Possible to Shampoo Too Much? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi,

Is it ok to shampoo my hair twice a day. I shampoo my hair when I wake up and then again after I work out. I have read on some sites that using shampoo too much can contribute to baldness. Is this true?

Thanks

Frequent (twice daily) shampooing will not cause hair loss or promote it, providing that you are not very aggressive at pulling on the hair.

My Dermatologist Prescribed Olux Foam for Hair Loss Prevention – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

My dermatologist recently prescribed me olux foam to apply to my scalp to help prevent mpb, not really sure what it does or why he prescribed it, any ideas? thank you in advance

Olux Foam is a topical corticosteroid. As such, it has no value for the prevention of male patterned genetic hair loss. The chronic use of any steroid is bad for you. It does get absorbed by the body and if you take it over prolonged periods of time it might suppress adrenal function. Steroids are known to cause hair loss, although the dose of skin application may not be enough for that complication. This drug is used mostly for psoriasis. Are you sure that this is not what your doctor is treating?

Herbal Hair Shampoo – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi there, I am a 30yr old male and am interested to hear your thoughts on a product called ‘Herbal Hair Shampoo’ (http://www.herbalhairshampoo.com) which was rated top product on website http://golden-reviews.com/hair.html. Your comments are appreciated.
Cheers

The claims made by the company are far too extensive to be believed. The shampoo may be good, but I would doubt that it will grow any hair.

Ibuprofen Gel for Thinning Hair – Balding Blog

Use of Anti-inflammatory on scalp ? What is your view of applying small amounts of Ibuprofen gel to thinning hair. I have read that one component of hair loss is due to an inflammation reaction within the hair follicle. Would this help reduce that effect?

There is no evidence that either topical or systemic anti-inflammatory medications prevent hair loss. If anti-inflammatory medications could stop hair loss, the people with rheumatoid diseases who have taken high doses of these medications for a long time should have had immeasurable hair on their head, yet they bald at the same rate as those who do not take anti-inflammatory medications.

Olive Oil, Honey, and Cinnamon Cures Hair Loss?! – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

According to Pakistan’s Daily Times, a hair loss treatment of honey, oil, and cinnamon is effective.

The referenced article made me smile. I suspect the readers will also smile. Although the article talks only briefly about hair loss, the exact wording is as follows:

Hair loss: Those suffering from hair loss or baldness, may apply a paste of hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder before a bath and keep it for approximately 15 minutes, and then wash the hair. It was found very effective if kept for 5 minutes.

In Southeast Asia, cow dung is an inexpensive alternative. Not western style, right? Go ahead and try this concoction out, but be sure to stay away from bees.

How Often Should I Be Washing My Hair? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Dear Dr. Rassman,

I just would like to know if it is better to wash my hair every day or not so much – e.g. twice a week. Skin on my head seems to produce lot of sebum (hope it is the right word), so I think it is better to wash it more often but I read some articles stating it is quite unhealthy.

So I would like to know your skilled opinion.

Regards

When your scalp makes a great deal of sebum, the oily feel and appearance of the scalp can be managed with daily hair washes using a shampoo made for oily hair. I wash my hair daily.

Hair Loss After Coloring, But I’ve Colored It Before Without Problem – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I dyed my hair and it came out in clumps. I’ve colored it before and never had a problem. I’m only 20 yrs old and female. Why would this happen?

Coloring hair is not one of the causes of hair loss, but skin irritation due to chemical agent sensitivity could speed up hair loss in some folks. Some people can also become allergic to dyes after repeated use. Get your hair mapped for miniaturization and that will tell more about the nature of your hair loss. A hair specialist can examine your hair and see whether you are vulnerable to female pattern baldness or find out if there is something else causing you to lose hair.

Hair Loss InformationNizoral Safety? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Recently, I have noticed white spots all over my back and my chest. I personally believe that I caught a fungus from the tanning bed.

The dermatologist gave me a prescription for Nizoral tablets. His recommendation is to take two tablets, then exercise to sweat a couple hours after ingestion. Then, repeat the process with two more tablets one week later.

My questions is—are Nizoral tablets safe? I have heard that they are very taxing on the liver and may cause side-effects, one of which could be hairloss??? Will it most likely be safe for me to take this round of 4 tablets? Thank you

If a medical doctor prescribed you the medication for a condition he has diagnosed, then you should ask these questions and concerns to that doctor. I cannot stress enough the importance of a good patient to doctor relationship. BaldingBlog is not intended to give second medical opinions or diagnose medical problems. This site is here to educate the public from our professional experiences. That being said, anti-fungal medications are used to treat fungal infections. They may be toxic to the liver if taken in large doses and/or if you are particularly sensitive to that medication or have underlying liver problems. You should also know that other medications, such as Tylenol, are also toxic to the liver if taken in large doses.
