Hair Transplant On Vertex Crown

I am a 26 year old male with vertex hair loss only. My hairline and frontal hair is very strong, yet my vertex is almost slick bald for a few years now. I was thinking about having a hair transplant, yet I am not sure whether I will lose my hair in the front or not.

I have been to a hair transplant surgeon and he was very surprised with my unusual pattern of loss and suggested that I get a hair transplant (I strictly do not want to use any medication).

I am left confused here. I do want to replace the hair that I lost in my crown, however I certainly do not want to have a weird loss pattern if I start losing frontal hair in the future. My question is, how long should I wait to find out my eventual hair loss pattern or should I cross my fingers and go forward with the process now? I know a diagnosis without a physical examination is impossible, but a second opinion cannot hurt I guess.

There seems to be a disconnect between you and your doctor. If he recommend surgery what is the problem? What is the “weird” hair loss pattern? Is your doctor a novice where he has never seen a person like you before? Maybe you need a second opinion from another doctor (in person). Some people do not fit into a classic Norwood balding pattern. Some people only bald on the top vertex area just as Dr. Rassman had (no frontal or top balding and only a bald crown). You definitely need a good diagnosis and a Master Plan of action. What we do in such a situation for someone of your age, is that we perform a bulk analysis of your hair in front and on top. then compare the hair bulk from the same sized area in back of your head (the permanent zone used for hair transplants). Most people your age, will show some decreased hair bulk in the frontal area and on the top of the head if they have any balding present elsewhere in their head.

A person with a balding crown may increase the size of the balding area as they age. If they have a hair transplant and they the crown balding area enlarges, you must transplant the wider balding area or you will be left with a hair ‘island’ in a larger balding area. The implications of transplanting the crown should be known to you, of just research it on the internet or our website (https://newhair.com/resources/assessing-hair-loss/), purchase our book ‘Hair Loss For Dummies’ which can be ordered through Amazon or our office, or visit one of our badlingblog editors if you are in Los Angeles, Koream or England.

Using Dermenodex Right After a Hair Transplant

Do you think it’s safe to use “Dermenodex Scalp Cleansing Shampoo” a few weeks after a hair transplant?

I have no experience in the use of Dermenodex, but based on what I read in this thread at the HairLossHelp forums, I would not use it.

Hair Transplant Review for Face Lift Hair Line Scar

This is a review of a hair transplant to address scars from plastic surgery. This patient had a face lift scar on her hair line which also gave her a slightly high forehead. While the scar itself was not prominent, she wanted to wear her hair up without worrying about the scar. She also wanted a more rounder (feminine) hair line. She had about 600 grafts to accomplish her goals.

Using Minoxidil On Newly Transplanted Hair?

Hello-

What is your recommendation regarding the use of Minoxidil post-op on the newly transplanted hair?

Does Minoxidil really do anything to speed the growth of the new transplanted hair?

It seems like half of the guys use this and half do not.

Thank you.

You can use minoxidil after a hair transplant surgery, but there is no conclusive proof that it will speed the growth of the newly transplanted hair. In the end, if your hair transplant was a success your hair will grow with or without minoxidil.

Where Can I Meet Someone Who Had Hair Transplants and Achieved a Full Looking Head of Hair?

It is important for me to not only see some men who have had a full head of hair created by hair transplants, but to talk to them so that I can understand their decision process and what the experience was like. Looking at pictures is a sterile, non-personal process.

The appearance of a thick head of hair is achievable with hair transplants. To manage people who have your needs, we have a series of men who regularly attend our monthly Open House events who have achieved this goal and can be met at my office. We have been doing this for 27 years. Spontaneous visits by many of my other patients repay their experience in such meeting by dropping into our monthly Open House events, unannounced. We have an office in West Los Angeles and Irvine, California. We hold these events once a month in Los Angeles, and once every other month in Irvine. In addition to meeting patients, you can see a surgery in process, speak with patients who are in the process of having it done, see a Scalp Micropigmentation procedure being done.

Using the Restroom During the Hair Transplant Procedure

Hi Dr Rassman,

I am a male and recently discovered i have interstitial cystitis. Am using minoxidil but cannot take finasteride anymore. So my questions is the following: During a HT session and when one is awake is it possible to do the procedure on someone who would have to use the restroom or are there ways to work around it?

Our patients have a private restroom available to them right outside the operating room next to where the transplant is done. Getting up during the surgery to use the facilities (as long as you let us know and don’t just jump up from the chair) is not a problem.

Haircheck and Density

I have been doing some research regarding scalp hair density. Currently, hair transplant doctors use Haircheck device to observe changes in density as well as caliber in comparison to the donor (control). Most doctors say haircheck numbers should be exactly the same at various points of the scalp for a nonbalding male. After doing some light research, I learned that you are born with a finite amount of hair follicles, and never develop any more hair follicles.

In my theory, and please correct me if I’m wrong, for your hmi number from haircheck to be exactly the same at all points of your scalp, your head would have to grow perfectly symmetrical to the way it was shaped at birth. If your head grows more in length than width, this would create a slight variation of the top of the scalp vs the donor area, as it is stretch further. What are your thoughts? I have to say from reading your blog you seem to be the most down to earth, a straight shooter in the industry.

The Haircheck measurements are a mechanical measurement which is slightly error-prone. I generally take 10% variation of the measurements in consideration as I use the instrument. Still, a 10% error rate is acceptable, but I do believe that hair is uniformly spread around the scalp.

Very Early Balding

I have a doubt. I am 20 and my hair was fine until now,but I feel that my hair is not that dense as it was when I was 10 or 12. Although my hairline is not receded, my dad is bald. Is this a sign of balding or it is natural for eveyone. Also I shampoo my hair once every 3 days with a mild shampoo. Does this have any effect?

A good thorough examination of your scalp with high magnification may show if the early signs of balding have begun. If they have, preventative treatment with Propecia may be indicated. There is no certainty that you will follow your father’s hair loss pattern, but it is a good idea to keep a close eye on it with a good doctor advising you. Shampooing once every three days, once a day, several times per day, or once a year will probably not impact your balding pattern.

Hairline is too straight and donor area patchy

I don’t believe that this man who thought he had good work done will be happy with these results. His hairline is straight (no hairline is straight) and the donor area has a large number of patchy areas reflective of a surgeon who used a large punch to perform the FUE. This is a post-operative photo (possibly 1-2 weeks after the surgery) with a lot of scabs sill on the recipient area. The man posted this photo on a forum, but he was proud of it. Detectable hair transplants are never good and this man shows the transplant with an abnormal perfectly straight frontal hairline with straight temple peaks and a see-through donor area from possibly too many FUEs taken for harvesting his donor area. It would have been nice if this man posted a better photo.

A Video from Reddit That Shows the Hair System (Wig) Maintenance, Washing and Care Every 2 Weeks

This is an alternative to hair transplants for many men who can’t afford a hair transplant surgery. However, the on-going costs or service and replacement can exceed the cost of a hair transplant over 5+ years. Education is the key to understanding everything and any alternatives available for the balding male.
