Actor Jason Alexander (George Costanza from Seinfeld) recently acknowledged that it was a hair piece he wore to this event. We see that the result looks good and some might even say he looks younger.

One has to wonder if he considered going the permanent route with a hair transplant… or whether he would even be a good candidate for one. It’s possible that he could get good results if his hair thickness was not fine, if his hair density was at least average, and if he would be committed to following through to the completion of the process.

There’s a tremendous amount of upkeep involved with hair pieces, and since he’s well known for his bald appearance, perhaps he wanted to just go for temporary shock value by appearing with a full head of hair.

22 Year Old Male Taking Avodart

hi ive been reading your forum all morning, and im really impressed by the site, if you replied to me it would be greatly appreciated. im a male 22 yrs old. and have been takin avodart for 4 months,my hairline is slightly receiding on the side but the front of my hair is at the right height my problem is my hair seems to grow longer, but continurs to thin. on the top. will avodart cause my hair to shed then grow back thicker? or will once its fallen out will it never grow back?? thanx 4 any response.

It is my general opinion that you should not be taking Avodart (dutasteride). It is a powerful medication with a very long half life in the order of weeks/months (half life is the time it takes for a drug to be out of your blood stream). It is not approved or indicated for male pattern hair loss and more importantly, it has not been studied on young men who may potentially (intentionally or unintentionally) be fathers.

If a doctor prescribed you Avodart, you should discuss these matters with him/her.

With respect to growth and shedding, there is no way to tell or predict your rate of hair loss or the contributions of shedding as a cause of it (I suspect shedding is rare). At the least you may want a baseline study, so I would suggest that you map your scalp for density and miniaturization to objectively record the hair loss/gain.

In the News – NFL Star Wes Welker Got a Hair Transplant

New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker has had a hair transplant and will appear in ads for the Rhode Island doctor who performed it.

Welker had the procedure done in Cranston this month during a five-hour session. It involved transplanting follicles to the parts of Welker’s scalp where his hair had begun thinning.

I had 2300 FUE grafts 12 months ago, will it ever grow?

This is a failure of the transplant unless your surgeon placed far less than the 2200 grafts you reported. I would go back to have a frank discussion with your surgeon as you paid good money to have this done. The most frequent reasons for hair transplant failure, is some technical glitch or lack of experience by the surgeon and/or his team!

In the News – Sexual Assault is Not a Natural Hair Loss Treatment

An “alternative doctor” who sexually assaulted a female reporter seeking a cure for hair loss has been jailed for nine months.

Chan Tung-choi, a practitioner of natural therapy, yelled he was innocent as he was led away from Eastern Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Chan, 68, who denied four counts of indecent assault, was found guilty by Magistrate So Wai-tak. He said he would appeal. Earlier, the court heard how Chan fondled the private parts and breasts of a 28-year-old online journalist, who cannot be named, between late 2005 and October 2006 at his Sheung Wan clinic.

He told her such actions would help make her hair grow.

I am 27 and have been using Propecia for 3 years but my crown is still thin. What can I do?

If the finasteride has not solved the problem by this time in your crown and you have some hair present you have three options.
1- Do nothing and live with it
2- Get a hair transplant which may solve the problem as that is what I did. My bald crown is now full looking
3- Get Scalp Micropigmentation which will make your thin crown look full as shown in this website photo below (click image to enlarge)

In the News – Teenager with Alopecia Traveling to Great Wall of China to Raise Awareness

A teenage alopecia sufferer from Northamptonshire will complete a trek of The Great Wall of China to raise awareness about the condition.

Alice Frost, aged 16, of Denton, has been suffering from the condition, which causes severe hair loss, for about three years. She will take on the nine-day expedition with her 18-year-old sister, Sally, in September, and the pair hope to raise £7,200 for the trek and for the Alopecia UK charity.

Alice first lost a large amount of her hair while on a school trip to China and she said the expedition would take her back to a fitting place.

The article wasn’t clear on what kind of alopecia she has, but it appears to be totalis or possibly universalis. I congratulate young Ms. Frost on her courage and her desire to raise awareness.

3 Months After My Hair Transplant, A Bald Spot Appeared Between the Crown and Donor Area

I find your website informative

Here is my scenario. My surgeon is on holidays for two weeks. I had a scar revision and small graft session into the crown 600 grafts.

About three months after the procedure………I developed a small bald spot (size of a penny) about an inch below the crown diagonally betwween where the grafts were put and a few inches above the actual donor scar line. It was native high density hair.

The area in question is still very numb and tender. I all of a sudden developed a thick scab…………it came off with a bunch of hair and it is very pink skin below and a bit rough in texture and completely devoid in hair.

I have put emu oil on it for the time being……..

1. What do you think it is
2. Will the hair grow back
