I Don’t Have Any Leg Hair!

I’m a 22 year old male and i have no medical problems that I know of so far, but i don’t have any hair on my legs. i am kind of ashamed to wear shorts and show my legs to others. is there anyway anyone can help me out?

It’s possible that when you get older some leg hair may appear, though if you haven’t developed it by 22 years old I would think the chances are pretty slim that it’ll start growing later. It is most likely genetics, though if you at one time had some hair on your legs it could be due to some underlying issue (diabetes or a thyroid condition) or even extremely tight fitting clothing.

If hair never grew on your legs at all, I’d look to your genes, in which case there is nothing that is 100% safe to do about this.

Woman Experiencing Significant Hair Loss In Transplant Area 10 Years After Surgery

I’m a female who had a mini graft (hair transplant) 10 years ago. Over this past year I have noticed significant hair loss in the area where the transplanted hair is. When I say significant, I mean the hair on my head is now see through! Why is my transplanted hair falling out? Is there a way to tell which hair is the transplanted hair? I read somewhere that hair transplants in women aren’t as successful as they are in men, because as women age we tend to lose density to our hair. Because of that, all the hair on our head appears to thin, and that includes transplanted hair. Any truth to this?

Women with genetic hair loss will often find progression into the back and sides (called donor area in men) as they age. What you are probably describing is that you are losing this hair and the transplanted hair (which was moved from that area) has some of that hair in there… so what you are probably seeing in the previously transplanted area is the same thing that is happening on the back and sides of your head as well. If your doctor examines the back and sides of your head, he/she will probably see miniaturization that reflects what you are witnessing in the previously transplanted area.

You’ll note that I’m using the word “probably” a lot in my answer, and that is simply because I don’t have enough information to provide a response of real substance. Photos and an examination would help tremendously.

I Feel Terrible Pain When I Lose Hair

Im a 20 year old male, and Ive noticed about 3 months ago ive started to shed my hair along my frontal hairline as well as my scalp. The thinning is gradual, but I can tell that the more I mess with it, touch it, shampoo or comb it it gets much worse. My concern isnt going going bald, my concern is that I feel terrible pains when I do in fact lose hair. It feels as if someone is yanking on my head. Also, afterwards my hair feels very oily, and has a smell to it. Is this normal shedding? Im concerned this isnt male pattern baldness Im being faced with. Thanks in advance for your time, dedication and help.

I’m not making light of your pain, but it sounds like you are overly obsessed with your hair. The pain you feel may be from the emotional roller coaster that you are riding. Do you have someone close that you can talk with? You should try to get some emotional counseling.

Many men experience pain when they lose control over their lives or their health. Hair has been known to reflect such a loss of control. One patient told me, “I have control over everything in my life, what I do, how I feel, how much to work out, who I am friendly with and who become my friends. When it comes to my hair, I know that I have no control over it.”

Woman with Corner Balding — Two Weeks After Hair Transplant (with Photos)

This patient has 1235 grafts placed into the corners of her hairline. The After photo was taken when she was 2 weeks post surgery. She showed many people and most people did not believe she had a transplant. None of the hairs have fallen out yet, although I would expect that the shedding of the transplanted hair would occur at between 2-3 weeks.

One of the most frequent requests we get are about how you can expect to look after a hair transplant, and many people imagine a deformed, scabby area. But our post surgical patients usually have no scabbing if they wash their hair diligently as we’ve defined it.

I’m sorry about the slightly different angles on the before and after photos. I messed up when taking the after photo so this is the best I’ve got until I see this patient again… but this still gives a good idea of what one can expect just a couple weeks after surgery. I Had 2 Hair Transplants, Both Times Hair Didn’t Grow

I had hair transplants twice, 1500 and 800. Each time hair grew for 8 to 10 months then most fell out. The doctor was in first year doing hair transplants. He said something is wrong with me. He said they should have grown. What do you think happen? Thanks

This does not sound kosher to me. If the new hair grew, it should have kept growing. Did it really grow? Did you lose native hair rather than transplanted hairs? You need a second opinion that you can trust.

