Review of Microneedling (From Reddit)

The attachment goes through all of the definitions, common practice and a reasonably complete review of the industries experience with microneedling with minoxidil, PRP and mesotherapy. This is a must read for those of you who want to go through this treatment modality, how to do it and what you can realistically expect. The conclusion from the various references seems to show a uniform benefit from the microneedling.

Reversing Laser Hair Removal?

My girlfriend has been going through laser treatments for removing pubic hair before she met me. she has gone through four treatments (she was supposed to do 12)and I convinced her to stop because to me lack of pubic hair seems completely unnatural. since she has stopped I noticed some slight regrowth but it is in strange patches and not even. Has the laser completely destroyed these areas? will minoxidil help regrow the hair? is there any way to reverse this process or is a transplant the only way?

Laser hair removal does not work 100% of the time. Part of the problem is the long telogen cycle of body hair, which means that all of the hair is not growing at the same time (it is in a sleep phase)… so a hair that has been sleeping (in telogen) may have not been present as a mature hair when the laser removal treatment was done. I tell patients that they can expect 50% of the treated hairs to be destroyed and 50% to return every time there is a treatment.

If a hair is killed by a hair removal laser, then it is gone forever. Bringing back the dead (even a dead hair) is not possible with anything, including minoxidil.

Reversing Hair Loss with Scalp Exercise?

I recently came across this website which belongs to an individual who claims to have halted and reversed his own hair loss through a variety of scalp excercises and developing certain facial muscles.

I would love to hear your views on this issue as I haven’t been able to find the topic on the blog. Do these exercises have any scientific bearing at all?

With regards to my own hair loss, I’m 21 and I noticed a small thinning area in the crown about a year ago and have been taking finasteride for about 10 months.

In this time, I’m sure that the number of hairs I’m losing daily has slowed down, however I haven’t seen a visible result as of yet. I’ve let my hair grow quite long (3-4 inches) for the last 2 months. Is it possible that when I get my hair cut shorter, I may see the benefits more clearly as the newer hair will have grown back thicker? (I hope that makes sense!)

Keep up the great work!

I personally can not believe that hair loss can be reversed with such exercises. I haven’t read anything that shows scalp massage or exercise would have any regrowth benefit, aside from theories like this. The site you reference quotes a “current textbook” that links scalp tightness to male pattern baldness, but it doesn’t provide author names or even a title. Certainly, it will not hurt to try these methods (besides time spent avoiding proven treatment methods in favor of this), but I don’t see any actual science here.

Reversing an M shaped hairline loss

I am using minoxidil, zinc, and biotin plus Dermaroll once a week. I believe that Minoxidil definitely works even without fin!

It would be unlikely to reverse this frontal M shaped hairline, but I would try with microneedling + minoxidil and use topical finasteride. After one year you will know. IF it doesn’t work a hair transplant is a good option.

Reversal of significant balding at 25 in 2 months (photos)

I’m 25 years old. I was starting to lose my hair when I was 16. It was very rapid process so when I was 20 my situation is almost NW7. 132 days ago I decided to take this regime ( I don’t want to mention about decision phase): dermaroller 0.5 mm x1week, (dut(0.5) once everyday+ minox %5 twice everyday + nizoral 2-3 times per week with no side effects), biotin(10000) + zinc(50) + d3(5000) + collagen peptides(tablet) + omega3(with fish oil) all of them x1 everyday, ogx biotin shampoo

Everything was good for me in just 2 months. It was like a miracle you know. My hair like born again. My head was full of baby hair and they were getting stronger day by day (or its just it seemed to me like that)

This is great. You have with your combination of approaches solved your hair loss problem for the moment. I have little doubt that the best part of what you did was: big 3 + dermaroller 0.5 mm x1week (dut(0.5) once everyday+ minox %5 twice everyday + nizoral 2-3 times per week with no side effects). There are excellent studies that show that the use of a dermaroller plus minoxidil and finasteride (in your case dutasteride) can reverse hair loss in young men. I give you great credit for sticking to this routine. Keep in mind that both dutasteride (or finasteride) plus the minoxidil must stay on-board to hold on to your hair, possibly without more dermaroller work.

Retrograde Alopecia

I’ve been on minoxidil for about 7 months now and it doesn’t seem to be helping. Is retrograde alopecia not androgenic? I always just thought it was a weird pattern of genetic hair loss but some people on this thread are saying there can be causes… is that true? What kind of causes?

I think that this may be some ill defined inherited issue where particular hairs undergo Apoptosis based upon programmed death. This also happens in genetic male patterned balding but that was defined for a huge population. I haven’t seen anyone who has ever done a study of retrograde alopecia with with inheritance as a focus.

Retinoic Acid and Hair Loss in Mice

Hey doctor,

I thought i’d share this article with you: ScienceDaily.

It seems the article is suggesting that mice lacking a certain enzyme, produce an excess of RA which caused alopecia in the mice. A quick search of retinol and retinoic acid on the internet provide many sites linking this to hair loss treatment products. I haven’t had time to actually look at the paper itself but the article seems to suggest that in some individuals (those lacking the enzyme), RA can either accelerate or initiate alopecia. I have read posts you made earlier in regards to RA and minoxidil being paired together suggesting that the former likely did not improve the effectiveness of the later, but this study seems to go further in suggesting that RA could even be detrimental. Furthermore, as RA comes from vitamin A, those individuals that lack the enzyme might benefit from decreasing their daily intake of Vitamin A. Obviously this all conjecture, but i thought it was a pretty curious article. Do you have any thoughts on it?

Thanks so much.

I have posted your email and the link to the article at ScienceDaily for the interest of our readers. Thanks for sending it. I have no opinion on it yet as this is all new to me, but as I have time to research it more I’ll be sure to write about it on the BaldingBlog.
