What Dictates How Body Hair Grows? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hello, ive been searching around for an answer or explanation about body hair and what drives it to grow with no luck, i stumbled upon this site and thought it would be good to ask.

Im a male currently 21, and ive noticed a gradual increase in body hair, the growth is dark, coarse, and fairly thick. i’ve talked to my local doctor about this and done some tests still waiting for results, but he assured me this is “normal” however i beg to differ, the hair is really an annoyance and making social interactions abit awkward.

so my question is, how does body hair grow? and what hormones dictate the length and type (vellus / terminal) of hair? ive read that DHT might have a contribution but im not entirely sure. i do know however that my Test levels are on the lower side of the scale, which makes me think that my body is converting too much to DHT.

kind regards.

In general, DHT is responsible for some of the secondary male characteristics, such as body hair. DHT plus your genetic predisposition may cause changes in your body hair. Likewise, DHT plus your genetic predisposition can also affect male pattern hair loss. The key is genetics.

As men mature from their puberty years into their early twenties, many changes in their bodies occur. In men who are in their 60’s and older, they also develop ear hair and nose hair and some of them can lose body hair in their senior years.

I Have Blonde Hair and I’ve Noticed Black, Dense, Curly Hairs Growing Randomly – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I am late 20’s have begun to get thin in my front hairline and where my natural hair swirl is on my vertex and I’ve accepted that’s just within my family. But I am trying to keep track of how much is changing and I have noticed that ( I have dirty blonde hair) I am getting hairs turning almost black growing in random spots. Just single hairs and sometimes in groups of 3, one will be this black curly one. And those hairs have a seemingly denser feeling and posses a curl to them that does not compare to the rest of my natural hair texture. Any ideas what this is and what’s causing it?

Block Quote

If you have dirty blond hair, then dark colored hair is likely the norm. Some people just have random hairs that grow with different characteristics. It just may be the norm. Otherwise, I have seen some patients go through hair color change in their 20’s and 30’s as they go from lighter to darker or vice versa.

I do not think it has any relationship with respect to hair loss.

Hair Loss InformationNot Hair Loss News – Walnuts Appear to Improve Semen Quality – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the article:

Healthy young men with a Western-style diet may be able to boost their sperm quality by eating a small packet of walnuts a day.

These are the findings of a new study that shows healthy American men in their 20s and 30s who ate a 75g (2.5 ozs) packet of walnuts a day were able to increase the vitality, motility and structure of their sperm compared to counterparts who did not eat walnuts.

A report on the study appeared online on 15 August in the Biology of Reproduction journal’s papers-in-press section.

Infertility and subfertility is a common problem that affects about 70 million couples worldwide. Between a third and a half of cases are due to poor semen quality in the male partner, with scientists giving a number of reasons for this in industrialized societies: pollution, unhealthy lifestyles and the Western-style diet cited amongst them.

Hair Loss InformationA Reader Gives Thanks to the Doctors of BaldingBlog – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Dear Doctor,

I moved from Quebec to Vancouver (Canada) and I am waiting to get my health insurance here. In the mean time, no dermatologist accepted to see me.

Of all the Internet, which is a pretty big place, you have been the greatest thing. Not only for your knowledge, but also because of the way you speak, because it feels like you actually care. I’ve seen very few doctors like this in my life.

I don’t know if you are a real doctor or not, I don’t know what you have to gain from this, but thank you. The comfort I found in your blog combined with the quality of information was a great source of relief. I believe I am not the only one who feels this way.

Thank you

Not Hair Loss News – Egg Yolks Can Be Dangerous to Your Health? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Snippet from the non-hair-loss article:

Researchers who have long argued that egg-yolk consumption contributes to cardiovascular disease have now published a study showing that lifelong consumption of egg yolks is correlated to development of carotid artery plaques and therefore should be avoided by anyone at risk for cardiovascular disease.

Dr J David Spence (Robarts Research Institute, London, ON) publish the results of a study of 1262 consecutive patients attending vascular prevention clinics in Canada online August 1, 2012 in Atherosclerosis. All of the subjects had baseline measurement of total carotid plaque area by ultrasound and filled out questionnaires about their diet and lifestyle, including medications they take, smoking, and the number of egg yolks they’ve eaten per week times the number of years they’ve kept that dietary pattern (egg-yolk years).

The results show that carotid plaque area increased linearly with age after age 40 and increased exponentially with both pack-years of smoking and egg-yolk years.

The article goes on to point out that the egg industry says the study was poorly done by a longtime critic of the industry, and they cite a small study that disputes the findings. So while this could potentially be important health news, I guess it depends on who you believe.

Still, this might be something to keep this in mind what you eat eggs. I personally only like the eggs if there is a yolk in it, so I guess that stops another bit of goodness from my healthy diet.
