FUSS or FUE which is better?

Dr Lorenzo is one of the most famous FUE surgeons in Europe. He claims that “The greatest benefit of the FUE technique is that there is no damage done to the follicular units during extraction<quote>
source : http://injertocapilar.com/differences-fue-strip/?lang=en” How would you comment that. Based on what you write on your site the above is a false claim.

What Dr. Lorenzo calls FUSS has been a long proven technique and when performed in the hands of an experienced surgeon, it is certainly as good as FUE, or better put, FUE is as good as FUSS in the hands of an expert surgeon in most situations.

Technician doing hair transplants in his basement in Toronto

The person doing the surgery was arrested. It is amazing not that he was doing transplants in his basement, but that someone would agree to it just for a reduced price. The patient was told it wasn’t a surgery. Death is a reasonable complication when you don’t know what you are doing as a surgeon.

In the early 1990s, some tech working for a doctor, opened up his office for weekend and did the surgery over the weekend using the doctors’ own supplies. They needed more help, so friends working for NYC garbage collection, worked for them, assisting them do the surgery. It hit the front pages of the NY Newspapers (see:https://www.iahrs.org/hair-transplant-podcast/garbage-man-hair-transplant-surgeon-you-cant-make-this-stuff-up)

Generic Propecia (1mg Finasteride) Now Available in the US?

Snippet from the press release —

Drug firm Dr Reddy’s Laboratories today said it has launched its generic Finasteride tablets used for treating male pattern hair loss in the American market.

The company has launched Finasteride tablets in the strength of 1 mg in the US market on January 2 following the approval of its abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) with 180 days of marketing exclusivity, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories said in a statement.

So it sounds like Dr Reddy’s has a 6 month exclusive window to sell their brand of generic Propecia before other pharmaceutical companies can legally make their brands for sale in the US.

I’m not sure if they’ll keep the Finax name they were using to sell 1mg finasteride in other countries or if they’ll go with something new, but if anyone out there has picked up some of their 1mg finasteride, let us know in the comments!

How do you tell someone you care about him and that he is balding?

Be honest and that shows you care. Men often deny early balding and by the time to stop denying it, the are past the point when they might have prevented or reversed it with medications. This goes to extremes and the denial can occur over a generation to the point where men can’t even see what happened to them such as those with the awful comb-overs whose wives and family never say a word. I know your question is really about early balding, but by being open and frank, you can show how much you really care and take a load off of his back.

Getting a minor transplant for minor hair loss

I noticed that something like this takes only 800 grafts and my hair is not even close to as bad as this persons so reasonably speaking is 500 grafts not a reasonable guess and there is a lot of hair present, so these drugs are the best option. That area would take more like 1500-2000 grafts depending upon the thickness (fine, medium or coarse) of the hair

There is a lot of hair present, so drugs are the best option. If you are compelled to do something, then get Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) rather than a hair transplant and you will not have a visible balding crown. Our website shows the results we get from SMP: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/gallery/thinning-hair/

Terrible Female Hairlines from Poor Hair Transplant Techniques

The surgeon who did this hairline lowering procedure with a hair transplant, did not understand many things such as: (1) there must be a transition zone of single hairs in front of the newly created hairline, (2) the hair direction is not radial, but rather follows a discrete direction which was not adhered to here, and (3) there are many two and three hair grafts in the front of the hairline making it clearly Man-made. No hairline should look like this. Unfortunately, too many doctor who don’t understand the process, fail to learn the basics and produce victims who put their trust and their look in the wrong hands.

Advisory Panel For FDA Recommends Restrictions To Doctors On The Use Of Testosterone

On September 17th, an Advisory Panel For FDA Recommends Restrictions To Doctors On The Use Of Testosterone on a vote of 20:1. Testosterone use has become more popular among American men and the question that is posed: Is it Safe? Men think that they have reduced testosterone and believe that it may be the cause of reduced sexual function. For these men, testosterone become the dream aphrodisiac to bring back their sexual performance and drive from their younger days. What most men do not realize is that decreased sexual function, from a physiological point of view is common in men over 40. Those with decreased sexual performance impacts (in general) 40% of men in their 40s, 50% in their 50s, 60% in their 60s and so on. Most of these men, especially those in their 40s and 50s have normal testosterone levels so added testosterone may have no know sexual benefit. Obviously from the vote, one panel member did not agree with the rest and this reflects uncertainty in the field. No one knows if the FDA will accept the panels recommendation.

