The man in mirror sees an enormous forehead

Ask a family member or a friend for an opinion before you jump in and do something that you might regret. There are many things that can be done for this. If you are a male over 25, a hair transplant works great. However, I always tell young men like you that “A GOOD DECISION TODAY IS A GOOD DECISION TOMORROW” so if you are under 25, be patient and wait until you know how much balding you will develop.

Any Way for Women to Prevent Further Hair Loss?

(female) I am 27 years old and have been steadily losing my hair for 4 years. My mom is almost completly bald on the crown of her head and I really don’t want to end up like that. Is there anything I can do now to prevent any more loss. I can already see my scalp and it’s getting harder to do combovers. I’ve done several blood tests and all have come back normal. Any suggestions?

You might see an expert on hair loss (some dermatologists or hair transplant doctors might be helpful). The only FDA approved treatment available for women is topical minoxidil (Rogaine).

How Many of You Are Holding off for a Better Treatment? (from Reddit)

Are All 5% Minoxidil Exactly the Same?

Are all generic 5% minoxidil “exactly the same” as the branded 5% Rogaine and Regaine minoxidl and there is no pharmacological difference between them at all? Or for that matter any generic 5% minoxidil that is sold on pharmacy shelves in the general market place?

What I mean by that is if I were to use the generic 5% minoxidil it should just be as effective as the branded Rogaine/Regaine when applied to my scalp in treating my male pattern hair loss? The branded and trusted Rogaine/Regaine should not be more effective in growing more hairs than the generic.? They should be the same. But are they?

Could you reassure me they are all exactly the same so I can purchase the more cheaper generic versions ones and not worry about their pharmacological effectiveness if they are just as good as the label says they are?

I found these chemist sites selling cheap versions as follows:
– Kirkland minoxidil 5% FOR MEN 3 x 60ml Bottles (3 Month Supply) $33.75 –
– Minoxidil 5% 2 x 60mL for $31.99

Will these suffice? Can I buy these instead of the more expensive Rogaine/Regaine and hope they work just as well as I am on a shoestring budget at the moment? I hope you help me out with my enquiry.

The FDA monitors this, not me. When I know a company is legit, like Kirkland (the Costco house brand), I want to believe that it is the same minoxidil as found in Rogaine… but I do not know much more than you do. The confidence in a medication over the counter may be worth a premium, but you will have to determine this. I suppose you can also rely on the labels to see ingredients.

Massive Shock Loss After a Small Transplant Procedure

Hi

I had a transplant of 500 grafts just 16 days ago in a very small area of old scar tissue. This is my second transplant to cover the area. The first transplant, two years ago went very well. Same Dr.

On day 12 after the second transplant I have experienced massive shock loss. The Dr placed grafts in between existing hairs in an area 10 square cm. ALL hair, existing and transplanted have fallen out leaving the area completely bald. Disastrous as was hoping to go back to work and nobody notice. On crown of head. What is likelihood of this hair growing back?? Cheers

Previously transplanted hair from the donor area that is lost following a hair transplant is very rare and when it does occur, it usually comes back with the new hair that was transplanted.

Are maturing hairlines for real?

Are people just balding but at an acceptable rate ? Does everyone have a “halting point” at which their hairline will stay for a period if you let it get there? Does everyone have different strips of hair that will go at random speeds?

Just look at friends and family and you will know it is REAL! I actually learn at airports about the various ethnic hairlines which I study and sometimes ask permission to photograph

Maturing hairline is not balding

Not a 3A, of course is not balding. A Norwood 3 might be balding. That’s a mature hairline means. A presentable hairline that is basically the final pattern of hair loss for a man.

The maturing hairline is not balding. The Norwood scale at a 1 or 2 show some form of the juvenile/maturing hairline. Balding starts when corner recession appears when the hairline takes on a gentle V shape as in a Class 3 pattern where the corners and possibly the entire hairline rises up. It can also be detected when or if crown thinning appears. The correct incidence of balding in the male population is about 50% of men believed to have inherited some form of balding in their lifetime. My grandfather died at 102 and he had his 5 year old hairline when he died. His hairline never went through maturation. Bill Clinton is another example of a mature male who kept their juvenile hairline.

Are you a big fan of microneedling?

Yes, ever since I have been seeing the wonderful results of microneedling on Reddit, I have become a fan of it, especially for the men under 24 years old when hair loss is more easily reversible.

Medications That Prohibit You From Getting a Hair Transplant?

i am on coumadin. is hair transplant possible?

Coumadin (warfarin) is an anticoagulant, also known as a blood thinner. Blood thinners are on the top of the list of medications which must be addressed in a patient who is about to have a hair transplant. I have done transplants on people who are on such medications, but take many steps in the process to assure safety. Generally, one can cut back on the Coumadin and then step it up on the day of transplants. Your general health is really the issue and the reason you are on these medications may allow you to stop them for a week or so. The answer therefore is an individualized answer depending upon the patient, his/her medical condition causing the use of such a medication, and the general state of the patient’s health.

I take a thorough patient history and review all medications that a patient is taking prior to performing a hair transplant.

Article showing finasteride in scalp

This is an interesting article showing the effects of varying doses on DHT when finasteride is taken at varying doses.
