Snippet from the press release:

According to a new online survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), 59.8 percent of people who were asked whether they would rather have more hair, more money or more friends chose more hair. By comparison, only 26.2 percent of respondents chose more money and 13.9 percent said they would rather have more friends. Mystery Hairline Bumps? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

I have small bumps near the hairline of my scalp that dont itch. There aren’t many bumps (about 5 or 6) and they are concentrated near the the side hairline (by my ear). These bumps eventually shrink and turn into a scab. If I get the scab out of my hair I notice there is a hair in the center of the scab. Also, I notice when my hair falls out sometimes I there is a little ball like thing attached to the end where the root is. Sometimes there is a small white see through flake of skin with hair in the middlel as well. I lose a lot of hair and have been using hair for about 9 months. I have been seeing a dermatologist for the past 6 months at least once a month and he has prescribed different medicines but I feel like he hasnt even examined my scalp. I had blood tests run and everything came back fine. I have also had one cortizone shot to the hip (which he said would reduce inflamation) but it just made me feel sick. He also prescribed a topical ointment for psoriasis that I have to wear for at least 4 hours a day with a shower cap on but it doesnt seem to help. I have seen pictures of patients with psoriasis and it looks nothing like my scalp. Could you please help me?

Unfortunately, this is something that I can not help you without seeing you. If your dermatologist can’t figure it out, perhaps you should seek out another dermatologist.

Does Dr Farjo Perform Miniaturization Mapping? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

dear dr farjo,
i live in the UK and have consulted a few transplant drs up to this point- but neither of them could give me a conclusive answer as to whether the hairloss i have experienced is the development of a mature hairline or early stage MPB. (I have minor recession at the corners of my hairline, and am 24 yr old male)

I would be interested to know how you would assess this and do you perform the miniaturization study like dr rassman? as the drs i have consulted so far did not.

thank you

Well, I start by asking you about your own hair loss history and its progression. I then obtain a thorough family history to assess the likelihood of progressive hair loss. Unfortunately the younger you are the harder it is to be accurate. An examination of your entire scalp follows to see if you are losing it in a genetic pattern. I may even suggest a genetic test to help predict your future loss but that is not definitive either.

I can certainly assess your miniaturisation like Dr Rassman. One of the other video microscopes I have is also capable of measuring hair calibre and has the software to compile such data.

A genetic test to assess responsiveness to finasteride is in development and I will be able to provide that when ready.

Hair is Growing in Different Directions on Each Side of My Head – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

hello,
on one side of my head the hair grows normally downwards to form a sideburn but on the other side my hair grows sidewards towards the back of my head. This starts from my facial area and continues in a sidewards movement to an inch above my ear. have you come across such an odd pattern before and is there anything i can do about it? I have put a link up to Hairfinder where i posted a message and a sketch about my problem. http://www.hairfinder.com/hair2/follicledirection.htm

Thanks

Everybody is different. Yes I have come across men and women with hairs growing in different directions, though the facial hair growth is generally found in my male patients. It is genetic, so thank your mom or dad for passing that on to you. There’s really nothing you can do except try conditioning your hair (even facial hair).

Can I Buy the HairDX Tests? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Dr.Rassman,
I read about the Hair Dx test for finasteride response on your blog. Have you done this test on any of your patients ?. What are the results ?. Is the Hair Dx test kit available for online purchase?

Hair DXI have just requested the HairDX tests get shipped to me last week and expect to have them in hand shortly. I have not had the opportunity to use any of the HairDX tests yet, so I don’t have my own results at this time.

To my knowledge, these are not available over the Internet for sale and must be obtained from a doctor registered with the company.

Hair Loss InformationEXT From Hair Club – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I currently use the EXT product line from hair club. Are there any other products comparable to EXT?

Block Quote

You should dissect each element of their EXT approach:

  • Cleansers on the scalp do not do much
  • Lasers, in my opinion do not work
  • Lotions that contain minoxidil work just like minoxidil without the packaging
  • Scalp massage feels good but doesn’t grow hair
  • Finasteride works well
  • Vitamins have limited value in a person who is not vitamin deficient
  • Miniaturization studies tell you where your hair is going and how fast
  • Hair transplants work very well with the right Master Plan

I do not offer many of these elements because they may not work, take too much time, and will raise the costs for most people.

Hair Loss InformationSinger Tom Jones and His Natural Hair Color – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Hi Dr Rassman
Big fan of your Blog. It has informed and guided my HT decisions in the past several years with excellent results. Now my question.

Tom Jones – he has stopped dyeing his hair and now is grey/white. His hair looks better than ever, I know white hair reflects light giving a fuller appearance to the hair but his hair looks so good now, he has definitely had further procedures. I assume FUT or FUE. He has already had quite a lot of work done, but this latest procedure has delivered fantastic results. Do you know what he has had done? Whatever is was it has delivered a very good result.

Kind Regards

Tom Jones

I guess this was big news in the UK, because I found quite a few articles about the singer’s decision to go natural —

At 68 years old, Tom Jones does look good (or perhaps I should say “grey’t”). I don’t know his hair transplant history, but if he had some work done, I was not his surgeon. You are correct in that white hair is often fuller looking, but I’m not sure what else I can add to this discussion. His hair looked pretty full even with the dye, but that could also be because of the wiry characteristics.

Snippet from the post:

British bad boy Jude Law may have aged a bit faster after his affair with his child’s nanny ended his engagement to starlet Sienna Miller. Since they broke up in the end of 2006, Law, pictured at left on Sept. 16, seems to have lost something else besides his fiancee — his hair. The actor’s widow’s peak appears to be creeping farther up by the day.

Ouch. Jude Law didn’t get off too easy here. I guess this “report” is at least 6 months old, but I don’t think I’ve seen it or posted about it previously. ABC News took a look at the “hunks” of Hollywood that are losing their hair, so if you want to see your favorite actor looking a little thin up top, click here to start the gallery.
