How Long Can You Realistically Delay Hair Loss?

Delaying hair loss depends upon (1) the types of genetic hair loss you have inherited, (2) its overall aggressiveness, (3) your ability to get good responses to drugs like minoxidil or finasteride. The drug finasteride can be very effective in delaying hairloss providing that the genes are not very aggressive.

When Will I See Propecia Benefits… and Does Showering Cause Hair Loss?

hi dr Rassman,

i have a few questions i havent seen an answer to on here,

  1. how long does it take to see results from propecia? is 6 months the normal time it takes or can it take longer?
  2. when do u think cloning will be made available to the public? ( i know there is no way to tell)
  3. i used to spray rogain 5% on my hairline, however around 2 weeks back i switched and started using a dropper which probably meant im putting on my minoxidil than when i was using a
sprayer, the areas i have been applying it to have thinned out, could this be because im using more minox now with the dropper?
  4. Does showering everyday cause or worsen hairloss? what temperature is best?

thanks

  1. For Propecia results, I’d say 6-12 months. Benefits could be just halting the hair loss, not necessarily regrowth… so keep that in mind when you’re looking at results.
  2. Getting hair cloning to be effective and reliable is the first step. Making it available to the public is quite another. Maybe it’ll be ready in another decade or so, but nobody knows. I’m not sure how you haven’t seen me answer a question about hair cloning before. I’ve probably written the same thing over a dozen times already.
  3. Why did you switch from the Rogaine sprayer to the dropper? It could be that you’re not covering the same area. Using more minoxidil in the area shouldn’t cause hair loss, but using less might.
  4. Showering daily won’t cause hair loss, though if you’ve already got weak hair on its way out, be gentle to your hair when shampooing. Actually, you should be gentle regardless. Use whatever temperature is comfortable.

Will finasteride hold a long time?

In your long experience, have people who responded well to the drug initially maintain their growth over a long period of time, say over 10 years? Thank you

Most people often maintain the effects of the drug if they stay on it, but some lose the full effectiveness if the genetic hair loss accelerates or they stop the drug.

Which Herbal Hair Oil Should I Use?

I am losing my hair. Which is better hair product of trichup?
1.- complete hair oil
2.- hair fall control oil

can i get my losing hair back?

3. None of the above.

I don’t know anything about you, but these magic oils don’t regrow your hair if you are losing hair from genetic causes. If you are serious about treating your hair loss, see a doctor who can map your scalp for miniaturization and analyze your hair bulk. Treating yourself with these ayurvedic tonics are almost surely going to leave you disappointed.

Why Am I Losing My Eyebrows and Eyelashes?

Hello,
Can Androgenic Miniaturization occur in the eyebrows and eyelashes. I hear many reports that hair loss in these areas must be something else. I have exhausted all other possibilities; hormone checks, diet, fitness training, you name it. The hairs fell out in unison and the ones that grew back grew in thin and fragile. Could you tell me if Telogen Effluvium can present with the loss if thick hairs being replaced with thin (shaft diameter) slow growing hairs

I don’t know much about you and I obviously cannot diagnose your condition, but telogen effluvium can causes eyebrow loss in some cases. Some people just lose the outer 1/3 of their eyebrows as they age. If you have exhausted all possibilities and ruled out all medical issues, eyebrow hair transplantation may be an option. Have you seen a doctor?

How many grafts do I need? (photo)

If your goal is to transplant only the crown and the small area in front of it, the number of grafts will vary with the thickness of your hair (Fine, Medium or Course). Fine hair might take as many as 3000 grafts, while Coarse hair might take as few as 1800 grafts. That is not addressing your frontal recession which is suggestive in this photo

Why Can’t You Name Those Unethical Physicians?

In response to Areas of Unethical Behavior Practiced Today:

“I ask you to consider your obligation under our oaths and our respective state medical board license agencies to report these doctors.”

Why not name the unethical physicians here then, so that would-be victims can be warned ? How else are patients supposed to find out, if not from web pages like this one ? I understand the fear of libel, but is that more important than the obligation under oath referred to above?

This isn’t the 1950s Hollywood blacklist and I can not go around identifying various surgeons without them bringing on legal actions against me. While you might think it is a noble thing to do, such actions could consume all of my finances and my time and I could live in the courts rather than do surgery. I have written to the Medical Board of California whenever I’ve identified a sleazy practice for California based physicians. The State of California is good at follow-through. If the sleazy doctor is located in another state, it may not be that simple. California will always create an investigation if they receive a complaint from either another doctor or a patient who has been wronged, but some of these sleazy doctors work outside of the United States and that produces even more problems for patients who have been victimized.

If you follow my instructions on how to pick a hair transplant surgeon, you can avoid the traps and not become a victim. You need to be an educated buyer in any medical treatment. Health care, like cosmetic surgery, is a buyer beware market!

I would be greatly concerned if you went to Turkey for most of the ordinary clinics there. They may fill up your crown with most of your donor hair, so when you lose the frontal hair you presently have (a considerable amount), you may not have hair left to transplant. This is primarily a concern if you are under 25 years of age. See a good doctor and find out what your donor supply is, what your hair thickness is, and what hair loss pattern you may likely develop. Would you go to Turkey for a brain surgery?

Also, many young men can reverse this with medications alone. Finasteride is usually very effective in this type of thinning. Add microneedling, and you might find that you avoided a hair transplant altogether.

Why do miniaturized hairs lose color?

I still have a full crown hair wise but you can clearly see the skin, the hairs are transparent, they have basically no pigmentation and that’s why it looks very thinning. What is the underlying science behind loss of pigmentation in AA? I couldn’t find any studies on the web

Miniaturized hairs often lose pigment and color because the hair follicle production is impaired and continues to get worse as the process progresses. As the hairs get thinner and thinner, they contain less pigment and eventually become clear (see-through) as the pigment cells in these hairs die. These hairs also often stop growing before eventually falling out completely.
