Hair Loss InformationIf I Stop Using the Laser Comb, Will I Lose Any Hair? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi there doctor. I’ve had two transplants now, and after my second one I believe I may have been duped in that my doctor heavily recommended me using a laser comb. I’ve used it for almost two years without seeing any positive results at all (if only I had found this site sooner.) My question is if I stop using it, will I lose any of my current hair? Is it actually helpful in stabilizing one’s current hairline? Thanks for your time.

Since I personally do not believe the Laser Comb works for treating hair loss, I would not think there would be any positives or negatives associated with stopping its use… aside from the extra time you save everyday to do other things.

Hair Loss InformationHair Growth Results from LLLT on The Drs TV Show (with Video) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dr Rassman
I see that they are growing hair from laser. Is this laser different than what you have used in the past? These results are from the The Drs show in tv.I f you look at the women in the audience she had great results.

I’ve embedded the video here:

The results in the video look good, but they are not my experience. I had the identical low level light laser (Revage) about 5 years ago in my office. It was given to me free of charge in hopes that I would endorse the product. To find out if it worked, I offered laser treatments to all of my patients for free for up to a year. Not too many people came in to try it, but of those who did, I have before and after pictures taken.

The doctor in the video above says it could be up to $5000 per year for these laser treatments (and trips to the office a few times a week), but if you’re seeing results and have no other options, I suppose that could be worth the trouble. But if you end up seeing no or very minor results, that wouldn’t be surprising to me. During my yearlong try out on patients, I was not impressed that the patients experienced any impact on their hair, except from the hair transplants they got from me.

My Hair Loss Started When I Began Using New Shampoo – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

hi doctor,
I am a serious victim of hair loss and I am really worried. I am only the age of 19. My hair started to fall since the time I started using the head and shoulder shampoo about a month ago. After I realise that my hair fall was because of the shampoo so I stopped using it 15 days ago. In this 15 days my hairs have fallen like a waterfall from my head. In my family only my grandfather is bald. Before using the shampoo my hair was quite thick. After avoiding using the shampoo my hair still falls. When the water is poured in my head I could really see my hairlines. I am really worried. Please help me. Will my hair grow once again?

A few things that stand out to me:

  • You’re at the age where it wouldn’t be unusual to see the genetic hair loss process start
  • You have a family history of hair loss
  • You’ve diagnosed your problem as being caused by shampoo

Shampoo isn’t going to cause hair loss unless perhaps you have an allergy to an ingredient. There’s a thread on this site about Head and Shoulders shampoo with hundreds of comments from people, but I really wouldn’t expect this commonly used shampoo to cause the hair loss you’re seeing. See a dermatologist for an examination.

How Can I Make My Hair Stay Dryer? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dear Dr Rassman,

I am 19, Asian, and am balding in a diffuse pattern, mostly in the crown. I’ve been taking Propecia for around 3 months, with little noticeable slowing of hair loss – but I realize that results take time.

My issue is this – I have INCREDIBLY sparsely-packed hair, although the shafts themselves are of normal thickness. Even when I wasn’t balding, my hair, when wet and clumped together, gave the appearance of baldness.

For some reason, my hair gets ‘oily’ and ‘wet’ really easily – dry, my hair looks quite good, but once oily and wet (and since I live in a humid in a climate) my hair looks quite bad. Is there any way to prevent my hair from absorbing so much moisture and to keep dry?

Thanks.

You could experiment with different shampoos that are made for oily hair. And maybe use a blow dryer (with a wide-toothed brush) on the warm setting long enough to dry your hair.

Could 20 Laser Treatments Cause Complete Regrowth? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

What’s your take on this woman that had 1 laser treatment each week for 5 months and got all of her hair back? It’s very remarkable!!

I don’t believe it for a moment. I suspect that this lady had chemotherapy and lost her hair, then after a time, it grew back. I also suspect that doctor (?) or clinic involved in the process took the credit for what would have happened anyway.

Could Hair Gel Damage My Hair or Accelerate Hair Loss? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Can gel lead to hairloss. Years ago I used gel at morning after having a bath but I didn’t wash the gel at night in other words I slept with gel on my head. After months I noticed my hair is always thin and brittle not as it used to be . So what I am asking could gel lead to damaged follicles or can it accelerates hairless or what else can it do to follicles .thanks

Hair products and gels do not cause or accelerate hair loss. If your hair is thin and brittle, try a different hair styling product. Certain products might damage hair, but I don’t know what you’re using. Most name brand styling gels aren’t going to be an issue, and they certainly won’t cause you to have male pattern hair loss.

Self-Tanning Lotion on the Scalp? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi and thanks for all the information you provide in this helpful blog. My question is: “Is it safe to use self tanning lotion to the scalp? I had this idea to tan the scalp to hide the hair missing. It would be like a home-made micropigmentation. What do you think?” Thank you!

Block Quote

I guess this could be something to try, though I’m not sure the “fake bake” self-tanning lotion would look like hair or even your hair color. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be safe, but just be sure to read the application instructions that come with whatever lotion you try. You just don’t want to end up looking like your head is sunburned.

There are lotions (Couvre) that reduce contrast between scalp and hair, and something like that might work better for what you want to do.

Bioscal – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello Dr Rassman,

I read hair loss blogs and research products on a fairly regular basis. Today I stumbled across a product called Bioscal. Taking a look on the website it seems to have been through numerous clinical trails and the results they claim looked somewhat promising. Here is the link to the website where I have read the information – Bioscal.com.

My question is have you ever heard of this product and what would your comments be over the clinical trail results summarized.

Thanks

This is another product line that I have no experience with, but am skeptical nevertheless. It appears to be just a set of shampoos and conditioners, but if you think it might be helpful, give it a shot. I doubt you’ll see much benefit as far as hair growth, though.

Their site says it is the “most effective and best documented topical hair loss treatment worldwide” — but I’d expect if this was really the case, it would be more well known and talked about within the industry. It isn’t.

Also, I don’t see where any of their clinical trials were published in peer-reviewed journals… so I don’t know what their trials actually contained. It sounds impressive to say “most effective” and mention studies that were done, but without proof, they’re just claims made on the internet.

Using Minoxidil and a Concealer – Balding Blog

im using minoxidil 5% but i want to also use prothik concealer, can i use both at the same time and does prothik clog the pores and cause further hair loss. thanks

Be sure to apply minoxidil right after a good shampoo and wait at least 15 minutes before using the concealer products. Clearly, you should apply the minoxidil to the scalp, not on top of the concealer.

ProThik (or any other similar products like Couvre, DermMatch, and Toppik) doesn’t cause hair loss.
