I tell men that if they get a hair system when they are young, the hair system attachments (glues, clips, etc..) cause loss of the hair on your scalp and you become more bald and more dependent upon the hair system. Hair transplants can solve the problem but the balder you get, the higher the costs so keep that in mind.

This man(in his mid-twenties has recent hair loss in the past 8 months prior to commencing treatment). He must have been very sensitive to the results of good DHT blocking with finasteride. Men like him are young and have more recent hair loss than those who do not respond. A great early result that will just get better in time.

I’m 7 Months Pregnant and Experiencing Hair Loss
Please help me – I’ve been suffering from hair shedding since Aug 2007. I was on the pill for 12 years and came off in august just after my wedding to conceive. I concieved straight away and am now 7 months pregnant. In Dec 2006, I was in hospital for a day with an infection which caused a hemorrhage. The shedding does seem to have slowed down now so losing about 25 after washes and I feel spiky bits all over my head. This has lasted about 7 months now and just wanted to know how long it usually last for and if it will stop? Will I ever get the thickness back in my hair?
I’m so depressed about this and would be grateful if you could help me. Thanks
You have many potential causes for hair loss, including:
- Pregnancy, which can cause hair loss that should reverse after about a year
- Changes in your hormones from the withdrawal of birth control pills
- Illness from the infection that put you into the hospital
It is likely that this process will reverse. You are not alone and the experience of others with this problem have been far from hopeless.

I’m Confused About the Shedding from Hair Drugs
i’ve heard people complain about “shedding” with Rogaine, Propecia, and Avodart (more with Avodart and Rogaine). I can see from what you have posted before how Rogaine may cause “shedding” (or loss of hair) as it speeds up the hair cycle, and may cause hairs to fall out to be replaced by new, by stimulating the hair cylce process. But how would Propecia or Avodart cause shedding? It seems like it would cause to stop, since only a hormonal inhibitor, not some hair regrowth stimulant. Are these people complaining of “shedding” really just experiencing hair loss from genetic hormonal factor (androgenic alopecia), and it just has not been long enough for their Propecia (6 months to 1 1/2 years) to really kick-in and cause regrowth?
Propecia (finasteride) and Avodart (dutasteride) may cause hair shedding in some, probably through the same mechanism. The exact mechanism for this hair shedding is not known, but the shedding induced by all different medications generally fall into the same pattern. As we’ve said before, this hair shedding is usually temporary and reversible within a few months and not as common as the readers of websites may think. In my practice, I rarely hear this complaint.

14 Year Old With White Hairs
hi. i am 14 year old (male) and i am having a lot of white hairs. My cousin had experience this when she was in teen age but later her hairs turn black again when she grown up. Is it possibility that my hairs will turn black when i grown up?
I have not heard of black hairs turning white and then back to black. White hair in very young people does occur, although it is not common.

I’m Losing Hair in My Donor Area
First of all I, among many other really appreciate your work in helping people out with hair loss questions.
My condition, starting at 18 (two years ago) began abruptly with hair falling out at all parts of the scalp. This includes the “donor area”, sideburns, the top, the crown, the sides…everything. I researched and thought it may have been telogen effluvium but it never stopped which led me to the unfortunate conclusion that i was losing ALL of my hair. Two years later it is still going strong with all parts of my scalp significantly thinned but no receding hair line at all. This past year alone I have been having constant, very serious dandruff ( to the point where I don’t even understand how my skin cells keep up with all the skin shedding) and toward my hairline it almost looks like a rash where the dandruff begins. I feel like either the dandruff is causing hair loss or the hair loss is causing dandruff.
Anyway, I am just wondering if you have any knowledge of this and if there is any sort of treatment just to at least give me some extra tie with my hair since I’m am not even 21 yet! My mother’s father lost all of his hair by 30 but since much time has passed there must be some sort of working treatment other than minoxidil and propecia. I am also 100% Italian if that helps at all. Any thoughts at all will be extremely helpful since I am too scared to tell my parents or anyone because I am so young!

You need to see a good doctor. If you are losing hair in the donor area and the sides (as well as elsewhere on your head), you might have diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA)… or there could be something else entirely (allergy? fungus?). It would be foolish to treat yourself and second guess what is going in.
You’re 20 years old, but you’re never too old to lean on your family for support if you need it. I’d start with a doctor to help determine what is causing your hair loss.

Do you think that it is safe taking finasteride and minoxidil at my age? My result are excellent.
Speak with your doctor, as I don’t give direct advice over blogs. I suspect that it will be okay. These topicals go systemic, so maybe you would be better off sticking with the oral forms of these medications so that you know exactly what your system is getting.
I’m Seeing Shedding a Couple Months After Starting Minoxidil

Although I started noticing small vellus hairs growing at my hairline when I started taking minoxidil. I thought everything was working out perfectly, but then I also started noticing hair loss a couple months after I started taking minoxidil. Is this normal, I thought most of the shedding would happen earlier on like within the first month not after that?
I’m surprised you saw hairline regrowth from using minoxidil. There are some reports that the short term use of minoxidil will cause shedding of hair and that this is a reversible process once you get out 3 months from the time you started it. If you are not seeing this, go to a specialist on this.
