Hair Loss InformationScalp Massage After Hair Transplant – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

i am a male who had approx. 1800 grafts 4 months ago. i have yet to see growth of any kind. about 2 weeks after i had the procedure done, my girlfriend gave me a scalp massage. none of the grafts were lost as a result, but could damage have been done and could this be the reason i haven’s seen any growth yet?

We’ve studied pulling hair within the first few days after the surgery, and our studies have shown that you can not dislodge hair grafts after the eschar (scabs) are gone. The persistence of eschars is a matter of how well you wash your hair after the surgery. Good washing techniques make the scabs disappear faster. I doubt your girlfriend damaged your hair with scalp massage. Give it a few more months and you should see new hair sprouting (it takes 3-5 months for most of the hair to start growing after a hair transplant).

12 Days After Transplant, Will Running or Weightlifting Harm the Grafts? – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I recieved a hair transplant and on the 12th day after the transplant worked up a heavy sweat br running. Could that have harmed the grafts? I was also wondering when I can lift weights again. Will lifting harm the grafts? Thanks!

At 12 days after a hair transplant, nothing can really damage your grafts. The only thing that may be affected by heavy exercise is the donor area scar. You need to avoid heavy weight lifting activity or exercise that increases the tension on the closed wound edges if you had hair transplant through a strip procedure.

Stitches in the Donor Area – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi Doc, Does the stiches which takes place at donor area hurt after HT? any headaches does it has to be protected from Sun etc for a long time

Thanks

Stitches are something you feel, but I would not say that they hurt. I am talking from my experience with stitches after my two hair transplants. The back hair covers the stitched area so you do not have to worry about the sun.

Hair Loss Information10 Days After Hair Transplant (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

This patient had 1461 grafts just 10 days before these photos were taken. There is only a small beard and no real problem hiding that he had hair transplants as I comb my hair foward. In this way there is a canopy covering the frontal hairline. As with any surgical procedure, there is some visible redness (the degree of which varies per person), but this will subside more in the coming days. So many men expect that the post-operative patient will show deforming holes in the head. Note that there are no wounds evident, just a beard.

Typical Donor Wound Scar (with Photo) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Can you show me a typical donor wound scar?

Block Quote

Here’s a photo of a typical donor wound scar after a single surgery in a person who heals normally. The scar measures 1mm (in the ruler, each line is 1/2mm). He came in for a second surgery this week and I am hoping that the scar from this week’s procedure will turn out as well today as it did before. The risk of significant scarring (greater than 3mm) is 5% for the first surgery, 10% for the second surgery, and higher still for a third surgery. Usually the combed hair in the back will cover most scars.

I apologize that the photo isn’t perfectly focused, but the scar still shows well here. Click to enlarge.

Should I Discontinue Using An Herbal Product On My Hair After Transplantation? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hello Dr. I had a hair transplant in first week of december 06. Its about 3 months now and haven’t seen any growth. This is my second procedure (2200 grafts). My first one gave moderate results (1500 grafts).

I gave up on rogaine as it did more harm than good and I am currently using a herbal product to keep my preexisting hair and it works well.

Should I be concerned about using it on a transplanted area? I started using this after all my scabs were gone(15 days after surgery). I hope this would not interefere with growth of transplanted hair as I see only beneficial results out of it. My doc said it cannot possibly cause any harm as the transplanted hair bears the same identity as the ones in the back of my head.

Your response will be highly appreciated and thanks for your time.

I do not know what is in the herbal substance you are using, but I would generally agree with your doctor that it will not probably make a difference. It is my belief that most herbals do not impact hair growth. At 3 months, most people are just entering into the growth phase which will become evident over the 4-5th month. Can I Stop Minoxidil After My Hair Transplant? – Hair Loss Information by Dr. William Rassman

Hi, as a female with a HT, I have been afraid to use Minoxidil because I CANNOT find the answers to my questions. Is MINOXIDIL a life sentence? Can I stop using it once I feel my HT has reached full potential WITHOUT ANY NEGATIVE EFFECTS on my “new” or existing hair?

A response would be truly helpful to me and many others.

Thanks you sooooooooooooo much for this blog. I consult it daily.

xoxo

Minoxidil is not a life sentence. You can stop using it, and it will not affect your transplanted hairs. However the pre-existing hairs that Rogaine has supported or the new hairs that were the result of Rogaine may fall out. Unless you noticed a huge benefit from Rogaine, I suspect you really will not notice any difference if you stop using it.

The “Baby” Hairs – 5 Months After Hair Transplant (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

Take a look at the very early growth in the first photo below, which reflects the first wave of growth following a hair transplant procedure of 2730 grafts. The new short hairs are easily covered by the hair from behind. When combed forward, the new hair blends with the old hair nicely. I’ve also included the before photo and a photo from 2 weeks after his procedure, just to be complete and so that you can get the full scope of what was done. Some of the short newly transplanted hairs have already fallen out and others that appear to be pointing the wrong way are actually about to fall out. Click the photos to enlarge.

For an example of a past patient with similar results (but further along), please see radio host Steve Hartman‘s results. I’ve posted 3 photos of Steve below — the first photo is before the procedure, the middle photo is at the 5 month mark after his procedure, and the photo on the right is at around 14 months post procedure. I apologize that the angles are slightly different, but they illustrate the point that the above patient still is in the early stage and has a lot to look forward to. Click the photos to enlarge.

Extreme Makeover Patient Heather Update (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

This is the end result after hair transplants on Heather, our only female patient from the Extreme Makeover television show. She is thrilled with the results and tells us that it has changed her life. It took two procedures (totaling 2832 grafts) to get her where she is today because her donor hair was so poor, but with her persistence, she made it all work out. Click the photos below to enlarge.

What Does a Hair Transplant Donor Scar Look Like? (with Photos) – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

How the donor area exactly look after HT ? I have no idea…does it look very ugly and scary ? My doc is not exploring it completely….plz help me sir.

If your doctor does not answer this question for you by showing you patients so that you can examine the donor scar yourself, then go to another doctor who will do this for you. You should be frightened if you are not getting good answers.

Take a look at the two sets of photos below. These patients (who both had Follicular Unit Transplantation) consecutively came into the office for a routine follow-up visit. All scars were easily covered by the combed hair and to see the scar, a comb had to lift up the hair. Click the photos to see full-size.
