1 Week After Transplant, I Accidentally Hit My Head

i had 1200 graphs put in one week ago. after reading your blog, i wish i had done them with you. i was planning on another 1500 or so in my next procedure and i will come see you first for sure. so you will be seeing me about 12 weeks from now. unfortunately, today i was getting into my car and hit my head on inside part of my car door. ( again i am one week post op) i hit it relatively hard…when i reached to see if there was bleeding( i hit in the area of my recepient site) it was bleeding. I did not stop bleeding for about 35 minutes. Did i likely dislodge new transplanted graphs as well? The cut is about 2 inches long, not very wide not too deep. After one week am i likely to have dislodged graphs? i did not see any follicles, but you never know? your opinion?

It is difficult to answer your question without examining you in person (you’re in Los Angeles — we’re in Los Angeles). That being said, the hair grafts are generally considered permanent after the first couple of days. It is very, very difficult to dislodge a graft after they get set-up and I have seen people get lacerations of the scalp from accidents at about 1 week and when I examined them, all of the grafts were intact and in place (unless they were inside the laceration itself). If you did not see any grafts, you probably did not do any significant damage. However if you have a cut on your head, you will get an inevitable scar and hair may not grow on the scar.

If you do decide to make an appointment to have your injury looked at, please mention this blog entry to me (or to Dr. Pak, who is a contributing editor to this blog).

I’m 21 and have been using minoxidil for 2 months

The results from the nightly use of minoxidil has been great, but I want to know if it will stay or eventually be lost.

The hair brought on by minoxidil will stay as long as you stay on the drug. When you stop it, then the minoxidil dependent hairs will fall out. Best always to take the exact same view of the photos.

I’m 23 Years Old and Want a Hair Transplant — Will I Regret It in 10 Years?

Hi,
I am a 23 year old male seriously considering a hair transplant. I am a norwood class 2 w/a naturally high hair line and diffuse thinning in the temples about an inch back and slight thinning in the front (minor). I have been on finasteride for 2 years and rogaine foam (on the hairline) for 2 years. I have a few uncles on my mom’s side who are norwood 5’s and some uncles on my dad’s side who are norwood 2’s and 3’s. My dad is a norwood 2a.

I have been to two hair transplant surgeons who both said I was a good canidiate because I have good donor hair and I’ve halted/slowed my hair loss with finasteride. The surgery would be a conservative approach to establish a mature hairline. I’m not trying to get my adolescent hairline back. They each recommended btw 800 and 1000 grafts via the strip technique.

I know I am young but what do you think? Will I regret this in 10-20 years? Is shock loss a major concern in my case?

Thanks.

You need to find a great doctor that is known to be honest — not one that wants your money instead of giving you what you need. A good relationship with a doctor you trust will be critical to the decision making process. I cannot say the recommendation you got was good or bad, as I haven’t seen you. Some 23 year olds are excellent candidates, some are not. If you do go through the surgery, hopefully the Propecia will limit or prevent shock loss, but there’s no guarantee.

It seems you are having doubts and that raises a red flag for me. Unfortunately I cannot give you a diagnosis, recommendation, or prognosis here.

11 months finasteride & minoxidil

I am very impressed with the results, especially the new growth that is evident over the past 2 months since he added minoxidil (you can see the 2 month growth because the hairs are short). He added minoxidil just 2 months before the last picture was taken and he is clearly a minoxidil responder

Some nice subtle results. Stay the course. The impact in the crown is heading in the right direction, but the frontal area may be just the result of longer hair. Finasteride doesn’t usually work well on the frontal hairline.

I’m In My 50s and My Hair Started Thinning After I Took HBP Medication

I am 56 years old. i have been taking medicine for high blood pressure for 10+ years – Lisinopril10/12.5 and Ziac 2.5. My hair has been receding since i have been on this medicine like male pattern baldness but within the last 6 months it had thinned all over.

Do you think it could be the medicine i take, vitamin deficiencies, or poor circulation? I have been using hairloss shampoo Curetage and Nizoral and it seems to be worse. I can see lots of little tiny hairs about an inch long in my scalp. Is this MPB or something else.

Lisinopril and Ziac are both known to cause hair loss. Of course, the treatment of high blood pressure is important to your health. Speak with your doctor and ask him to consider switching your medication routine.

If you are in Los Angeles, consider paying me a visit so I can make an assessment of your hair, your hair bulk and the degree of miniaturization.
