Class 4A pattern of balding before and after surgery

This patient had 2,900 grafts a few years ago and stopped in to show me what he looked like. The before and after are remarkable. His hair is brown, straight and of medium thickness. He has seen a remarkable change in his self-confidence and the man in the mirror looks good.

Clogged Pore or Dead Graft at 5 Months Post-Op?

Hi Dr. Rassman,

I don’t believe this question has been addressed anywhere on your site. If I missed it, then my apologies.

I am a female who is 5 months post-op. In the past couple of days, I noticed 2 grafts “stuck” in my scalp in what had formed into a clogged pore. I could feel them when I ran my fingers through my scalp and it was obvious that they were just “there” – dead and not growing.

I gently forced them out and they came out easily. They certainly looked like the hairs I had transplanted. In other words, they were not “new” hair. Each graft had 3 hairs in it.

Is this normal or possible at 5 months post-op?

Was I wrong in pressing these things out of my scalp?

Thanks again, and God Bless you Dr. Rassman.

Some people do not shed the transplanted hairs and they are not the ones that grow. You are OK with what you did. Any hair that you remove will not damage what you have or any prospects of what you might get. Good luck. The new hair should be strong at the 8th month.

Oral Minoxidil?

I have been a long time fin user and recent Dutasteride user for the last few months. I’ve already spoken to the guy that’s done my dysport for years about trying oral minoxidil. I’m not interested in using it topically and have read some really encouraging and really recent literature lately on low dose oral Min for MAA. Is this a reasonable option?

Oral minoxidil can be very effective and is a good alternative to finasteride

Combined Radiofrequency and Microneedling Seems to Bring Back Hair Better

This is an interesting article. What seems to be missing is more on the Radiofrequency hardware that they are discussing, and the full article is not available from this link.

Over-Harvested Donor Area from Turkey (photo)

We continue to see over-harvested donor areas where those doing the hair transplants take out so much donor hair that they start making the donor area bald. In this man, clearly the hair transplants also failed as you can see from the top of his head. The donor hairs were also taken from his neck area which is not permanent hair.

Comparing FUE and FUT from Reddit

I generally agree with this analysis; however, I believe that for men with an advanced balding pattern and a finer hair and particularly those with a lower than average donor density (which includes a lot of Asian men), the FUT is a superior procedure because it avoids the moth eaten appearance which is inevitable with FUE.

Female Hair Loss and Chest Pain – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I am a 33 year old female who visited a dermatologist that specializes in hair loss because of a receding hair line, (frontal hairline thinning). Very much the same why men start receding in the front. I was diagnosed with female patterned baldness and told to take Rogaine. In the past I was told the 2% was not very effective to use the 5% but the nurse has informed me to use the 2% and it will take up to 12 months to see any results. I have used the 5% in the past and have not had any side affects though I am not completely happy with the results. Is there any other medications or options I can take other then the Rogaine? I am feeling a tightness in my chest and shortness of breath which I think is from using Rogaine, but I am not 100% sure. I have had blood work done and everything has come up normal. I take no medications other then the Rogaine. It is just so frustrating to be told to use Rogaine when there has been so many medical advancements for men.

Bells go off for me when I hear about tightness in the chest. Women with heart disease is far more common than most people realize. You must remember that Rogaine is a hypotensive medication and could induce (under certain conditions) a drop in blood pressure and chest pain from Angina. Please, see a good doctor. I Am Confused About My Hair?

So I have no receding in the front or temples, basically it’s NW1, but the crown is somewhat thinner I think and having some hair fall Went to the dermatologist and she said there’s no indication of MBP, but I can feel my density has decreased from the year before

Hair loss often starts in the crown in some people. Also in young men, the hairline evolves from its rounded, juvenile concave shape to a V-Shaped convex shape called the mature hairline. If there is thinning in the crown (which I would confirm with the HAIR CHECK test ( https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-and-what-its-value/ ), then I would start the person on finasteride and minoxidil applications, which in combination work well to stop or probably reverse the crown loss. To see the effectiveness of this treatment, I repeat the HAIR CHECK test yearly.

Procerin and Curetage – Hair Loss Information – Balding Blog

I just turned 20 years old and for a year now my hairline has receeded and started to thin dramaticly. Which I am very self-conscious of. I have been taking a natural suppliment called Procerin and using a daily treatment called Curetage for a little over a month and a half, but have noticed no difference. Do external treatments work, and pills work? Or are they just a waste of time? I also heard that hair transplants can’t be done on young men, is this true? Is there anything else i can do to make my hair grow back?

Block Quote

I have written about Procerin before (see past blog entries: Procerin and Procerin Info). The only topical treatment that seems to work is Minoxidil. Many add compounds to Minoxidil to try to make it more effective (e.g. Retin-A, which adds irritation to the skin and some burn to it as well) or combine it with other ‘magical’ formulations to sell it at a high price to take advantage of the value of its marketing label. The best and only real treatment for you is Propecia. There are many things done for hair loss and many people making money from the panic of hair loss victims. ‘Curetage’ sounds like one of them.

Stick with what works and do not risk permanent hair loss to go outside the known effective treatments that are available. Get a good doctor to work with you.
