Video Parody – Hair Loss Treatment “Innovation”

It might be 10 months old, but it’s new to me! I just stumbled on this video, and it really put a real smile on my face. It goes to the core of the hair loss innovations. Enjoy.

Hairline too low from transplant

I had an FUE transplant a few years ago and I’m not real happy with my hairline. My hairline is a cm or two lower than I’d like, it doesn’t match my temples and it’s a bit low for how thin my hair is. It would look more natural if it were a bit higher.

Has anyone dealt with this or have any suggestions? I’m shaving a bit off of it right now but it certainly looks a bit off as the hair shaft is just shaved. I saw a transplant specialist and they suggested that if I plucked those hairs it would scar. Did she mean that it would show the scars from the implanting of those hairs I plucked? Cause when I have tried plucking before it wasn’t very noticeable to me. Would plucking be a good option? Where do I find a laser if that’s the best option? Do I need a specific laser for scalp? Any other recommendations? Thanks for any advice.

I tried to search this in this subreddit but didn’t find anything with “pluck” or “hairline too low”. I saw a thread or two that looked similar but there were no comments. Through the search though I found out plucking may spur hair growth in the plucked area though?

Hairlines that are placed too low at a hair transplant are a real problem to fix. If you laser the hairs to move it up, there could be scarring seen at the point where each hair follicle was placed as the skin of the graft could be depigmented by the laser and result in a whitish dot. This is particularly a problem the darker your skin is, less of a problem if you skin is very white. The key it to be absolutely sure that you are your surgeon design the hairline so that it is never too low. To high is easy to fix as it can be brought down, but to low, there is little that can be done.

Vitamin D Caused My Female Hair Loss to Stop!

(female)
Hi – two weeks ago my Md told me I was really deficient in vitamin d. I started taking 5000 units a day and to my astonishment – when I washed my hair- almost NONE came out… ( usually its handfuls) … also muscle spasms stopped and i feel great…

Vitamin D is a miracle… really!

Now that your vitamin D deficiency is cleared up, so is your hair loss. That’s great news! Congratulations!

I’m posting this to show that female hair loss has so many potential causes (a partial list can be found here), and some solutions are as simple as adding vitamins to your diet. Talk to your doctor!

Half of All Women Develop Hair Loss After Menopause

It is one of the very common problems that women have-hair loss during menopause. It is a really very emotional and disturbing problem for many menopausal women. During this time they will be experiencing hot flashes, mood swings, weight gain, insomnia, etc problems. Actually, the ovaries stop working and hormone-secreting also stops making estrogen and progesterone. These two hormones play a vital role in blocking the impact of the genes responsible for hair loss and protect the hair growth, making hair roots look strong while the hormones are being made. Once they are gone, the genetic influence gets strong if they have the genes for hair loss.

I want to know how much hair density is really there in one of your patients whose pictures you posted

I was looking at your post: https://baldingblog.com/norwood-class-7-pattern-patient-received-11000-grafts-plus-smp/ (the man with the fantastic hair transplant) and I want to know how much real density is there that he is covering up?

I just showed his style but if you understand hair transplants, assuming that we moved 30,000 hairs to cover his balding Class 7 pattern, the normal density can never be achieved which in him was over 100,000 hairs. There is a reality that you should know about. If you took a normal full haired man with Black hair and very white skin (essentially like newspaper print) and removed half of the hairs on one side of his head, you could not tell which was the 50% of density side by looking at him. This was actually done by an obsessive compulsive doctor some years ago to prove that a full looking head of hair can be obtained with less than normal densities. The less the color/contrast between hair and scalp color, the less hair you need to look full headed. A blonde can look full headed with 75-85% of his hair gone with good styling. So, in conclusion, the look is tied to the art of the surgeon who understands there nuances.

Happy Holidays

It’s the holiday season, so we’re not going to post today or tomorrow like we would normally do. We’ll still post a few times this week, and things will pick back up to the normal amount of posts on January 2nd.

Happy Holidays!

Watch out for ‘Artificial Hair’ Implants Ads (photo)

Artificial hairs had been heavily advertised world-wide, many years ago. They have since been banned by most governments, but a few still allow it. This is a picture of the scarred area where the artificial hairs were eventually removed after becoming infected.

Har Vokse

I was just curious about the new product “Har Voske”, their claims are that “in clinical studies it was shown to stop hair loss and promote regrowth in 90% of participants.” Have you ever heard of this product and would you happen to know if it is FDA approved or even effective?

Thank you.

“HÃ¥r Vokse” literally translates from Norwegian to “hair grow”. The product site says it is a blend of “marine polysaccharides”. There’s more than a few products out there that use these fish proteins and offer claims of hair loss treatment, but I would doubt that it actually does what its name implies.

There’s no FDA approval for this (or any supplement like it, since it isn’t required). The most well known product like it is probably Viviscal, and I wrote about that one many years ago here.

Finally, the site talks about a study published in the Journal of international Medical Research, but I can’t locate the study to see what they’re referring to.

Weightlifting = Accelerated Balding?

Hi Sir,

I have been doing weight lifting exercises for the last one year, I heard that weight lifting exercises increase the testosterone levels by 40%; it will in turn produce 40% more DHT, there by baldness accelerate. I like to be a body builder, please suggest me.

I also heard that finasteride helps to decelerate bald ness by 30% only,as it inhibit 5AR-2 by 70%, but, how can I stop, the baldness aggression, more than 90%,

I would like to ask you two options, which one is better to supress baldness as much as possible

  1. Taking finasteride two tabs (morning & night)
  2. Taking Dutasteride

Please suggest me. Waiting for reply…

Thanks

The data on dutasteride for treating hair loss is not available although many doctors feel it is more effective than finasteride. The dose response relationship between finasteride and hair growth shows that the maximum impact occurs at the 1mg level. There is no evidence to show that the higher dose is better, but other than sexual side effects, there is no problem doubling the dose.

I did have a patient come into my office today who was on Propecia for a year with no sexual side effects and then switched to Dutasteride (Avodart) about a year ago with significant libido and Erectile dysfunction reported. This is not an unusual report, but he personally did not care about his sex drive, while most of my patients do express sex as one of their priorities and would not accept the decreased libido.

With regard to weightlifting, I am unaware of any direct connection to normal increases in testosterone from physical activity and hair loss. Many of the hair loss related complaints tend to come from men who take supplements that have some steroid type substance in it.

It is now 4 months, has the transplant failed? (photo)

Just be patient. By the 8th month you can expect to see 90 percent of the growth from your hair transplant. Some people don’t start growing until the 4th or 5th month. When it starts, it grows out at a rate of about 1/2 inch per month. You are hopefully, one of these later bloomers.
