Has Rogaine Caused DUPA?

After using rogaine and the quitting i discovered a mix between thick and thin hairs. Have I created DUPA because my hair is worse now then before. Also the colour of those hairs are gone..same thing happening to my pubic area and facial hair. Do you think rogaine has created DUPA on me. I used it for a month and haven’t used it for two months now

Having thick and thin hair does not mean you have diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA). You need to be evaluated by a good dermatologist or a hair transplant surgeon to find out if your diagnosis is DUPA. The changes in hair color in different parts of your body indicate that you are undergoing some preprogrammed change, probably not related to Rogaine (minoxidil).

What are the better clinics in Turkey?

I am not in the business of telling you which clinics are the best clinics, but if you go to ISHRS.org and look up Turkey, only qualified doctors are recommended on this site.

Haven’t Seen Much Growth 7 Months After My Hair Transplant

Hi,

I had a hair transplant about 7 months ago and I really have not seen any major improvement. I had the transplant of the hair line. What has happened is that some of the transplanted hair never fell out and has continued to grow but I have seen no regrowth where the transplants shed.

Is this a failure or will it still grow.

My hairline is still a little red.

Thank you

At 7 months, you should see growth from the transplants. It sounds like it’s possible that your transplants grew in right away (seen in 5% of patients), but you may have experienced shock loss in the surrounding hair, leaving you no better off than before you started. As for redness, it should’ve subsided months ago. I don’t know enough about your procedure (number of grafts, hair type, technique used) or your skin type to be able to reflect on the persistent redness or if the transplant was a failure or not. I would discuss your concerns with the physician that performed the surgery and use the pre-operative photographs when you discuss this with him/her.

What Caused Sudden Female Hair Loss — Chemical Relaxer or Psoriasis?

A client I have serviced for almost one year accuses me of causing her hair to fall out after a relaxer I gave her. She called me two days after the relaxer saying her hair was shedding. I am very thorough with my rinsing of chemicals and the shampoos that follow. She said her hair was coming out in strands and that her scalp itched a little. I suggested she see a dermatologist. Her dermatologist told her that there was nothing showing in her bloodwork that would cause her hair to fall out. He prescribed her Luxiq which as you know is for psoriasis of the skin and scalp. Would’nt that not mean that she had a skin condition which caused her hair to fall out and not the relaxer?

It sounds like you may be looking for potential legal advice. I do not know your client or the entire circumstance involving her hair loss. This sounds like an acute episode of hair loss happened within a couple of days of the treatment you gave her. There seems to be a direct link between the use of chemicals and the hair loss, based on what you’re telling me. As I’ve written before, psoriasis will not cause hair loss unless you pick at it enough to develop traction alopecia. This does not seem to be a traction alopecia case, though.

There are many possible reasons for female hair loss, ranging from medical illness to genetics to hormonal to stress. Moreover, even with modern advancement in medical technology, the exact cause and/or cure for female hair loss is still elusive. Your client’s hair loss may have been related to the chemical stress or it may just also be coincidental. I really cannot say.

Healing Time for Hair Plug Removal?

How long for a full skin recovery after a plug removal? (punch size 1 mm)

A 1mm punch excision will usually fill in over a week’s period of time. Large punches will take longer unless they are sutured together.

What do you think of my donor area? (photo)

You need your donor area examined with a video microscope and get a hair count and a measurement of the thickness of your hair. You want to make sure that you don’t have DUPA which can be diagnosed with the hand microscope. If you want to know your original donor density and your Hair Mass Index along with your total available donor graft supply for your lifetime, see an expert in the field.

Help me doctor! I think I am thinning my hair and have DUPA?

Well, this is not an uncommon question for many people who wake up one day and look in the mirror and see what they never noticed before. Usually, it is never this bad, of course (please excuse the patient but I got him up too early to do up his hair). Hair loss in Monkeys is common and balding in chimps are also common so humans don’t have a monopoly for this problem. Hair serves as both a sensory organ (one feels a mosquito landing on the scalp as the hairs are often touched by the mosquito) and it is also a good radiator where wind moving through the hair allows the body to lose heat. That is why African hair is kinky as it allows air to move freely and cool the body when a man is running. But from a cosmetic point of view, men want hair and that is why I am in this business and regardless of your race, men and society think that hair makes you look healthy and younger. DUPA occurs when there is miniaturization all over, including the donor area (back and sides of the head) and it is very uncommon. Too many young men who read about DUPA (Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia) think that they have it and I can’t tell you how many men call or write to me about their DUPA diagnosis without proof that it is there.

What Hair Restoration Procedures Actually Work?

Assuming price is not an issue, what are the hair restoration procedures/companies that actually work? (It’s one thing to drop 20 grand and get results, it’s quite another for expensive snake oil).

What we do in hair transplants really work. The other day, I saw a man who had 2000 grafts about 14 years ago and he looked absolutely normal with no signs of balding. His pre-op pictures from oh-so-many years ago showed his Class 3A balding pattern clearly. I looked closely at this man’s hairline now and could not see any hint of surgery, even though I knew what was done.

I can only speak for my own practice and the work we do. You can and should research other clinics on the web, but always remember to meet with patients that had surgery with the doctor you choose. Photos are one thing, but seeing the hair in person is much better. We hold monthly open house events so potential patients can meet patients in person. Most doctors don’t do events like that, but you should ask to meet their patients nonetheless.

High Forehead in Teenager

Hey,
I’m 15 years old and my forehead is huge, my hair is about 1-1.5 inchs further back then it should be. I have long hair to cover it,but I hate having it, I would prefer having short hair. Is there anything I can do? Is this permanent?

I’m not certain if you are male or female, so I am assuming your are male. If I am incorrect, please send me another email and reference this response.

There are a series of reasons that can produce a high hairline:

  1. if this is new for you and is an evolving process then it could be a maturing hairline
  2. you could have a genetic high hairline, something that is not uncommon
  3. you may be experiencing hair loss

Youthful or female hairlines: Wrinkle your brow while you look into the mirror. The highest wrinkle reflects the top of the frontalis muscle and both youthful and female hairlines start at this level in all children (male or female). If your hairline is touching this line, then you may have a genetically high hairline.

Mature male hairline: Repeat the above procedure, and if the center of your hairline is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch above that top wrinkle, then the hairline is a normal mature male hairline. For you, at 15, that would be unusual as this hairline usually starts to appear between the ages of 18-29 in most men.

Genetic hair loss: This would be higher than any of the two above hairlines, certainly higher than 3/4 inch above the highest wrinkle. One way to rule out hair loss is by mapping out your head using densitometer or a magnifying video-camera. A good doctor should be able to tell you this.

What If I Haven’t Seen Regrowth Results from Propecia At 9 Months?

You always say at the 8th – 9th month mark you should see Propecia’s regrowth/thickening of hairs. If you haven’t seen anything by then does it mean there is no possibility of thickening of miniaturized hairs or regrowth after that? I read that Propecia can take up to 1 year to see it’s benefits, so what’s the deal here?

I do not believe I said Propecia will make your hair thicker or regrow new hair all the time. Medication works differently for each person, so I couldn’t guarantee that. You must understand that there is no magic cure for hair loss and all drugs have limitations. As such if you are not noticing growth, you may notice less hair falling out. Less hair falling out still means it is working.
