if you are a candidate for medical therapy such as Rogaine or Propecia. A good doctor will map out your scalp hair for miniaturization and can put a number that will tell you if you are balding.

What is Livon? – Balding Blog

Hi.
I want to know that what is livon and what is ingredients oil or what is the name of chemical or other? how it is care our hair?

Best regards

My quick Google search shows that Livon is some sort of a hair product, but the fact that it is difficult to define what the ingredients are says a lot to me. I am uncertain if it claims to grow hair, but if it does claim to do that, it is just one of the many hair growth products in the market making such statements. I do not know of this product, but my motto has always been that it is a “buyer beware” market. Proceed with caution.

Zhangguang 101 – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

hi dr. Rassman,
i would like to know your opinion on Eastern Medicine regarding hairloss, particularly this product which i’ve heard over an asian website recently http://www.101international.com/

created by Dr Zhao Zhangguang. Do you think this is a scam? thank you

I do not know much of eastern medicine nor of Dr. Zhangguang so it would be unfair for me to comment on it. There could be value here, but no one knows. There have been many products and treatments for hair loss since the beginning of time. To date, I only know of two products for treating hair loss that have been scientifically proven and approved by the FDA to work — Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia (finasteride). Even Rogaine and Propecia have limitations and neither are a miracle cure. Remember that the power of suggestion and the placebo effect (sugar pills) can also work for some.

I’ve Been Using the Hairmax Lasercomb for 5 Months… – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I have been using the Hairmax Lasercomb now for about 5 months and have noticed that my hair is thicker BUT not necessarily thicker from the root or epidermis.. It seems like it makes thin hair look thick but it still falls out at an alarming rate and still ACTS like thin hair. On some of the hair that falls out, you can tell that around the bulb area the hair is still thin-and then on other hairs, it looks thick all the way through which is encouraging. What is your reaction to this?

I am not sure if you are stating that you are seeing a benefit, even though your hair is falling out. If it is working for you, I am happy for you. If you can achieve the same (or better) thickening result from a product like Toppik, wouldn’t that be a cheaper solution?

I know that I tell everyone that they should get their hair mapped out for miniaturization to obtain a metric for change, and I’ll recommend doing so again — then you could put numbers to what you are telling me about.

Yunsey Hair Loss Shock Treatment – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

have you heard of Yunsey hair loss shock treatment product? If so, do you know how effective it is in preventing hair loss?

I have not heard of this Yunsey hair loss shock treatment. From my brief search on the internet it seems to contain “Hydrolyzed Soya Protein” and “Herbs Extract”, which I doubt to be effective in preventing hair loss.
