Eucapil – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello Dr. Rassman.

What, in your opinion, would be the best medical option for treating/preventing hairloss?

I have stumbled across a product called Eucapil (fluridil) which claims to be a potent topical anti-androgen. Informaton about the drug can be found at http://www.eucapil.com/. It seems a product such as this one might be a great addition to an internal AR inhibitor. Can you please give it a look? Most importantly, are there any exisiting products or others in development that have a similar method of action?

Thanks very much.

Eucapil is stated to be a cosmetic and is available only in the Czech and Slovak countries. By stating that is a cosmetic, that means that no medical claim will have any value whatsoever. Products like these may do good things for the appearance of hair, but there is no suggestion or proof that it will grow hair or reverse hair loss. It is well known that herbal and natural supplements have wide variability in their manufactured ingredients and the owners of these product seem to push claims that may not be valid far too often. As I have stated many times on this site, it is a buyer beware market. That is my medical opinion. There are medical solutions available, which are finasteride 1mg (Propecia) taken orally, minoxidil (Rogaine) applied topically, or a hair transplant procedure — all of which require a medical examination by a qualified doctor.

Chemical Burn Caused Chunk Of Hair To Fall Out – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I burned my scalp from chemical dying of my hair. I had patches where it burned and scabbed pretty good. A few weeks ago, a chunk of my hair fell out with the the scab, and now there is a smooth surface where that hair was. What can I do? If feels like a crater on my head.

Chemicals may cause temporary hair loss and the chunk of hair that came off with the ’scab’ is what I would expect. You should allow your scalp to heal and the hair should start growing back within 6 months of the initial injury, hopefully earlier. Sometimes, the hair may not return. In any case, wait a few months to see if hair grows out of your scalp. If you prefer not to see a doctor now for the best advice, expect hair growth after 6-8 months and then see a good doctor if there is no return of the hair.

Livon for Dry Hair – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

i have been losing hair from either side of my forehead.now im using minoxidil 5%.i was using other oil and wash it was before using minoxidil.but i came to know that if we use other oil it wont allow minoxidil to penetrate into scalp.so i stopped using it.but now my hair has become dry and is difficult to comb.there is a hair fluid called livon which instantly smoothens and softens dry hair.it is usually used on towel-dried hair.so i wanted to know whether i can use it and if i use will it stop minoxidil to enter into scalp or should i use the hair fluid after applying minoxidil.please advise.

There is no way to be sure. I would think using minoxidil at least 30 minutes prior to using the softening product would be the best compromise.

Laser Comb and Transplants – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi there. I am a 25 year old UK doctor (straight black hair/olive skin). I first noticed hair loss about 4 years ago. It has progressed at a slow rate. I have not receeded at all but am a diffuse thinner – the main areas are at the front-top of my head (about 1.5 cms behind my adequately thick frontal hairline) and also at the crown.

My hair looks quite thin in these areas when wet (with very visible scalp) but if I blow dry my hair and wear it choppy/spiky/drawn towards the middle, it still looks good and my friends/family don’t think I look bald. I started propecia (with full compliance) 2 years ago with a good result – pretty much halted hair loss and possibly even grew back a little hair in the thinning areas.

However, over the last couple of months I have started to thin a bit further in these areas. I am considering buying a laser comb. (Not keen for topicals).

My questions to you are:
1. I know the laser comb currently has no FDA approval for hair loss but does have good(ish) reviews – do you think it is the most logical next step or should I go for minoxidil?

2. Transplants – (which I realise would be a bad decision at my current level of hair loss): It sounds like for a successful transplant I will have to endure a period of going almost entirely bald first in order to assess what needs filling in and to avoid just losing original hair around the transplants over the following years – is this true or can you transplant around thinning hair?

Thanks

From your writing, it appears to me that you are experiencing male genetic hair loss which has responded to Propecia. I am glad to hear that you have been compliant on Propecia for 2 years, but as you know, Propecia may not solve the problem completely. The science is out on the various laser treatments including the laser comb/brush. As for the minoxidil, you can try it, but I would not recommended stopping the Propecia.

In terms of the hair transplant, there is a delicate balance of timing here. People do not have to go bald to get hair transplants, but preventive hair transplants are not indicated unless the thinning has moved past a particular point (something that a good, honest doctor who specializes in this field should be able to tell you). Patience is a virtue, but failure to make a timely decision is a liability. Quite a balancing act! You need to have your scalp hair mapped out to find out how far back the miniaturization is going, so that you can develop a Master Plan before attempting any surgery.

Fuller Hair Volume – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I am aged 23 years old and i am a African American. My hair is long to some sort. It falls to my mid upperback. But i have one problem, its thin. I do not have full thickness and on each side is thin as well. I have never dyed it but have used perms. I may perm 3 times a year about every 4 months. I tried hair thickness oils and all the hair volume supplies u will find in a beauty supply store. What can I do to receive full volume and to cease the thinning on the sides.

