Testosterone and Intelligence?

Hello, I have a question regarding finasteride. I have heard that there are correlations between intelligence (IQ) and testosterone. Now if I take finasteride, it will lower my dht, but apparently it will also increase the testosterone slightly. Now, which form of testosterone is related to intelligence and what would an increase/decrease do to the intelligence.

thank you in advance for any anwser.

This is a new one for me. I haven’t read anything about testosterone and intelligence being related, and I don’t know where you picked that up from. If you believe everything you read on the Internet, Elvis will be your neighbor and the world will come to an end shortly.

Sorry, but I wouldn’t be concerned about your testosterone affecting your intelligence.

Testing Hormones Before Starting Propecia

Do you think its a good idea to get all your hormones tested before propecia so you have a baseline to compare against? Propecia can raise estrogen, testosterone, and aromatase levels because of the lower DHT which helps balance these right?

There is no need to test your hormones before taking Propecia. While your theory may be valid, there would be no value in measuring high or low hormone levels. Why? Of course some values may be high or low, but what will you do if they are? Stop taking the medication? On the contrary, you are taking the medication to change some of these hormone levels! More specifically, the DHT hormone levels. So in the end, the hormone measurements only end up being a matter of curiosity which has been extensively studied by scientists before the drug was approved by the FDA.

Testicular pain while on Finasteride

I started finasteride about one year ago (1mg finasteride daily + topical minoxidil). It’s worked pretty well with minimal to no sides.

I had a previous stint w/ fin a couple years ago so I was mentally prepared for the testicular pain that hits you in the first few weeks when i re-upped, but I don’t rly remember it even happening when I started on Keeps though.

However about a week ago I started feeling sharp jolts pain in my nuts (more specifically general scrotum / maybe epididymus?) after I’d by lying down about to get up or just at random times throughout the day. Also has kind of come to feel like I have some tension down there like someone’s got a vice grip on my scrot basically all the time (maybe like a 2 or 3/10 in terms of being noticeable or painful). The jolts are more like a 7 and sometimes even make me flinch once or twice a day.

Pain in the testicles could be from the drug finasteride or it could be from other causes that are anatomic in nature. See your family doctor for an examination.

Testicular pain, stopped finasteride 7 months ago

I took finasteride for almost 30 days exactly around june last summer, but quit due to noticing gyno coming on, once i hopped off the gyno has stopped progressing but i still have a slightly watery semen and just last week i started having ball ache, it started very mild but it’s just been getting worse and worse. i’m going to try to get recommended to a hormone specialist or something on monday. has anyone else had a new side effect come on this late after stopping fin use? should i be very worried or is this just something minor? i haven’t had any ed problems or libido problems that i can notice, but i’m afraid that’s next

There are many causes of testicular pain and if you are off finasteride for 7 months, it is likely that you have one of these other causes. See your family doctor

Testicular pain on finasteride

I started recently (I’m thirty) and have been on it for about six months with great results. The only side I felt so far is the mild ache in the testicles from time to time. However recently the ache has come back and is pretty persistent. And I might be paranoid but i read somewhere that propecia even the 1mg one can led to shrinking of the testicles.

If you are having testicular pain with finasteride, see your doctor and get examined. If the two are related and it doesn’t go away with stopping it for a few week, or using a smaller dose, then it might not be the drug for you.

Testicles and Balding

I recently heard of a story(second hand) where a pair of identical twins, due to an unfortunate accident, were part of an interesting experiment.

Apparently at the age of 21 one of the pair lost his testis in some motor vehicle accident. Now both are in their fifties, the one who was in this accident has a full head of hair, and his identical twin is quite bald. Does this mean that removing your testis stops balding?

I am terribly sorry if this a very silly question.

Thanks for your time

Good question! I have not heard of that story, but that is a very real possibility. Male pattern hair loss is in part due to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a breakdown product of testosterone. If a man is missing his testicles, which is the source of the majority of testosterone in his body, he will have a very low level of DHT and should not bald.

Testicle Pressure from Finasteride

I have been taking Fincar (generic finasteride) for a little over a week. I noticed two things…a slight pressure feeling on both of my testicles, and a sudden shedding that happened today (there were like 20 hairs at once on my hand when I shampooed.) I’m kind of thinking about stopping, and I wanted to know what I should expect. I’ve read that once people stop, you can have a massive shed. Did taking the drug for 10 days even do anything? Am I going to have another shed on top of the one I just had?

Finasteride is a great drug for treating genetically induced hair loss, but if you were on it for just one week and stopped, there is no risk of loss. Twenty hairs is not a big deal (for example, you could’ve had some product in your hair that kept hairs from falling out through the day — totally normal) and you are probably overreacting.

Testicular symptoms do occur in a very small number of patients, and you should see your doctor if you’re experiencing pressure in your groin.

Testicle pain on finasteride

Is it a common side? It’s been a couple of days since I started taking finasteride, and my left side feels tense and slightly painful. Any similar experience?

If the testicle pain continues, go back and see your dctor as this drug is known to cause the problem in some men but also there are other condition that cause testicle pain in young men that requires an examination by your doctor.

Testicle Pain 3 Months After Taking Finasteride

You could be developing some problems with your testicles that may be or may not be related to Finasteride. You should see a doctor and not assume that it is due to the drug. The doctor will examine you looking for testicular torsion or other abnormalities that some men may be experiencing and who are not on the drug Finasteride.