Won’t Have Access to Finasteride for 4 Weeks

I’m currently in a foreign country and I got robbed of my bag which contained all of my finasteride. I won’t have access to it for another 4 weeks. What should I do? I’ve been taking it for 12 months (1mg/day) with good results. How much hair will I lose? Should I go back to my own country to get more? Please help, thanks

After about three weeks, the finasteride tissue levels significantly reduce and the ‘catch-up hair loss’ may start. Get someone to mail you a few pills to get you over the hump.

I Had a Hair Transplant, But I Have DUPA!

This is my story. I went to Dr. [name removed] because my front was thinning more than the rest of my hair. The doctor recommended 2489 grafts in the frontal 1 inch. He lowered my hairline because he said it was the sexy look and at 26 years old, that was a good look. After 9 months, the hair in the front was still very thin so the doctor told me to have another transplant. I purchased another 1804 grafts which did not appear to have grown out after another 10 months. I went back to the doctor and he told me that I needed more grafts. The area that he took the grafts from was very, very thin after the second transplant. I did not feel comfortable with this recommendation, so I went to another doctor to get a second opinion. He told me that I have DUPA and that the entire hair on my scalp was thin and see through. My scar is very visible. This second doctor told me that I should not have had the surgery and that I was in a bad place to do anything but wear a wig. So I went to a wig place and the wig was totally unnatural. The hair on the top was thick, the side hair was not covered by the wig and looked transparent. What do I do? Is there a place to complain about my surgical care? Do I go to a lawyer and if so, how do I find a good lawyer?

It sounds pretty clear that by having Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA), you were never a candidate for surgery. Hair transplant surgery in men such as yourself is a disaster and no you will probably always show this deformity. It seemed that the doctor must have needed your money and did not care about your welfare. First of all, I would like to see you, possibly get pictures from you so that I could ascertain for myself if you had DUPA. I would try the use of dutasteride (only if you really have DUPA), which would be an off-label use of this drug. I have seen some men with DUPA get a response from finasteride, but high doses of dutasteride may have value. The problem with this drug is the issue of sexual drive and low sperm counts from its use. These would be things we would have to talk about and you certainly should not consider having children anytime soon if you try this route.

Your recourse includes:

  1. Complaint to the medical board of your state.
  2. Seek out a lawyer by going to the state bar for assistance in finding one.

The courts are generally not victim-friendly when dealing with hair transplants, because they do not see significant damages so the monies collected in the few cases that went to court have been pretty low. For the readers out there, please keep in mind that the doctor you choose should be ethical, honest, and competent. Try to identify the larceny in the doctors before you bet your appearance on someone you don’t know and can’t research.

I would be happy to help you, but we must first somehow meet.

Would Dutasteride beat hair loss 90% of the time?

There is not a relationship between the effectiveness of the drug as a competitive inhibitor and its ability to beat the balding process. I can’t give you statistics as everyone is different.

I Had No Hair Loss, But Tried Rogaine and Now My Hair Is Different

Hello! I would like to ask a question about rogaine. I have understood that sideeffects like change in texture and color may occur. This is rare but it does happen according to the information i have got by reading about rogaine. Now I haven´t had any signs of hairloss but I tried it for a while anyway. Stupid I know but that I already know. What I don´t know if this is the same as what you describe as DUPA. You see since I quit rogaine after using it for a month the texture and color changed slowly the following six months. Now more than half of the hair is lighter not as dark in color as before and it grows in a different direction and I have a mix of thin and thicker hair. Could that be that all my hair is changing to a different density? It´s ok I can accept my stupid mistake but do you think it´s DUPA where it´s an ongoing process created by rogaine where the density is decreasing more and more like DUPA. Or do you think I just got a new density and that´s it case closed? I would really want to know if I will keep my hair since there is no male pattern baldness in my family or if rogaine started a DUPA process. ´Please if you could make time to answer this question that is so important for me I would be very greatful.

I have heard no similar history, so I couldn’t begin to guess at what you are experiencing, especially over the Internet without an exam.

You need to be examined by a professional. If you have diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA), it will show on the mapping of your scalp hair for miniaturization.

My Brother Is Balding and My Father Has What I Would Call Advanced Balding

Your hair line is a classic low mature hairline, and I don’t see any balding in you at this time (I actually saw photos of his head from the top-down as well). I would not recommend the use of finasteride at this time. The mild blunting of your right temple peak may eventually be mirrored by the left side.
