I’ve read about testestorone which produce DHT causes hair loss. I would like to know if lifting weights causes hair loss. I lift weights(heavy) almost 5 times a week. Also, I check out some website and they recommend using olive oil and aloe vera which I took from my back yard. Applied it on my hair and massage it for about 30 minutes. So far it help with getting rid of my sometimes smelly scalp and my dandruff problem. I would like to know if that really work. Thanks.
I know that aloe vera is the magic plant that cures almost everything. It is used extensively in the tropics where it is grown as a herbal solution to a wide variety of skin problems and I know that it works in many. Reading that it helped your dandruff is not a surprise. Adding olive oil is a wetting agent, which should stop flaking. It would not benefit you in the treatment of hair loss, however. For more info on aloe vera, you should check out the Wikipedia entry.
Oh, and weightlifting does not cause hair loss.
I am an African American female, and I used a chemical relaxer on my hair. Within a few days I had excessive itching and excessive scaling. The results are all over my head. Can you tell me what this could be? Chemical burn? Dandruff? Not sure. I applied Sulphur 8 to mu scalp to control some of the itching. It has helped a little, but if I tough my scalp the itching starts up again. The itching seems to get bad about 3-4 days after I wash my hair.
So, my questions are: What could this be, and how should I remedy the situation? Also, does this seem sever and should I get a doctor involved?
Thank You.
A chemical relaxer is, well, a chemical. Any chemicals can cause local skin irritation or an allergic reaction. I would suggest that you see a primary doctor or a dermatologist if this problem persists. Burns from chemical relaxers are quite common.
I have been asked lately to show more pictures after the surgery so that prospective patients can understand what they may look like. Each patient is different because of hair and skin color. The lower the contrast, the less detectable it is, the grater the contrast the more detectable the ‘beard look’ of new hair is. The redness you see will be gone in a day or two. The tape was put there to prevent swelling from creeping down in the forehead into the eyes. Note there is no crusting and the recipient area looks clean because we wash it very carefully. We don’t usually see the patients after the first day post-op to get daily pictures, but as the patients come in, I will try to update these photos.
There are no scars in the area but on the left side of my chin about 3 months ago I developed a bald spot about the size of a quarter. there are some very light hairs but not growing. Also I have developed smaller spots under the chin line. I am on no medication and my hair is a very dark brown.
These balding spots may be a sign of alopecia areata. This is NOT a diagnosis, just a possibility. You need to see a doctor (dermatologist) to get a real diagnosis.

hey doctor. I’m just wondering if I have a mature hairline or is it more? my hairline has certainly changed from when I was 18. also I cannot understand why one side seems to be receding more than the other and has been for years! I have naturally thin hair.
I have attached a picture that tracks my right side for over 2 years. a recent picture with my hair wet and also with a styling product in and then the left side which does not seem to change. you can use this for you site if you like.
Thanks for allowing us to publish your photos. I didn’t use all of them, but I think our readers will get the idea. Click them to enlarge.
Some men do not bald symmetrically, and in your case, that seems to be what is happening. The left side appears to be a mature hairline and the right side appears to be beyond just the mature stage. Propecia is a good drug to help slow down the process, though I wouldn’t expect regrowth there necessarily.
Since you indicated that you’re in the UK, I would suggest visiting a specialist like Dr. Bessam Farjo with offices in London and Manchester, so you can get an expert opinion on your hair loss situation.
I’ve done a lot of research on here. I love how I’m not the only one dealing with this. Father went bald at 22 and my grandfather is bald as well.
I noticed hairloss around my sophomore year of highschool. Pretty mild crown bald spot. Had a person come tell me my crown had no hair and that I should move it. Little did I know there was nothing to cover the spot with.
