Can I ever go back to my old look? (from Reddit with photo)

Yes this can be done. We do this all of the time. You must be over 25 and have a HAIRCHECK test to be sure that you know what your potential balding pattern will be so that when it is fixed, it will be part of your Master Plan for future balding if that is what is going to happen to you. The HAIRCHECK test at 25 will give you are a reasonable assessment of this possibility and allow you to go about this reconstruction with the power of knowledge.

My Hair Falls Out In The Same Months Each Year

My hair seems to fall out every year and then it grows back. I can comb my hair and the comb is full of hair. Right know my hair is falling out and I noticed a bald spot on the left side of my head. I read so of the other people’s concerns and you stated that your hair don’t fall out year to year. In my case it does I wrote it down and it always happen in Feb-April each year. Please tell me what I can do about this.

I would want to know if you are using a tight hat or if you have done anything different during this time period that might cause the hair loss you see. Normally, humans have asynchronous hair cycling, which means that we lose on average 100 hairs per day and regrow the same numbers of hairs. In a 3 1/2 year hair cycle, the entire 100,000 hairs will replace themselves.

Some doctors think that humans may have more hair loss in the spring and less during the winter when it is colder, but frankly, I don’t believe anyone really knows. I can not explain your problem, but if the hair did not come back on schedule, I would be more than concerned.

Can finasteride maintain minoxidil hair?

After stopping minoxidil, have u seen a story where someone maintained these hairs with finasteride?

If the hairs that grew are minoxidil induced, then they are minoxidil dependent hairs that will disappear when stopping minoxidil. Finasteride will not hold those minoxidil dependent hairs.

My Hair Looks the Same 9 Months After Starting Propecia!

I’m 9 1/2 months into Propecia 1mg a day treatment and everything is about the same since I started. I’m currently a NW2 but under miniaturization I have a NW3 with mid anterior thinning. Right now I have early frontal loss all I needed is thickening of miniaturized hairs and that would give me a way fuller look. I’m 22 1/2 year old guy and started Propecia only like 4 months or so after I noticed I’m losing hair so I would be a candidate for reversal but now it looks slim because I’m close to hit that 1 year mark! Is there a still a chance? The reason I want to have those hairs thicken because I’m very worried if Propecia would lose effectiveness and MPB will start again those hairs will be gone before I know it but if they would thickened up I could at least spot it that I’m losing hair again and do something about it and also I want to do different hairstyles!

Sorry to break this to you, but there is no cure for male pattern baldness (MPB) and no guarantee that Propecia will work on you. There’s a new genetic test to determine if finasteride (Propecia) will be of benefit to you — HairDX Tests for Finasteride Response.

Propecia does work, but it is not the cure and will not completely stop hair loss. The drug very rarely reverses hair loss in the frontal area, but you should be able to retain the hair you had (which is what it sounds like it’s doing if you say everything is the same 9 months later). You need to sit down with your prescribing doctor and have a discussion on realistic expectations.

Can Hair Cloning Get FDA Fast Track to Speed Things Up? It Would Be an Autologous Transplant.

Not happening. Cloning has a history, and when used in mice they died back in the early 1990s. These hairs were cloned in a petri dish and placed into hairless mice. The hairs grew in all directions, many ingrown, causing infections that killed the mice.

My Hair Regrows When I Leave the US — Hair Loss Returns When I Am in the US

Hi,

I am in US for last 10 yrs. My hair is thinning along the center partition on top of my head. This happened since I have been living in US. When I went to my country for an year two years back, I felt my hair regrowing and getting better. Please suggest the cause and treatment for this. also I feel some scalp pain all along the portion where I am experiencing the hair thinning.

Thanks

Environmental factors can accelerate the hair loss. Your case is rather unusual and interesting. Stress can activate or accelerate hair loss/thinning. Ask yourself if living in America is more stressful. Diet is another important variable that is different in different countries. Lack of certain elements in your diet can cause hair loss, but that would take an extensive analysis to understand what you are eating in and out of the US and how they compare. There are also certain food ingredients in certain geographic areas that may help hair growth (maybe you have some cure to hair loss from your native country in the foods you eat there). Look back and see what you have done and eaten during the time you have been away that affected your hair loss and you may reverse-engineer it and come up with a new solution that we can all talk about.

Can Happiness Levels Have Anything to Do with Hair Loss?

Dear Dr Rassman

I am a 19 year old who has had temple recession since the age of 17. I am a norwood 3 with a strong window peak (My right temple has a larger bald surface area than the left). I have the following questions.

1) Do happiness and relaxation levels have anything to do with triggering hair loss?

2) I am very conscious of my hair thinning, and sometimes have slight sensations in my head when I think my hair line is receding, is this possible or could this all be triggered by anxiety?

3) My hair line is definitely not symmetrical. If someones balding is only a norwood 3 and not higher, does it have to be symmetrical, or can people stabilize at norwood 3 have unsymmetrical hair lines for the rest of their lives?

thank you for your help

Stress is a cause of hair loss. So if you’re stressed, you’re not going to be relaxed. In that sense, they are related. As for the sensations you feel at your hairline, I’d guess it was probably anxiety.

The fact that your hairline is asymmetrical indicates that the lower side will rise to the level of the higher side eventually. The higher side may also rise.

My Hairline is Great But My Doctor Sees Thinning on Top

Hello, doctor. My hairline is only a Norwood 1.5. But I have recently found out that the top of my head is thinning. It isn’t that noticeable. Meaning only the doctor could see it. Not my friends, family etc. The only one I know in my family who was bald was my great-grandfather. All my other male relatives have a great head of hair. Does my thinning on top mean i will eventually go totally bald or could this be as worse as it gets? Should I start rogaine?

If your thinning isn’t noticeable, what is your doctor doing differently to see it? Is he/she using miniaturization mapping or measuring your hair bulk?

I have no way to know if your loss will get worse and eventually lead to you being totally bald. It’s not quite as simple as that. Similarly, I have no way to know if you should be on Rogaine or any other treatment.

Can I Even Out My Widow’s Peak?

Ok, I’m a 20 year old male, and I was born with a widows peek. Is there anything that can be done, to like, normal that out. I have never had hair on that part of my head and it’s beyond embaressing.

Norwood Class 4AIt is generally not a great idea to transplant hair into a non-balding 20 year old, because you must take into account the possibility that you might bald as you get older. Imagine that you got the right side evened out and then began balding to a Class 4A pattern. You would have a wing of hair where the transplant was done and then be bald to the Class 4A pattern.

You need to accept the premise that if you bald and have the frontal line fixed to your liking and desires, that you will be committed to transplanting behind it if you should lose the hair behind it so you will not look freakish.

My liver enzymes are elevated and I am taking finasteride, are these two connected?

I’ve been using topical finasteride (Morr-F) for a period of about 8 months. 2 months ago, I had a blood test for a physical examination. Everything was fine, except that I showed elevated liver enzymes (ALT/AST) and just barely met the criteria for prediabetic fasting blood sugar. I repeated the test last week and my ALT/AST were even worse.

I’m a healthy male who doesn’t drink often at all (sometimes no drinks in a month, never more than 5 in a month). I exercise regularly, have no history of diabetes in my family, and eat an ovo-vegetarian diet with adequate protein for resistance training. I’ve recently found studies indicating that 5-AR inhibitors have been shown to interfere with liver function, elevating liver enzymes and interfering with glucose metabolism.

Don’t be your own doctor and get professional advice as finasteride will not cause liver enzyme elevation.