Testicles and Balding

I recently heard of a story(second hand) where a pair of identical twins, due to an unfortunate accident, were part of an interesting experiment.

Apparently at the age of 21 one of the pair lost his testis in some motor vehicle accident. Now both are in their fifties, the one who was in this accident has a full head of hair, and his identical twin is quite bald. Does this mean that removing your testis stops balding?

I am terribly sorry if this a very silly question.

Thanks for your time

Good question! I have not heard of that story, but that is a very real possibility. Male pattern hair loss is in part due to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a breakdown product of testosterone. If a man is missing his testicles, which is the source of the majority of testosterone in his body, he will have a very low level of DHT and should not bald.

My Father Had About 3000 hairs On The Top Of His Head

My father (age 60) is pretty bald (Class 6 balding pattern) but he still had hair on the top of his head. I am also a Class 6 (age 40) person but more balding than my father as my scalp is clean of any hair on the top. I went to a hair transplant doctor and he recommended that I get 1500 grafts on the front and top of my head. I was curious as to how much hair that would be, so I asked my dad if I could count the hairs on the top of his head. He had lost his hairline over 20 years ago as I have. I counted about 3000 hairs on his head, so assuming that I get 1500 grafts averaging two hairs each per graft, I realized just how much hair I wold get from such a transplant. He looks sickly with his 3000 hair if it were not for his top shape and his workout routine. Did I do this right to see what I think that I would like with 3000 hairs in the 1500 grafts recommended for me?

Answer: The recommendation of 1500 grafts in a completely bald class 6 pattern, would not give a big impact for you. To cover the class 6 pattern, you would need closer to 5,000-7,000 grafts depending upon the thickness of your hair shafts (fine, medium or coarse). Spreading 1500 grafts around a Class 6 pattern will not give you much coverage unless your hair shafts were thicker than his and the grafts were focused on the front and forward top areas of your head. I found a 44 year old male with a Class 6 pattern on my website (https://newhair.com/photos/patient-xk/). He had 4178 grafts in two sessions. The redness in the front reflected a hair system (wig) he wore which was glued to his scalp. His hair was of medium weight. If you hair is of medium weight, then you could expect to look like this with about 4000 grafts. Look at his before picture and tell me if this is the type of hair that your father has? If so, it might be miniaturized (very fine) so it will not give much coverage, so 1500 grafts of non-miniaturized hair placed in the frontal area might look ok, but significant coverage will not be obtained and these grafts should not be placed in the top and crown area.

To take a look at two other patients, I offer: https://newhair.com/photos/patient-ba/ (patient BA) and https://newhair.com/photos/patient-cd/ (patient CD). Patient BA’s area of coverage with 2184 grafts of medium weight hair that is straight (no wave in it) combs over nicely to cover the bald area. Patient CD had 1349 grafts with good frontal coverage because his hair was coarse and very curly (kinky). Patient CDs hair attributes give more coverage than people with medium weight, straight hair as seen in patient BA. If the hair was fine in either of these men, the coverage would be thinner.

I hope that these comparisons will give you an ability to estimate what 1500 grafts might do. Compare your hair attributes to those of these men and then you might be able to see the value of the recommended 1500 grafts.

Thank You from a Medical Student

Hi Doctors,

Just wanted to say thank you to your commitment to this website — as a medical student (University of Virginia) I’m impressed daily by your not only your expertise but your willingness to provide honest advice, even when this is not advantageous to you, financially or otherwise. I see too many doctors doing otherwise on a daily basis, unfortunately.

Best

We appreciate your kind words. 🙂