I have very curly hair from my mothers side. I took a lot of her genes from some reason but it seems like the big gene I took from my father is hairloss. Around a year ago I started to use Shea moisturizer curling cream since again I have curly hair. I didn’t realize that the curling moisturizer itself was doing something to my hair until I stopped using it during quarantine. My hair started falling out quite rapidly. ALOT of dandruff which it itched a lot not sure because it was amount of showers I was taking or what. Then again still unsure. I never went outside during this period so my body was all over lol. I returned back to Cantu curling and my hair looks a lil better after a week I don’t know if there’s something in the cream that helps my hair. Anyways besides the point.
I knew I was going bald. My hairline has be receding. There’s nothing but single strands of hair across my hairline that was once there. The top of my head is also. I can pretty much see a lot more of my scalp. But the back of my head has perfect hair. I want to try fin. I’m not to worried about the whole beard and facial hair issue. I have a thick full beard at 18 and seems like I’ve hit the peak of my puberty I guess you can say. I see there’s a lot of side effects going on with ED and stuff then again I’ll just stop taking it if it’s severe. I wanna get this discussed with a doctor first but I would like to hear from the other teens here since I know there’s much more commenting then posting.
-how was fin treated you ? -how bad are the side effects if so how long did they last? -should I really take this at this age?
If your father went bald at 22 and you get his genes, the only possibility to hold on to your hair is the drug finasteride. Men who get a Norwood Class 7 by their mid-20s have never been studied with finasteride at an early age like 17-18. With the HAIRCHECK instrument, the diagnosis may be much easier when the hair loss first starts along this path, possibly as early as 18 years old. This type of balding is aggressive so the treatment with finasteride has to be timely and consistent.

We hold Open House Events every month in our Los Angeles where former patients come in to discuss their experience with prospective patients. I asked them yesterday if they would be willing to allow me to photograph their hairlines. These men said yes. All of these hairlines were transplanted by either Dr. Rassman or Dr. Pak. As you can see, they are each different but they are all normal looking and don’t look like their hair was transplanted but the hairlines were directed by the patient so what you see is individual differences between patients individual tastes. Scroll down to see each patient as they are separated from each other in this post. If you come to one of our Open House events, you can meet and speak to such men.
This patient had his entire head in a Class 6 pattern transplanted including all of the hairline you see.
This patient had his entire Class 4A frontal pattern transplanted including all of the hairline you see as well as the side hairline.
This man had a Class 3A pattern and had his entire frontal area transplants including the hairlines
This man has a Class 6 pattern of balding transplanting his entire front, top and the upper part of his crown. The hairline is a completely transplanted hairline.
This patient just had a surgery 4 weeks earlier (some in the front and most in the crown) and the hair has already started growing. He previously had 2000 grafts for the frontal hairline and frontal area
This man had a Class 7 pattern of balding and received 11000 grafts
This man has a Class 5 pattern of balding and had his entire pattern transplanted including his frontal hairline
This man had his entire head transplanted. He was the first patient to get FUE in North America.
Dr.Rassman/Dr.Pak,
Would FUE donor-area wounds closed by suture allow for relatively scar-free surgery, or would the procedure be simply too impractical and/or prohibitively expensive to carry out?
Thank you.
It would be prohibitively expensive and time consuming. Many people with densities of 2 hair/mm square or better will not scar significantly if the punch that the surgeon uses is 1mm or less. Some surgeons use larger punches and if the person has a low donor density, the scars will be evident as these two things are combined.
Hi. I had my procedure with you in April. I am out of my propecia. Online purchases? Prices? I am in school, your envelope non-specific? Thanks.
Call my office at 800-639-4247 to renew the prescription and find out our current charge. There are options: you can buy it directly from us, we will mail it to you in a white box with green trim and the first time you buy from us we do give a free sample; you can provide us with the name of a pharmacy and we can call in the prescription for you; or you can ask us to send you a written prescription and you can hand carry it to a pharmacy or use it for an online purchase. As far as prices, call a few pharmacies – some of the warehouse stores are slighly less expensive, check online prices (make sure that you are getting the actual drug, not a knock-off), and see what works best for your budget. We do ask that patients sign a consent form for the prescription, and that they come back to see us each year, so we can gauge the effectiveness of the Propecia.