The things you are doing may be damaging your hair and causing hairs to break off, making the bulk appear less full and giving the appearance of a finer, thinner hair shaft. The more you treat it and abuse it, the worse it will get. There are hair thickeners that will cause the hair shaft to absorb water, making it appear thicker. Check with your hair stylist for recommendations. This is not a doctor problem.

Laser Brush vs Other Laser Treatment – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Is the laser hair brush as effective as the laser treatment (sitting under the laser light) which is available?

Unfortunately, there is no information on either the value of the big sit-down laser units, the different type of sit down units or the laser brush/comb, let alone a comparison between the them. Sorry, but I can not help you here but hope that some objective studies will be presented to help us all out.

Angry Emails About Hair Products – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

it would seem to me, if it worked as good as you say on TV, all the news media, talk shows, and anyone reliable else, would be backing this product. An infomercial is paying the TV. If It was as good as you say, you wouldn’t have to pay to have is broadcast. Remember, just because you say it’s so, doesn’t make it so.

Where do I begin? I was able to determine that this email came from someone that found the BaldingBlog by looking for ScalpMed on a search engine and just assumed that I was the one responsible for promoting this product. This is sadly not the first email I’ve received like this. Some people just seem a little angry about the ScalpMed product. I’ve never seen the TV commercial and I’ve never claimed ScalpMed is good. In fact, I haven’t promoted myself or my company in almost 10 years and I’ve never promoted a hair loss product on TV, ever. Folks, just because you found this site by searching Google for something you saw on TV, it doesn’t mean I made the commercial promoting it or had anything to do with the company or the product. I understand there is anger over products out there claiming to do things that you have not experienced, but your anger is misplaced if it is directed towards me.

I do agree with the writer of the above email though — if a product is as miraculous as they each believe is more than hinted at being a wonderous cure or treatment for hair loss, you would see as much information EVERYWHERE as you surely did when Viagra was made available to the public. Stop to think of the Viagra marketing launch and try to apply that to any magic bullet pill advertised to treat hair loss. Viagra was everywhere, and a topic like sexual dysfunction is far more embarassing for many people to talk about than hair loss. So if a miracle pill for hair loss did exist, I would think you’d see it even MORE than Viagra. You’d be getting 50 spam emails a day (with multiple misspellings) talking about selling it at a discount. You’d see it on the cover of Newsweek. You’d certainly would see it in magazines and newspapers. Hair loss is a big deal to many people.

With nearly 50% of men losing their hair, the market for a wonder drug that claims to do it all for your hair is wide open. I do recommend Propecia, because I’ve seen it work and it is FDA approved. The same recommendation goes for minoxidil, although to a lesser extent — but again, it is approved. Propecia doesn’t work for everyone all the time, and minoxidil has its faults as well. As a physician, I have a hard time recommending any product that I am not convinced works. I have no experience with ScalpMed, but there does seem to be a very polarized group of emailers who do not take a positive view of their experience with this product. If you are included in this group, could you take a few minutes and write down your experience and let me know if you were happy or unhappy, and why? I will be happy to share rational people’s emails with the readers of this blog.

ScalpMed and Hair Growth Rate – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello Dr. William Rassman. I have heard that scalpmed supposedly thickens your hair but what I want to know is does it speed up the rate of hair growth as well? For example if my hair normally grows a half an inch in a month, could scalpmed make it grow an inch or more in a month?

Nope. The ScalpMed people are promoting their product very heavily and the claims that seem to be coming through internet chatter is unsubstantiated. There is nothing in that product that can make hair grow faster, because in fact, there is no drug anywhere that will make hair grow faster.

Hair Loss InformationNutrifolica – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi,
I am 22 and my hairline is slightly receding and Im really worried I will end up completely bald. As far as I know there is no history of baldness in my family and everyone in my family seems to have healthy heads of hair. I have been using rogaine for about 6 months and I had found tiny hairs growing back but have seen a product advertised called Nutrifolica – the web site says its great but I cannot seem to find many user reviews. Have you any idea if this product will actually work? Should I stop using rogaine? I have heard some bad things about rogaine and don’t want it backfiring on me! If I do use Nutrifolica instead of rogaine do you think these tiny hairs will fall out? I really want my hairline back to the way it used to be and want some help.

Block Quote

The claims for Nutrifolica state: “While DHT is the primary cause of hair loss several other factors contribute to hair loss such as: poor circulation of the scalp, clogged hair follicles, excessive sebaceous oil and nutrient deficient hair follicles. Nutrifolica is designed to counteract these hair loss causes with 100% pure herbal extracts that have no side effects.

These claims have no ounce of credibility to them because poor circulation, clogged hair follicles, and excessive sebaceous oils do not cause hair loss. I sound like a broken record — if you are male and want to know what is wrong with you, get a doctor to diagnose it by mapping out your scalp for miniaturization and if you are female, have a doctor do the proper testing for medical diseases that cause hair loss.

We all want to go back to where our hairline used to be!
