Could sleek, shiny hair be just a shampoo away? “So smooth so sleek…” Commercials for the Suave Infusion 30 day keratin infusion kit promises that quick transformation.

“What I got was the exact opposite of that,” said Tanya Millet, who claims the product damaged her scalp. But, Millet says her results were disastrous. “I just sat in the bathroom and cried and thought what am I going to do now?” Millet said. Millet says she bought the treatment at a local retailer, hoping it would prevent frizz on an island vacation. Instead she ended up making an emergency call to her stylist.

“And she said to me ‘I don’t know how to tell you this but your hair is chemically melted’” Millet said.

22 year old male lost hair on Creatine in just 3 months, will it come back?

I’m Male, 22 and had been using creatine for 3 months. I noticed my hair shedding and have been off it for around a month. However the hairfall has not stopped and my scalp still scratches. Any idea how I can reverse this damage? How long till my hair stops shedding? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

In the News – Newspaper Suggests Cayenne Pepper and Vodka Can Regrow Hair

Q. My beautician told me to add 8 ounces of vodka to a whole can of cayenne pepper, let it sit overnight, strain and apply it to the top of my scalp with a cotton swab to counteract hair loss. Does this work, or will it cause more hair loss?

A. Our first impulse was to discredit such a remedy. We feared that the ingredient in hot peppers, capsaicin, might be too irritating.

To our surprise, however, we discovered an article in Current Medicinal Chemistry (No. 29, December 2008) reporting that capsaicin can stimulate growth factors in the hair follicles of mice and in human volunteers with hair loss.

This was from a Q&A section that is syndicated to a bunch of different newspapers, but it’s not like they finally revealed the secrets we have held back from the public. The article they reference has no information about the human volunteers, nor does their response even mention the vodka that was part of the original question.

Cayenne and vodka will not regrow your hair, alone or combined.

23 years old, losing ground after 2.5 years on fin and minox. Next steps?

Struggled with aggressive hair loss since 19. Started the Big 3 in August 2016, and was a great responder after the initial 3 months shedding. After 2 years of being a thick NW2.5, in August 2018, I had a relatively big shed and expected this to grow back, but it didn’t. Instead I’ve seen my hair gradually thin out to baseline, and in the last couple of months below baseline. I’m currently a NW3 diffuse thinner, scalp just becoming visible under direct light when my hair is dry.

Would really appreciate advice for my next steps. Would getting my DHT level tested confirm whether fin has lost its effectiveness? If so, can anyone testify for gradually phasing dut into my regime until it replaces fin? Apart from slight loss of libido, I haven’t experienced sides on fin, but I am still afraid of starting dut at such a young age given the increased risk of problems.

The single best way to understand what is happening to you, is to build a Master Plan with a good doctor who specializes in hair loss. That doctor should start by establishing a base line with a HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-and-what-its-value/) , and then try various treatment modalities on your to find out what works bests. HAIRCHECK test follow-ups yearly tell how effective the treatments are. Eventually, some people can’t control the hair loss and end up as hair transplant candidates. In the News – Scottish Brothers Have Hair Transplants on The Same Day

BALDING brothers Barry and Brian Cowan have gone back to their roots to save their careers. Barry — lead guitarist with Scots indie band Vigo Thieves — and male model Brian were horrified when they began losing their hair. So the boys, from Wishaw in Lanarkshire, decided to do something about it. They discovered a revolutionary new transplant treatment on offer for the first time in Scotland.

Yesterday, at The Glasgow Clinic in the city centre, the brothers had around 5,000 hair follicles transplanted from thicker hair at the back of their heads to the thinning top and crown.

I guess this was news because it hadn’t happened in Scotland before, but we have had many dual procedures where brothers go at a transplant on the same day, even some sets of twins. We have had father and son transplants on the same day as well. This produces great spirit and brings our staff together in great joy.

In the News – Taking Tylenol for 5 Years Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk?

TylenolPop a Tylenol and take a brisk walk for protection against prostate cancer? That’s what the findings of two new studies published this week suggest.

In the first study, published Monday in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, scientists found that men who took a daily dose of acetaminophen (Tylenol) for five years had a 38% lower risk of developing prostate cancer, compared with other men. Additionally, daily acetaminophen was associated with a 51% reduced risk of developing an aggressive form of the disease. Men who took acetaminophen for less than five years saw no protective benefit.

This as an observational study of over 78,000 men, and while nothing is definitively proven here, the findings are interesting.

So why post this kind of health stuff on a hair loss blog? The majority of the readers here are men, and as the article points out: “Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men“.

3 Months After My FUE Procedure, I Still Have Hairs That Didn’t Shed but Refuse to Grow

Dr. Rassman,

I am almost 3 months post surgery (FUE) having had about 2300 grafts with a skilled and well respected surgeon.

I have a number of transplanted hairs in the front of my scalp that have not shed nor have they grown. I scrub them, and nothing. They remain. I have a few rogue hairs that did start to grow (very few, maybe 5-10) without having fallen out post op, but moreso, a couple hundred perhaps, that are just like beard stubble, and wont fall out nor are they growing.

Can you shed (no pun intended) some light as to what may be going on, what the effect of this may be, either negative or positive, and contribute any other thoughts to this as I am not panicking, but as the weeks roll by, I am growing more and more concerned.

As an aside, at nearly 11 weeks, there is no other new growth yet beginning, which I understand is not abnormal.

This can be all normal for the course. Hairs that remain are leftover from the old grafts and they can be identified by a slight pull with tweezers. They will come out or you can just leave them alone. I see this on occasion after a hair transplant.

With regard to the growth, wait it out. Don’t panic — if a good surgeon did it, then the results will be apparent starting at 5-6 months.

Inconsistent minoxidil use

Been on minoxidil 5% only . Haven’t been consistent with the treatment

You clearly understand that consistency is critical. Low dose oral minoxidil is better than topical minoxidil as only 40% of men respond to the topical. Oral is also easier.
