Started fin 14 months ago to maintain my hairline, but the crown has gone from zero thinning to a rats nest in that time, and I got to think about the next step here. My hairline is still rather acceptable for my age, so why not do a dense pack transplant on the hairline to bring me to a thick NW1, then just use a system for the crown? Won’t the Hair System last much longer be cheaper and be way easier maintenance?

I have done these combinations of hair transplants in the front and a hair system behind it. Most men end up getting a hair transplant once they see the value and the natural results from it. Hair systems are very expensive over time, far more than a hair transplant.

Hair follicles have a biologic clock that kicks in Apoptosis (cell death) in those men who have the genes for balding. I have seen young men (not common) rapidly lose their hair and develop a Class 7 pattern by the time they were 20. Statistically, that is probably not you unless you take after a father who was one of those rare men when he was young. Frequent masturbation has nothing to do with hair loss

This man’s photos shows two problems. (1) above the scar, there are areas of balding which indicate that the scar will become obvious, and (2) the stitches were placed far back creating a railroad pattern which will (a) cause hair loss and )b) probably keep elements of this scar. This man will need a hair transplant to fix this once it is healed. Why would any man do this when a hair transplant alone would have solved his hairline recession?

This spider is also called the Brown Recluse Spider. It often hides in boxes that you store away the the basement. This bite can cause you to lose an arm or leg. The picture shows what the bite looked like and what the spider looks like. My wife saw the spider land on me one day (she has a photographic memory and acute vision) and tried to tell me before I wiped it off of my arm. Too late, the spider bit me and in a day my arm swelled but I did not get the necrosis shown on the picture on the left so I did not need surgical excision of the bite venom. This is a dangerous bite, but other than swelling and a fever, I did OK but it caused pain for about 3 days and it took a week for the swelling to go away. Some people have been known to die or lose an arm or leg from such a spider bit. This happened to me in Los Angeles, California but the spider is wide spread in the United States. The patient in the photo shows that a surgeon removed the area of the bite because the skin died (necrosis) and this surgery was needed.

When I teach doctors how to do a hair transplant, I always discuss randomness for graft placement. The doctor generally fights his tendencies for orderliness and orderliness means alignment of the grafts in columns or rows, not normal as you can see. When the hair grows, it will show the orderliness when you look carefully at it. Also, note the picket fence hairline, which again is not normal. As this man already has hair, these issues may not bother him, but it bothers my aesthetic sense of things.

I’m a 20 year old male concerned about possible hair loss. Baldness does not run in my family, as my dad is 50 years old and has not lost any hair, and my grandpa is 75 and is just now getting a bald spot. My hair is naturally thick, but recently I’ve felt that my right edge (possibly thinning) and front part of my hairline has changed shape. Is this a sign of a receding hairline, or is it maturing? If so, should I see a doctor for a Finasteride prescription? I don’t think Minoxidil works on the temple area, so I won’t bother trying.

You are probably developing a maturing hairline as you still have a juvenile hairline present. This usually occurs between the age of 17-29 in men. Finasteride is not going to impact your transition to a mature hairline.
