Should I Discontinue Using An Herbal Product On My Hair After Transplantation? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello Dr. I had a hair transplant in first week of december 06. Its about 3 months now and haven’t seen any growth. This is my second procedure (2200 grafts). My first one gave moderate results (1500 grafts).

I gave up on rogaine as it did more harm than good and I am currently using a herbal product to keep my preexisting hair and it works well.

Should I be concerned about using it on a transplanted area? I started using this after all my scabs were gone(15 days after surgery). I hope this would not interefere with growth of transplanted hair as I see only beneficial results out of it. My doc said it cannot possibly cause any harm as the transplanted hair bears the same identity as the ones in the back of my head.

Your response will be highly appreciated and thanks for your time.

I do not know what is in the herbal substance you are using, but I would generally agree with your doctor that it will not probably make a difference. It is my belief that most herbals do not impact hair growth. At 3 months, most people are just entering into the growth phase which will become evident over the 4-5th month. Aldactone and Shock Loss in Women – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello. I am a 30 year old female and have been suffering from hair loss since my early teens. I FINALLY found a compassionate dermatologist who did a scalp biopsy and I was diagnosed with female patterned baldness. I have had a consultation at (name with-held) and I am concerned with Shock Loss. I am currently on Aldactone (prescribed by my dermatologist) and would like to know if this helps prevent shock loss as Propecia does and also what are the chances of shock loss in women.

We don’t know the answer to that, because the medication has never been studied for this purpose, to my knowledge. Hair transplants in women with female genetic hair loss have limited application if the hair around the sides and back of the head is diffusely involved in the process of miniaturization. Be sure that the goals are well defined and that the donor hair that is being used is healthy for if it is not, there may not be value in the surgery.

I Want Amazing Transplant Results in One Session – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Is it possible for me to receive a hair transplantation of approximately 3,300 follicles in only one session and finally getting the amazing result like patient LG in the photo section (hair line) of NHI website ? I am a class 4A Norwood.

Patient LGAn amazing result in one session is doable in some patients. There are many factors that lead to such results, including the hair texture and thickness of the hair shaft. Remember that “supply and demand” is important and your scalp must be flexible enough to handle these higher graft numbers. If your scalp has good laxity and you have a good hair density, you are a good candidate to get high numbers, which is needed to cover a large area. Hair characters including diameter, color, and waviness also play an important role in the final results. The best way to predict this is by visiting a hair doctor. If you’re in California, I’d suggest making an appointment with us and to come to an Open House event where you can see the results of such surgeries on many people and get a thorough evaluation.

The “Baby” Hairs – 5 Months After Hair Transplant (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Take a look at the very early growth in the first photo below, which reflects the first wave of growth following a hair transplant procedure of 2730 grafts. The new short hairs are easily covered by the hair from behind. When combed forward, the new hair blends with the old hair nicely. I’ve also included the before photo and a photo from 2 weeks after his procedure, just to be complete and so that you can get the full scope of what was done. Some of the short newly transplanted hairs have already fallen out and others that appear to be pointing the wrong way are actually about to fall out. Click the photos to enlarge.

For an example of a past patient with similar results (but further along), please see radio host Steve Hartman‘s results. I’ve posted 3 photos of Steve below — the first photo is before the procedure, the middle photo is at the 5 month mark after his procedure, and the photo on the right is at around 14 months post procedure. I apologize that the angles are slightly different, but they illustrate the point that the above patient still is in the early stage and has a lot to look forward to. Click the photos to enlarge.

Extreme Makeover Patient Heather Update (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

This is the end result after hair transplants on Heather, our only female patient from the Extreme Makeover television show. She is thrilled with the results and tells us that it has changed her life. It took two procedures (totaling 2832 grafts) to get her where she is today because her donor hair was so poor, but with her persistence, she made it all work out. Click the photos below to enlarge.

Propecia Stopped Working, So I Added Rogaine – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I have been on Propecia for 2 1/2 years but about 6 months ago I noticed that the Propecia was no longer doing its job so I started on Rogaine as well and have been using that for 6 months along with the Propecia. The crown of my head has not gotten worse however the thinning area has spreaded throughout the scalp and I fear it is only getting worse. What do you recommend I do?

There is no cure for androgenic (male pattern) hair loss. Drugs such as Propecia slow it down and at best sometimes grows some hair. Just because you notice more hair falling out does not necessarily mean Propecia has stopped working. Instead it is not able to keep up with your ultimate fate. Adding Rogaine may be of benefit, but again there is no cure or 100% stop to the hair loss. Even surgery (hair transplant) cannot cure balding. At best, it redistributes the hair so that you can maintain a look for maximum cosmetic benefit.

If you are noticing a rapid rate of hair loss, you can consider seeing a doctor for a miniaturization study to document the rate of hair loss and review any medical or surgical option for a complete master plan.

What Does a Hair Transplant Donor Scar Look Like? (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

How the donor area exactly look after HT ? I have no idea…does it look very ugly and scary ? My doc is not exploring it completely….plz help me sir.

If your doctor does not answer this question for you by showing you patients so that you can examine the donor scar yourself, then go to another doctor who will do this for you. You should be frightened if you are not getting good answers.

Take a look at the two sets of photos below. These patients (who both had Follicular Unit Transplantation) consecutively came into the office for a routine follow-up visit. All scars were easily covered by the combed hair and to see the scar, a comb had to lift up the hair. Click the photos to see full-size.

Slit Marks and Mild Pitting in Part of My Hairline After Hair Transplant – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

i underwent a couple of strip transplants and i got slit marks and mild pitting in some sections of the recipient area including part of the hairline. a surgeon told me about microdermabrasion or dermabrasion (laser or mechanical), the pitting on my head is not so severe and i don’t think that a FUE extraction of my pitted monofollicular is the logical thingh to do. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

thanks.

Get a second opinion? I cannot help you without seeing the results and examining you in person. Mild pitting can be an unfortunate consequence of such surgery, especially if the grafts sites are too big or too much skin was transplanted with the hair grafts. I have heard other doctors describing microdermabrasion/dermabrasion to correct such problem, but these techniques may remove pigment from the skin that is worked on. This means that you may end up with a shine on the skin and some skin discoloration, which may look even worse.

Losing Concentration/Focus with Taking Propecia – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dr. Rassman

Have you had a hair transplant procedure done on yourself? If so have you ever tried or are you currently using propecia? I have been on propecia for about 2 months now and I find that my concentration/focus is severely lacking. I am currently going to grad school so you can see why this is a big problem. Whats your thoughts on the matter?

Thank You

I have had two hair transplants on my crown and I take Propecia daily. I have not had problems like you are describing. Are you stressed? Try stopping the Propecia for a week and see if the concentration problem resolves. I would doubt that it would have this side effect, but there are many men who talk themselves into problems from the use of Propecia, a placebo type of effect.
