Sex and Hair Loss?

Will having sex cause an increased rate of hair loss on men? And if so, is it better to have sex without ejaculating?

It is probably true that there is a relationship between testosterone and sexual appetite. There is also a relationship with testosterone and hair loss and if, for example, a man (who has the genes for androgenic alopecia) applied testosterone creams, he would increase his testosterone blood levels and probably have more hair loss due to the increased DHT. That is where this conversation ends.

Ejaculation (present or not) should not increase testosterone levels. There is no connection between ejaculation and hair loss. If you want to have sex without ejaculating… good luck!

Experiencing Shock Loss Months After My Hair Transplant

Ok here’s my situation, about 7 months ago I got about 1400 grafts performed. The standard strip style surgery. I’ve healed up well and I would say less than 2 months after surgery the hairs immediately started to grow. I also started propecia right before the surgery. I experienced shock loss immediately after the surgery and it ceased about 2 months after. I shaved my head completely and my hair grew in like crazy very thick and flowing. About 4 months after the surgery my hair started to fall out again and has since been falling out and progressively getting worse. I apply rogaine and copper peptide solution daily and am not doing anything any different. What can you suggest as a course of action?

Because of the protective effect against shock hair loss, you should’ve been taking Propecia (finasteride 1mg) prior to the hair transplant surgery — so the question now is whether you started it early enough (best a few weeks before the procedure). Accelerated hair loss associated with a hair transplant is most probably caused by shock loss. One must use the history and the association to point to the cause. You might be going through a hair loss cycle unrelated to what you are doing and there may not be anything you can do except to wait for your hair cycle to take its course. If there was a considerable amount of miniaturized hairs, then you would be a ‘set-up’ for shock loss. Studying your hair miniaturization and distribution may point to more information in helping to make a diagnosis, but as I am not your doctor, I have no access to your patient records and can’t provide much more help than suggesting you post these questions to your doctor.

Shedding After Increasing Propecia Dose?

Hi,
Can someone have shedding after increasing the dose of propecia? I’m 22 years old started losing hair 2.5 years ago, a year ago I started taking proscar pills cut in quarters, hair loss continued but it may have slowed down a little bit, about 3 months ago I started taking proscar pills cut in half, and since then my hair loss increased a lot and I lost hair much faster than before, so could it be shedding from increasing propecia dose?

thank you

When finasteride is taken and is effective, it can accelerate the hair cycle and can give you temporary hair loss. We have seen this rarely in people who start the drug and it often disappears in 2-3 months. I would guess (although I have not seen it) that the same phenomenon can be observed if the increased dose was working on you. It should abate in 2-3 months.

Facebook Response from a Nurse in Vietnam

My son Ian, posted my photo when I was in Vietnam on facebook for Veteran’s Day and a nurse, Carol, responded with this very nice post which I wanted to share with you:

Wow. I knew that guy!!!
I watched your dad work tirelessly to heal and help US troops and then when others might rest during off time, he went off to do the same down at the Vietnamese hospital where he shared his skills and knowledge with local practitioners. He was also always trying to find ways to keep our spirits up. He managed to find a popcorn machine and had it helicoptered in for our little club. Something so simple to give us pleasure. He knew that caregivers also needed care and respite from the emotional strain of death and trauma and illness. He heard some nurses talking about how they missed soaking in a bath tub and the next week one appeared in the sky being lowered down from a chopper. He’s a guy I’m proud to know!
I remember that I also found a piano 300 miles away and flew the piano to our hospital hanging off of the bottom of a helicopter to entertain the troops. I was fortunate as I was the officer in charge of the Officers Club which was a night-time job for me. That gave me access is huge amounts of beer and liquor which was worth gold in trading for things. I traded palates of beer for air conditioners and airconditioned the entire hospital patient facilities (the club was very profitable). I remember Carol very well, a great caring nurse who the patients all fell in love with.

Shedding of transplanted hair

I did not see any hair come out and it appears that my hair is growing.

There certainly is a suggestion that the hair is actually growing but there are small areas that do not contain hair suggesting that some shedding did occur. I see full growth rarely, but when it occurs, you can get full growth in 4-5 months. I think that you are only partly there.

Fat Burner Causing Hair Loss?

For about 3 weeks, I used a “fat burner” that contained 75 mgs of 7-oxo DHEA (7-Oxo-Dehydroepiandrosterone) @ 225 mgs per day. I noticed hair loss after the third week, and stopped use. But hair loss continued and was rapid.

I have been off it for about three weeks, but hair loss seems to continue. It seems to be a bit slower now.

I asked to have tests done, but my doctor simply recommended Rogaine. Rogaine doesn’t seem to do anything.

Is it possible that it is “too late”? That once this hair loss has started, it will simply continue on its course — even though I no longer take this fat burner? Not sure what else I can do at this point.

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal (September 13, 2005 issue) stated that short term weight loss of as little as 8-9 pounds, could cause hair loss. Whether it is reversible or not, only a proper diet will tell you. We have long known that malnutrition is a major cause of hair loss in the history of man and hsi hair problems. For those with the genetic balding process, stress can precipitate the process. A weight loss program that is associated with a good diet is not a problem for most people, but acute or chronic malnutrition in men and women can cause hair loss.

Fecal transplant reverses Alopecia Universalis

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5599691/

“2 case reports where notable improvement in AA was observed after FMT was performed for recurrent CDI. Further study of gut microbiota in patients with autoimmune alopecia may elucidate disease mechanisms and provide evidence to support clinical trials of FMT in this population for whom treatment options are currently limited.”

Should I do SMP or a hair transplant?

First you must ask yourself if it is hair that you want. If the answer is yes, then you must get an objective assessment with good numbers on (1) your donor density and (2) your hair mass index. These two factors will determine if you have enough hair to cover your entire head. Keeping in mind that if it is remotely reasonable, then you might be able to combine Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) with a hair transplant to get a full head of real hair (see here: https://newhair.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Combining_Follicular_Unit_Extraction_and_Scalp.98621.pdf ). But if you decide to have SMP, you could do it first ( https://scalpmicropigmentation.com/), see how you like it. If that turns out that you rather have a hair transplant and if the analysis of your donor area points to a good possibility of having a hair transplant as I discussed above, you can then go the transplanted route. Having SMP does not preclude a hair transplant.

Female Hair Loss After Knee Surgery

I am a 26 year old female, just had knee surgery last year june 2005. I have been experiencing a tremendous amount of hair loss since then. I’ve read that it could be because of the anethesia, so, my question is how long after will this continue.

One of the manifestations (or presentations) of female genetic hair loss is that some women have hair that sheds easily with stress and then comes back. You will have to wait this out.
