Can Propecia Just Stop Working Abruptly?

I have a quick question. I apologize in advance if you have already answered it as I tried searching. I am 30 yrs old and I have been using Propecia for almost 1.5 years. When I started it worked great, within a few months it stopped hair loss and I even noticed a bit of regrowth on the temples. Recently I got a hair cut and noticed that my hair is thinning again. And I have started to see my scalp.
My question is that is it possible for Propecia to stop working abruptly ? If yes should I consult my doctor again for options ? or is this the end of the line.
Also I might add that there has been added stress in my life recently do you think that this maybe a temporary thing where the effectiveness of propecia may bounce back ?

Hair loss can be a very subjective thing. Just to look at your hair and to judge how thick or thin it is can depend on lighting and perspective. It also depends on your hair cut. I would think that getting your hair cut short would make one’s hair look thinner (more light allowed to the scalp) anyway. Besides that… Propecia does not just stop working. Hair grows in cycles, so I would think when hair is actively in a shedding cycle, the impact of Propecia may be lessened – albeit this is somewhat of a stretch.
The best advice I can give you is to stay on the drug even if you think it is less effective. But in any case, talk to your prescribing doctor.

The paper is interesting. Many people pre test platelet counts and then do platelet counts on the PRP obtained after it is spun down. If one were to take an average of perhaps 130cc of blood and spin it down, they would wind up with usually 6 or so cc of PRP. Platelet counts are usually 4-8 times the original platelet count. Sometimes maybe as high 10x the platelet count. These numbers may not correlate. I would want to know how many cc of prp did they get and did they dilute that with each patient. It is not clear why they compared different platelet concentrations for hair growth from the data presented here as these conclusions are not statistically significant based upon the data collected. There are no controls used in this study which by itself, disclaims many of the validity of the claims. I still remain skeptical

Can Rogaine or Propecia Change Hair Character?
Hello, Dr. Rassman…
I am curious about Propecia and/or Rogaine. Do these medications change the CHARACTER of your hair over time? In other words, do they make for healthier hair in general? You know, thicker, fuller, more lustrous? I have noticed as I have entered my early 40’s that my hair seems to be finer and drier than it used to be. I typically use product to add some lustre to it. Do thees medications help in that regard, or do they basically “freeze” the hair loss and the character of the hair remains the same?

Propecia works on the miniaturized hairs, thickening them. That will change the character of the hair, making it look more like it did before the impact of genetic balding that caused the miniaturization in the first place. Many people who take Rogaine report similar results. This is all good.

Nipple soreness on finasteride that went away in two weeks
Nipple soreness on Finasteride, quitting because of this, likely Gynecomastia and I don’t want that… is there anything else I can do? from tressless
If the nipple soreness went away, I doubt that gynecomastia will follow. Symptoms like this that come on, often disappear permanently once you maintain the drug. You might try to continue with the finasteride and see what happens or just speak with your doctor

I really don’t know the answer to this question, but I would think that the answer is probably “no”. I believe a apoptosis (cell death) is a genetically triggered event.

Can Transplanted Hair Be Re-Transplanted if I Continue to See Thinning?
I am a 24 year old male who has somewhat of a receding hairline like my father who has the same hairline I have, but he is 57 years old. While he has maintained his hairline, the hair on the top of his head is noticeably thinner than on the sides.
What if I had a transplant primarily to the front of the scalp and then continued to thin elsewhere on my head. Since the hair in a transplant will not thin like the rest of the scalp as one ages, my question is can the transplanted hair be thinned out or even removed to blend better with the rest of the scalp?
I wouldn’t recommend it, but I suppose what you’re asking can be done theoretically. However, if you have a good Master Plan and a good surgeon, you should be able to plan out how to address your hair needs now so that it doesn’t look bad even 50 years from now if you continue to thin.
Overall, I think you are missing the point… which is that you need to see a good surgeon (face to face) for an examination and a specific consultation for the planning of your individual needs.

Yes, there is far more patchiness than I would expect to see. This was caused either by donor over-harvesting or vascular complications of the donor area which may reverse within 6 months of the surgery, so by that time you will know more. I also noticed that the grafts were harvested very high and also too low, probably outside the permanent zone. If you should develop any advanced balding, these grafts may not be permanent.
