Nitric Oxide and Hair Loss

Will taking Nitric Oxide have adverse reaction on my thinning hair or the opposite?

We do know that nitric oxide is a vasodilator. Many of the claims that relate to increased blood flow that are reported from the low level laser therapy (LLLT) suggest that it is the nitric oxide that is causing the increased blood supply. Simply, LLLT has been claimed to increase blood flow to the hair follicles through nitric oxide production and release, thereby increasing hair growth. The evidence for this is scant and conjectural. Some people feel that if you take L-arginine supplements, this will help facilitate the process, but be careful as L-arginine is known in high doses to be a dangerous agent.

I hope I didn’t lose anyone. To sum all of that up — no, I do not believe it will have any effect on thinning hair.

Can a Strip Scar from a Hair Transplant Become Smaller with a Second Hair Transplant?

I did an FUT in 2010. I was told by a respectable clinic in Turkey that I can do a second FUT, where the old scar will be cut and the surgeon will perform an incision on top of scar and remove it. So, instead of old scar, I will have a newer thinner one. How is this possible? I’m aware I can do an FUE on top of the scar. Unfortunately with FUE, I’d have to shave my head, which would make the old scar visible. My long term plan is to do an FUE on top of scar but not now.

A second surgery almost always increases the size of the scar, if it is another strip surgery. Sometimes, I remove the scar and create a trichophytic closure which helps hair to grow through the scar. However, I reserve this for the last surgery I do when I perform a strip surgery. Strip surgery scars can easily be treated with scalp micropigmentation (See here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/scar-covering/)

No Sign of Hair Loss in Family Line

Hi. I am 20 years old and I have a very high hairline that I have had since I was a child. I did not have hair on my head until I was 3 years old. My hair is very thin and over the past few years I have had long, unhealthy hair that I was able to pull out of my head by merely running my my hand through it, especially when I was showering. I just recently got it cut short, but just long enough so that it actually appears to be thicker because it is much healthier. There is no sign of male pattern hairloss in my family so I am wondering if the hair that fell off of my head could actually grow back over time, and if hair can naturally and gradually thicken on its own if it is healthy. Thank you

You need to get a firm diagnosis to determine if you really do or do not have genetic balding. If the thinning you are talking about is traumatic, it will grow back. If it is secondary to genetic causes, then it probably will not. Just because there is no genetic balding in the family, it does not mean that you do not have it, because it can skip generations. I see this fairly often. Get your hair mapped out for miniaturization (see also: Hair Mapping for Miniaturization) and then with a diagnosis in hand, you can look at your problem more objectively.

Can I Use Body Hair to Transplant into a Depleted Donor Area (Photo)?

Body hair is not terribly efficient for treating the donor area, and it will take a lot of body hair as well. More hair means more cost. It is much better to do Scalp Micropigmentation (https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/).

Heading to a Norwood 7, feel hopeless!

I’m on finasteride, but if he’s a Norwood 7 then I will never be able to get my hair back via a hair transplant so I would need something better then a hair transplant.

I keep focusing on the Personalized Master Plan which is geared to keep hair on your head no matter what. That can happen with almost anyone, but you have to get a good, reliable, honest doctor who you can trust to build the plan for you. There have been very few men that I could not achieve this goal with.

Can you comment on: “Why Most People Should NOT Have A Follicular Unit Extraction”

Follicular Unit Excision (new name) was pioneered by me in the mid to late 1990s. I published the first article in the world on this surgery in 2002. This is a great surgery if the surgeon knows how to do it. Fortunately today, there are many surgeons who have mastered it; however, there is a limit as to how many grafts a person can have with FUE without developing a see-through donor area. I have published the answer to this on my website here: https://newhair.com/resources/#tab-id-4

Not Hair Loss News – Energy Drinks Increase Blood Pressure and Produce Changes in EKG

Snippet from the article:

The group aimed to see how energy drinks affect heart health, given that these drinks, along with dietary supplements, are not regulated as stringently as new drugs that must meet Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety requirements, Shah said.

In a literature search, they identified seven observational and interventional trials that evaluated the impact of energy drinks on QT interval, blood pressure, and heart rate.

Three studies with a pooled sample of 93 subjects had QT/QTc data. Six studies with a pooled sample of 132 subjects had blood-pressure data, and seven studies investigated heart rate.

The patients, who were all young (aged 18 to 45) and healthy, underwent ECG and blood-pressure testing before and just after drinking one to three cans of energy drink—most commonly Red Bull, but also others such as Full Throttle and Meltdown RTD. An 8.4-oz can of Red Bull contains 80 mg of caffeine, compared with 35 mg of caffeine in a 12-oz Coke or about 100 mg of caffeine in an average cup of coffee, Shah said.

It’s not hair loss related, but it’s worth a post…

This is a study by Dr Sachin Shah, presented at the American Heart Association Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism / Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention (AHA EPI-NPAM) 2013 Scientific Sessions.

According to the report, the increase buzz may be the result of caffeine alone, but the changes in the EKG has not been explained and the relevance of it is not clear.

Can you predict a final hair loss pattern?

Is it true that a trained doctor or professional can predict an someone final hair loss pattern?

Not 100%, however using family history, timing your appearance of balding (when you started), how fast it is moving, miniaturization analysis and most important if you have a significant amount of hair get a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/), then I might be reasonably confident I could advise you on your final balding pattern, especially if you are over 25 years of age.

Not Hair Loss News — Stem Cells Can Reverse Brain Damage from Stroke

Snippet from the article:

People who received the world’s first stem cell treatment for strokes have shown measurable reductions in disability and handicap a year after the injection into their damaged brains.

Some can move limbs and manage everyday tasks that were impossible before they received an injection of neural progenitor stem cells, which were clones of cells originally taken from the cortex of a donated fetus.

Apart from physical rehabilitation, there are few treatments for people left severely disabled by a stroke. Demand for more options is high, with 800,000 new cases each year in the US and 150,000 in the UK.

Read the rest — First stem cell trial for stroke shows lasting benefits

Results were presented from 11 people disabled by stroke that were given injections of stem cells. This announcement was made in Nice, France at the European Stroke Conference last week, and it shows the power of stem cells in treating damaged organs.

We have seen remarkable benefits from stem cells after a heart attack where these cells changed into muscle cells to help the heart handle its output load. The future here is very bright! Who knows, one day we may even be able to create hair!

Cannabis and finasteride may produce Erectile Dysfunction

A hair transplant doctor I know has noticed that some of her finasteride patients who started taking cannabis, has seen ED appearing. The article states: “What’s good for the goose may be bad for the gander. Specifically, marijuana use may cause erectile dysfunction in men. Of note, erectile dysfunction is the most frequent male sexual disorder.” For men on finasteride and who are using marijuana and have sexual side effects, maybe there is a link that potentiates the ED in finasteride users.
