Would You Try The 0.3mm FUE Punch?

Hey doc. I’m just wondering something. Since you’re willing to trial the laser hat technology would you also be willing to try out Dr Gho’s smaller 0.3m FUE punch.

I don’t really care about the supposed hair multiplication stuff that he claims but I am really interested in the size of his punch. And I am interested in the size of his punch because cosmetically speaking its really hard to see any white dot scaring on any of his patients.

Lots of people on various forums are showing really good photographic evidence of what I would simply call really really really refined FUE. The proof does seem to be out there and since I know for a fact you fight for the balding brothers would you be willing to try that out on willing patients? in the name of science and progressing FUE technology.

Cheers!!

I assume you mean a 0.3mm punch, not 0.3m.

I am open to any innovation, but I am also a realist. Have you actually gotten out your microcaliper and measured what a 0.3mm diameter punch really looks like? It is smaller than a hair follicle, and smaller than a hypodermic 30 Gauge needle (OD). See the needle gauge comparison list here.

I Have Alopecia Totalis — Anything You Can Recommend, Either Clinical or Cosmetic?

I am 41 years old and a female. When i was 4yrs of age, i lost all my hair, including eyebrows, eyelashes, scalp and the nails on my fingers and toes. With homeopathy over a period of time, i regained my eyelashes, eyebrows, nails. With puberty, i grew hair in the correct places, normally. Just my scalp, arms and legs remain without hair till today.

I was diagnosed with Alopecia Totalis. I am happily married with a son also now. Do you have any hope for me,whatsoever? If not clinical, then
anything cosmetic that you can recommend for me which would be available in India?

Unfortunately, there is little anyone can offer for treating alopecia totalis. There are people with this disease where the gene runs in the family and the hair loss goes complete at the age of about 4. These conditions do not reverse.

You can visit the National Alopecia Areata Foundation site for support and the latest research.

I Have DUPA That Hasn’t Changed for 8 Years

Hello there Dr.Rassman

I’m a long time reader. basically since the age of 17 i have suffered from diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA) which I’m guessing i inherited from my mother basing on what her hair loss looks like. anyway I am now a 25 year old man and 8 years have passed since i initially noticed the entire scalp thinning including the permanent zone. i feel my DUPA has not been too aggressive as i still have pretty good coverage overall with slight recession. my question is will my hair loss be very gradual or will it speed up soon?

If it has been stable for the last 8 years, I do not see why it would not continue to be stable a lot longer. But I can not predict the future and the clinical course of patients with DUPA has been poorly documented.

As a professional who may be more aware of this condition than most doctors, I recognize my limitations in both treating it and predicting its course, as we know very little about DUPA. I have tried using finasteride on most of the men with DUPA, but the results are inclusive. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.

Young Man Will Rub Lard (Fat from Pig) onto the Scalp to See If He Will Grow More Hair (From Reddit)

I feel I must comment on your experiment. Yes, doctors do inject fat into the scalp, and yes, doctors do inject platelet rich plasm (PRP) into the scalp. But no, there is absolutely no evidence that either of these work to grow hair and applying it to your scalp will not get it inside of the scalp because the epidermis (a 1/2 mm thick and tough layer of the skin) protects the scalp largely from outside influences. So, although I wish you luck on your experiment, which I hope to see results here on Reddit in the future, I am not optimistic about it.

Lard Experiment – I will massage Lard into my scalp once per week for 6 months to see if I can grow hair in temples from tressless

I Have MPB and Saw My Hair Get Thinner When My Diet Was Poor

Hi Dr. Rassman,

I am 24 and I know I have MPB. However, I’ve been having a poor diet over the last 4-5 months, which I already stopped and started getting a proper diet. However, during those months I noticed my hair getting thinner.

My question is simple: with a proper diet will I have my hair as thick as it was before the poor diet began? I do not expect an exact answer of course but just an idea based on your experience.

Thanks

Poor dietWill your hair get as thick as it was before your bad food habits? Likely not. If you are sure you have genetic male pattern baldness (diagnosed by a doctor?), the poor diet might’ve exacerbated the hair loss. It could regrow somewhat, but I don’t know enough about your hair loss pattern or history to really speculate too much more.

You need to be seen by an expert, and you should consider getting on Propecia to slow down the loss if you are indeed experiencing MPB.

I have terrible scabs after my hair transplant. (photo)

These crusts should be allowed to shed with shampoo regularly, leaving the shampoo on the scalp for 10 minutes and then gently rubbing them until they come off. It may take a few days? but don’t push it. After 2 weeks, the risk of graft loss is minimal. Compare this man on the left 1 weeks from his surgery with the man on the right, just 3 days after surgery. The difference is good post-operative washing. The man on the right was our patient and nobody could tell he had a hair transplant done at any time so far, at least.

I just congratulated an older man on keeping all of his hair. He smiled and said, I have been on “Propecia” for years.

I saw him on my walk and I have no idea what came over me, but I just had to tell him that he had great hair. I’m shedding at 24, and this guy was well into his fifties with a full head of glorious hair.
This is not uncommon, but this may not be your story as everyone responds differently to this drug. The drug has only been out since 1997.

I Lost My Hair After Crash Diet

During period of two months October – December 2014 I lost 35 pounds, cca 15% of my total weight. I ate mainly vegetables, basically it was starvation and gym. At end of december noticed diffuse hair loss. Immediately normallized my eating pattern, went to dermatologist. Dermatologist ask for hair loss genetics and looked thru microscope. No signs of miniutarization, no vellus hairs and my hair genetics is perfect, no balding in my familly, I am 39 years old. 5 months after, there is no significant hair regrowth, and no further hair loss. What to expect, what will be real time frame for possible hair recovery? After hair loss I lost good amount of chest hair, could easily pull 70-80% of picked chest hairs, now it is ok..

Starvation like a crash diet and extreme work outs do not sound very healthy. It isn’t such a surprise you suffered some unintended consequence such as loss of your hair. I can’t tell you if your hair will grow back. Only time will tell.

I Overplucked My Eyebrows and Had Them Tattooed Back On, But Want a More Natural Look

I overplucked, then had to have them tattooed because they wouldn’t grow back. With the tattoing, of course, they didn’t regrow either. It’s been years and I would like a natural looking eyebrow, one that doesn’t fade and frames my face. What would you recommend?

Hair transplants into the eyebrows is the answer and it works wonderfully. Here’s an example of a female patient that had eyebrow restoration — Patient BG. For more info about eyebrow transplants, here’s an article from a few months back that I was quoted in — Women who pluck too much turn to eyebrow transplants.
