This worried me as I have read that most people who complain about their penis size, find that it shrinks on Finasteride. I believe from what I read that some people get an increased testosterone level when they take Finasteride. I don’t really understand the complaints that some men’s penises have gotten smaller as mine got bigger. I am now 35 year old so changes in my overall hormone balance have been stable.

You are correct that it does seem some people complain that their penis is getting smaller on Finaseride, although there is nothing to support this claim in the medical literature. Your complaint is again unique. I can’t explain either complaint.

Greasy scalp/itch and MPB. Are these all connected?

I went to see a trichologist recently who told me that she could see plenty of miniaturised hairs at my crown. She also commented on how greasy my scalp was and said that this was linked with my hair thinning and the itchiness which i’d reported was probably also to do with this grease.

Can you confirm if this is true? My hair is itching/greasier again this week and I notice that I do have more hair fall when it gets like this.

Male pattern balding is a genetic trait. Greasy scalp is just a greasy scalp (unless there is a genetic cause of excess sebum production from the hair follicles of the scalp). People who have a full head of hair can have a greasy scalp. Same goes for an itchy scalp. There can be numerous reasons for this, such as dryness, dandruff, hair products, lice, poor hygiene, etc.

I do not believe genetic hair loss, greasy scalp, and itchy scalp are connected. In my opinion, it is a old wives’ tale. If you’re scratching your head and pulling your hair out because of it, that might explain the thinning. Otherwise, I don’t know of a proven correlation.

Body hair can be used but each body hair part has different characteristics that you must be aware of, particularly growth cycle. Beard hair is similar to scalp hair in its growth cycle with a long Anagen phase and a short telogen phase. It is, however, more curly and course possibly than your scalp hair. Arm, chest, and leg hair has a very short Anagen phase and a long telogen phase which means that much of the hair will not grow longer than 6-8 months and ‘sleep’ for 5-6 months so its value will be less in terms of length. These hairs are also finer and often do not have the appearance of normal scalp hair when they grow out. ?Pubic hair of course looks like pubic hair but works well as does underarm hair with its sweat glands.

Hi there. I have always had a low density of hair around the top part of my scalp since my early teens however I have recently become much more conscious about it. For example after a shower my scalp is quite visible on the top part of my scalp and also when i part my hair when it is dry i can see through it under bright light. I have not undergone any considerable amounts hairloss nor have undergone any noticeable thinning of my hair but simply just feel that my scalp is quite visible on all parts of my top scalp. At a closer look its quite easy to see that my individual hairs are quite equally spaced out and is the main reason why i can see my scalp under the light. I am wondering whether this could just be my natural hair density that i have inherited from my mum (who also has a similar issue) or an early sign of male pattern baldness from my father’s side. If your hair is wet it will obviously look thinner as your hairs are separated from each other to expose the scalp. When you’re under a bright light it also will look thinner as the light illuminates your scalp between the hairs. This should be common sense.

I have about £2 to 3000 to spend and I thought it might be worth investing in a new head of hair. I’m 27 and rapidly losing hair. I’m comfortable with a shaved head but I actually would like the option of growing it out. Are there any clinics or websites that people recommend? I know going to Turkey is much cheaper but will that mean compromising on quality? Will I be able to shave my head in the interim period where my hair is going to be growing out? I actually applied to qunomedical but I was put off a bit with how much they whatsapped and called. I felt they were trying to pressure me when I just wanted the time to think about it as it’s quite a substantial investment.

Patient reports: I believe that I was a victim of hair loss in the few months that I was given Oxycodone/Norco medication for my back pain. My hair has not grown back.

It is not generally believed that these two medications can cause hair loss; nevertheless, with your comments as well as a few similar comments on a recent Google search (I suspect like all medications), hair loss is always a risk, even if it is a small risk.
