Over 80 Clinical Studies Prove New Apple-derived Treatment Improves Hair Growth Without Side Effects

I have been impressed with this approach. Having read about it in the medical journals before, I would think it has value and it seems to be worth a try. I’m not endorsing the product for which this press release is announcing, but I’m simply saying that the procyandin B-2 in this product might be good to try.

Article – Swelling from Hair Dye – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

TEENAGER Jack Taylor was left looking like an ‘elephant boy’ after trying to dye his hair black.

His head swelled up after he had a suspected allergic reaction to dye made by L’Oréal — whose slogan is “because you’re worth it”.

The 15-year-old still has a rash on his face and body TWO WEEKS later — and is being treated with steroids and antihistamine tablets.

Hair Loss InformationRogaine on the Forehead – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Doc,

I am a 24 year old male and am just starting to use Rogaine. I have no hair loss on the top of my head, but have the widow’s peak going. I am trying to find out if Rogaine works the same on the forehead as on the back of the head. The directions on Rogaine said “not intended for forehead use”, but I didn’t think it mattered. I also use Procerin as well. Should I continue to use this, or is it detrimental to my hair? Any information would help.

Thanks

Procerin states that it reverses hair loss and there is promotion that it is a DHT blocker without any proof. The buyer should be on alert with such claims in the product. Are you wasting your money?

Minoxidil (Rogaine) is worth a try for keeping the widow’s peak, but Propecia would be better. Let me know what happens to you, as there is no evidence one way or the other that either medication will hold the widow’s peak that is disappearing from MPB genetics.

Long Term Effects from Chemical Burns – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

what are the long term effects from chemical burns from hair highlighting? how long can it take a burn to heal completly? for first to second chemical burns what are normal treatments for those?

thank you

The mechanism of healing in chemical burns usually follows the healing of heat burn wounds. A first degree burn, which only has some redness and sensitivity of skin, is expected to recover within hours. A second degree burn generally involves deeper layers of skin and may include blisters. You need to visit a physician for a second degree burn, especially if a large area of skin is involved. Healing may take days to months depending on size of the burn.

Minimizing Damage Caused From Bleach Burning Scalp – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

what do you recommend if your scalp gets burned from a hair bleaching??

I cant FIND ANYHING ABOUT WHAT TO DO! There must be some way of minimizing the damage afterwards….

Cool it off? Apply something?? Anything??

regards

If your scalp is burned AND your hair is impacted by the burn AND there are changes in the hair character (thinner, finer hair) that last more than 6 months, you may have permanent changes. Generally, temporary problems resolve in 6-8 months. I have no suggestion as to what you might do if the hair is damaged below the skin. Hopefully, it is not a diffuse damage and it is possible that if there are localized areas where the problem is greatest (and the back and sides are in good shape), a hair transplant into the problem areas may have value provided that they are not extensive. You need to be examined by an expert.

Low Light Laser Hair Therapy – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I wanted to ask you about low light laser hair therapy. I know you have a few postings on your blog, and also went into some detail on your NHI website, but I wanted to follow up and see if you have any new or updated information regarding this form of treatment. I know you mentioned that you used low light laser hair therapy on your patients, but you werent sure if the benefits were due to propecia or the laser treatment. Any new updates? Thanks for the help!

You are correct in your statements. Unfortunately, there are no new updates. Laser light therapy for hair is semi-controversial and there are clinical studies that are attempting to prove its effectiveness. However, to date, I have not seen a good scientific and unbiased test result to prove if it works.

At NHI, we have two laser light machines which I offer to my patients (who have had surgery) at no additional cost to our patients (in other words, the treatments are free if the patient wants them). I often ask people if it seems to be working for them and I have gotten some positive comments (which are, of course, totally subjective).

Organin and Toppik Side Effects? – Balding Blog

I have been using Toppik and Organin for over 1 year now. I am wondering is there any long term side effects?

thanks

Looking at the ingredients of these products, they all seem inert and should not cause any adverse effects. Contact allergy could be one of the side effects of almost every topical chemical agent, but since you have been using these products for a year with no reaction, it is unlikely that you’d show any allergic reactions to them in the future.

I’m Stressed, But I Think Protein Shakes Are Beneficial to My Hair – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi,

2006 was a stressful year. I had a lot on my mind and my sleep was disrupted quite a lot. At the same time, I started going to the gym regularly and drinking protein shakes. Towards the latter part of the year I’ve noticed my hair has been thinning more than usual and is now brittle too. I’m a 26 year old male. The ingredients of the powder seem to be beneficial to the hair.

My theories:

  1. I’m not taking on enough protein/carbs to rebuild muscle as well as keep my hair healthy.
  2. The opposite: the powder is affecting my hair even though the amino acids etc in it seem good for hair.
  3. Not enough rest/sleep.
  4. None of the above.

If I stop taking on this powder but theory 1 is correct then things will get worse. Is there anyone in the world who can give me a definitive answer? Any advice?

Many thanks

A positive nitrogen balance (achieved with good nutrition) should not impact hair loss, unless you were malnourished in the first place. The high protein intake (from protein shakes) will not help prevent or reverse hair loss.

You are stressed. The four major causes of hair loss in men are:

  1. Genes: If you have genetic balding, it should show by mapping out your scalp for miniaturization.
  2. Hormones: If your testicles are working, you will have the hormones.
  3. Stress: Sounds like you have more than your share of stress. Working out will reduce the stress for many men.
  4. Time: The longer the exposure of hormones and stress to the genetically impacted hair, the more the balding pattern will evolve.

These are the patterns that evolve from balding:

Any Physician Preference of Shampoo or Conditioner? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I have always been wondering if there is a preferred method by physicians on how we should wash our hair… shampoo only? Use seperate shampoos and conditioners? Use a 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner? How, if it all, would this change if you have dandruff? Thank you and regards.

ShampooThere is no particular shampoo that I recommend. Everybody is different and has individual preferences. I do not believe one is better than the other. As long as it works for you that should be all that matters. Shampoos or conditioners do not affect hair loss that is associated with male pattern (genetic) balding. You should try quite a few and settle in on the ones that achieve your goals best. I tend to focus upon the suds and the smell that I like.

Galvanic Spa for Hair Health? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Have you heard of the Galvanic Spa for hair?

One of the sources that I located said: “갈바닉 스파 브로셔 pdf파일변환”. It did not make much sense to me (a small language problem, but I am sure that some of my readers understand the message). One English source showed a picture of it that looks like a cattle electric shocker (see here). It delivers an electric current to the area it is applied to. Also look at Nuskin.com for more.

There are doctors who use electricity to stimulate many things. We know, for example, that an electric current put between two ends of a broken bone will prevent ‘failure to heal’ complications and may accelerate bone growth. There is also some experimentation on diabetic mice that show electrical stimulation may enhance hair growth on the backs of these mice. So it is not way out of line to think that some type of electrical stimulation might have value, but human experimentation with ‘odds’ that are not favorable on such speculation (what is the duration of the electrical application, how is it going to be applied, how frequently, voltage and amperage?), does not make good sense for your use at this time. I can not endorse this product.
