If I Stop Propecia After 2 Months, Will There Be Sudden Negative Effects?

I have been taking propecia for 2 months. I haven’t had any side effects yet but reading about gynecomatia and the sexual side effects have me worried. Also I read on your site that proscar in 5mg has had some connection to breast cancer. So I was wondering if I stopped using it will I lose any hair? I am not sure if it has slowed down my hair loss but will there be any sudden effects on my hair?

If you have been taking Propecia for 2 months without side effects, I suspect you probably will not have the side effect you’ve read about. 2 months is a relatively a short span of time and I suspect you will not have much negative effects on hair. For example, you will not lose hair suddenly if you stop the medication because the medication has not been taken long enough to work. It goes without saying, please speak to your doctor before starting or stopping any medications and express your concerns to him/her (I am not your doctor).

Propecia will not cause breast cancer, but in a very small number of men, it may cause breast enlargement (less than 1:500).

If My Dermatitis is Active, Can I Still Get a Hair Transplant?

(female)
Does contact dermatitis affect my chances of having hair implanted. Over the past two years, my dermatitis has caused my hair to fall out and I want to get implant hair. Can I? That’s the question. Please let me know.

Thank you.

At NHI, we have performed surgery on many patients with dermatitis or even psoriasis. Each and every patient is different and if you are interested in surgery, you need to be evaluated by a competent hair transplant surgeon.

There are cautions with regard to the pretreatment of active areas of local dermatitis or psoriasis for example, as complications do occur with such findings as a Koebner phenomenon in the areas where incisions are made in active areas of psoriasis or dermatitis.

If the Average Person Has 10k Grafts Available, Why Are Most Patients Given Less?

I’ve read time and time again the average person has 7000-10,000 grafts available to transplant. If this is true why isnt there anyone on your website (Newhair.com) who is even up tp 7000 grafts?? Obviously some of the patients dont need anymore grafts but i’ve found a few pictures of your patients that have had 2000 to 3000 grafts transplanted that still have somewhat of a see through look. Why don’t these patients get more grafts transplanted? Would you say a lot of these patients are content with what they have?

I also have a random question. After the grafts are extracted from the back of the head and ready to return to the top of the head. How many grafts do you think two technicians put in on average per half an hr? A couple hundred per Technician???

Even if what you area reading is true about 7,000 to 10,000 grafts being available, it is up to the patient to want to have a hair transplant and use those grafts wisely. The Master Plan may include saving the remaining hairs for possible further hair loss. It may be a see-through look for you, but have you considered that the patient with 3000 grafts is happy with their results?

That being said, here’s a patient that has been presented on this site multiple times and had close to 10,000 grafts transplanted. He wasn’t going to be losing more hair, as his pattern was quite advanced already.

The speed of transplanting hair varies with each technician, along with the instruments and techniques used in the surgery. In other words, all clinics and doctors vary in technique (despite what they advertise). An average surgery of 2000 grafts can take 5 to 6 hours, so you can do the math backwards if you wish.

I’m 16, is my hairline receding?

Your hairline is moved from round to flat. As it further matures, it will become V shaped. The tip of your widow’s peak show where the hairline was when you were 5 years old. Some men lose the widow’s peak as their hairline matures. That is what is happening to you at this time.

I’m 22, what can I do about this? (photo)

I am devastated. No girl would even talk with me. I feel like I have been isolated from everything that someone of my age should be involved in. I never take off my baseball hat anywhere I go.

Topical finasteride with minoxidil might work and is worth a try if you can’t handle the oral finasteride but considering your age I would want to work a Personalized Master Plan with you so we could plan for your future professionally. You might respond to the use of a dermaroller as well if you add it to your routine and apply the minoxidil immediately after using it.

1 year on Minoxidil

I believe it is much better after a year. What do you think doctor?

Because your hair is curly and you can’t replicate the exact same hair style and hair length, you must use subjective evidence of the value of the year on minoxidil unless you were checked with the HAIRCHECK test (https://baldingblog.com/haircheck-test-how-it-is-done-video/) which will give you a clear measurement of what has happened to your hair over the past year. Everyone who cares about their hair should do this if you are going to take the time and spend the money on saving your hair. See this post: https://baldingblog.com/follow-haircheck-test-5-years/

I’m 25, what will happen to me if I get a hair transplant now?

I‘m about to do one at the age of 25. However since I’m not an extreme case (a slower hair loss) I’m scared that my hair behind the new implanted hair will fall out. How often does this happen? Will this happen if I don’t use finasteride?

The key to doing a hair transplant is to develop a Master Plan with your doctor. Balding develops patterns that are inherited from your family. Depending upon the pattern you inherited, the balding will progress sooner or later to your inherited pattern and if you start having a hair transplant now, you will have to accept that you will follow the hair loss until your hair loss pattern is reached by having more hair transplants. Of course, the reason for a Master Plan is to know where your hair loss is going and if you have enough donor hair to follow that pattern. You never want to look ‘half done’ which would happen if you did not plan properly. After a hair transplant in someone of your age, shock loss may develop which is common in men in their 20s (an acceleration of the hair loss process) so to avoid this, the drug finasteride is the ONLY drug that can stop shock loss in its tracks.

10 weeks minoxidil and microneedling (photo)

When the hair is cut short, it is easier to see the benefits of microneedling plus minoxidil. This combination works well when hair loss is early.
