Is My Female Hair Loss from Ulcerative Colitis?

(female)
i have been losing hair for about 7 years now. i think it has to do with my ulcerative colitis. i started to take biotin and a multi vitamin. my hair is white flakes, itchy but im thinking my hair might be growing back. could this happen? when i was pregnant my hair grew back then after nursing my baby it fell out again. i have seen several doctors and they all say it’s hereditary.

Hair loss in women can be difficult to manage, because there are often many factors involved that could cause the loss (including hereditary factors). Have you had any blood tests done to see if there is any other underlying medical conditions? There is a partial list of those tests here.

The stress from ulcerative colitis could cause hair loss in women who have a hereditary predisposition for hair loss, but there are doctors who specialize in this (I’m not sure if you went to a GP or a UC specialist) that would know more about this than I do. If the hair loss is stress related, it could take up to a year to regrow. The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America site can point you to a specialist that will hopefully be of more help.

5138 grafts in frontal area (photos) from Reddit

The look is great, but you have used up more than 50% of your donor supply which could be a problem if your balding pattern significantly advances. I would ask your surgeon a simple question: “Could the same results have been achieved with 3000 grafts (1500 each side)? If your hair has a medium or better thickness, the answer is ‘yes’ in my opinion.

Is Plucking Hairs for ACell Procedure Faster than FUE?

Hey doc. I was just thinking. If Acell plucking works would it be fair to liken it FUE on steroids. Similarities being little scaring (or none with Acell), it is non strip, has the same yield except with the added bonus of unlimited donor hair. Also one more question, is the plucking technique faster than FUE per graft.

I don’t look too much into the ACell comparisons with follicular unit extraction (FUE) just yet, as it’s too early to tell. FUE is presently better organized as a procedure than the plucking/ACell. We’ve been performing FUE procedures for a decade, whereas experience has been limited with the ACell. This will change with time if ACell becomes the standard of care, but I believe that this is a long way off.

6 Months After Stopping Weight Training, I Have Acne and Hair Loss

Dear Sir,
I am 23, high sex drive male & been working out for past 2 years. No hair loss what so ever, acne, pimples or anything. But for past 6 months I’ve been away from gym due to frequent traveling and now I’ve high acne, excessive hair shedding to an extent that you can see my hair all over the house and family really wants me to stay away from their stuff because it will get “polluted” with my hair. My temple regions are totally bald now but what concerns me more is bald area on left side is roughly double in size to right.

Please devise you opinion on my condition. I have a feeling that sudden acquittal of weight training has cause my hair loss since all that free test. Wasn’t being consumed for muscle building. Also my scalp itches a lot sometimes.

Best Regards

I don’t think stopping weight training can cause hair loss. Many bodybuilders experience hair loss after they use anabolic steroids. It is likely that your hair loss has a genetic source, but there are other factors that can accelerate the speed of losing hair. When people lose hair from genetic causes, it is not unusual for the loss on one side to be further advanced over the other side. Coincidence of increased acne and rapid hair loss makes me suspicious of the possibility of increased androgen in your body. Androgen can have an external or internal source. If you use anabolic androgenic steroids, you need to stop them. If you have not used any of those steroids recently you need to see your doctor for further evaluations.

Is SMP risky for people with hair?

Looking to get the opinion of Males or Females that have gotten it. I find SMP to be riskier than a transplant, half the People who are bald and get it regret it. There aren’t a lot of stories of people with hair that get it.

We have done quite a few men and women with thinning hair applying tattoo pigments with great responses and happy patients, see here: https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/gallery/thinning-hair/ . It is a great adjunct for people with thinning hair especially for women who have no other options when they are post-menopausal.

6 months on finasteride (photo)

Men with blonde hair do better visually (blond hair on blonde skin) as it takes less hair to look fuller than someone with high contrast (black hair on white skin)

6 weeks oral minoxidil and finasteride

Amazing response in just 6 weeks from oral minoxidil and oral finasteride. I expect that in 6 months, you might have your hair back. It would have been nice to see more pictures of you from different angles.

Is there any effective way to get a Hair Transplant without meds?

Yes, I have done this many times; however, I require a good understanding of how much miniaturization is present to help my patients understand what might happen to them after a hair transplant if anything. The older the man is, the less miniaturization is usually present, but that is not an absolute rule.

7 Months on finasteride and minoxidil (photo)

Great results from finasteride and minoxidil in a 31 y/o male in just 7 months. I was asked yesterday if balding can be reversed, you have answered the question, at least for now.
