Hair Loss InformationIn the News – How to Wash Your Hair in Space! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

Dr. Karen Nyberg is a flight engineer on the International Space Station—and she happens to have long hair. So how does she wash her hair in space? It turns out to be an easy process, though a visually striking one. Due to the lack of gravity, her hair sticks straight up, so she ends up washing up rather than our Earthbound, gravity-centric “water flows down” thinking.

Hair Loss InformationI Want to Grow Chest Hair! – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

i am 26 year old male and i dont have chest hair or a full beard. i want to grow hair on my chest. what should i do? do i have testosterone problem? i think i have because i am gay

Block Quote

Chest hairMany men do not have the genes for chest hair or if they do, these genes do not express themselves until these men turn 30-40 years old. Minoxidil (Rogaine) applied twice a day may bring on chest hair, but be careful that if you go this route that you do not get dizzy from low blood pressure, a side effect of high doses of Rogaine.

We have transplanted chest hair on some men who did not have the patience to wait until they age to see if their chest hair grew, but this not a very common procedure that we do.

Your sexual orientation is unrelated to your testosterone or ability to grow chest hair.

Any LaserCap Trial Update Yet? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi Dr Rassman,

Do you have a 3-month update of the LaserCap trial that your team is conducting? Link: NHI LaserCap trial

Myself and I’m sure many of your readers would like to know if there has been any change in any of the patients so far. If you could post pictures of the before/after states for the 10 participants, perhaps it would put us a step closer to deciding on the effectiveness of laser treatments!

Kindest regards

Actors That Embrace Their Hair Loss – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Terrence StampDoctors….

Love your site…..have asked a couple of questions over the years, which you have graciously answered.

Not asking a question, per se, just your take on Terence Stamp. I just love the fact that he’s pushing 75 and he’s well embraced his hair (and lack thereof). The pic I attached was from the Limey (1999) and you can clearly see he is who he is.

Other actors that seem to embrace their look are Bruce Willis, John Malkovich (who grows his hair out on a whim) and Bill Murray (who has the forelock that will never die) to name but a few.

Personally, I’m 43, have been on Propecia and Rogaine for years and have been doing well with them……but nothing is permanent in this life…..and so, I look to others in the limelight for perhaps a bit of inspiration.

Thank you again for all the good work you do….

Many actors who have hair loss become character actors, embracing their balding or bald look and incorporating it into their persona. Other actors that have embraced the look include Jason Statham, Ed Harris, Woody Harrelson, and Patrick Stewart.

Thanks for the comments!

In the News – Chemotherapy Hair Loss Transformed Into Diamonds – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

People have been turning human and pet remains, including hair, into diamonds for 11 years now, but one new company aims to appeal to the living who have lost their hair in the fight against cancer.

The company is called SKY and LIVI, and allows women who’re undergoing radiation to turn their fallen hair into a lab-grown diamond, which is then set into a pendant necklace. Finished pieces, available in five different styles in 18k white and yellow gold (though custom designs are available), serve as “symbols of her endurance to beat this dreaded disease,” according to company founder and CEO—and industry veteran—Anjanette Sinesio.

Not Hair Loss News – New Bioadhesive Coating Could Bring Ability for Insulin Pills – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

In a new study, a “bioadhesive” coating developed at Brown University significantly improved the intestinal absorption into the bloodstream of nanoparticles that someday could carry protein drugs such as insulin. Such a step is necessary for drugs taken by mouth, rather than injected directly into the blood.

For protein-based drugs such as insulin to be taken orally rather than injected, bioengineers need to find a way to shuttle them safely through the stomach to the small intestine where they can be absorbed and distributed by the bloodstream. Progress has been slow, but in a new study, researchers report an important technological advance: They show that a “bioadhesive” coating significantly increased the intestinal uptake of polymer nanoparticles in rats and that the nanoparticles were delivered to tissues around the body in a way that could potentially be controlled.

This is exciting research, and although it is obviously not hair loss related, I wanted to share this with our readers. The article points out that progress has been slow and they’re just testing in lab rats at this stage, but perhaps in the future this advancement will lead to new methods of treating type 1 and 2 diabetes, such as an oral pill instead of needle injections.

Hair Loss InformationNot Hair Loss News – Heart Failure and Cancer Risk – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

People with heart failure are also more likely to be diagnosed with cancer, according to a new study that followed older adults with and without heart problems.

The findings don’t prove that heart failure, when the heart can’t pump enough blood to the rest of the body, causes cancer. Researchers said more studies are needed to determine what might explain the link.

“People have not really considered any association of heart failure and cancer together, at least not developing cancer after diagnosis,” said Dr. Adrian Hernandez, a cardiologist at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina.
