The first patient on the left has 1505 grafts and the patient on the right had 700 grafts. Note that both patients don’t look like that had a surgery and there are no crusts (scabs) present as each were washed off the day of and the day after the surgery. These photos were taken less than 24 hours after their hair transplants.

I have been asked lately to show more pictures after the surgery so that prospective patients can understand what they may look like. Each patient is different because of hair and skin color. The lower the contrast, the less detectable it is, the grater the contrast the more detectable the ‘beard look’ of new hair is. The redness you see will be gone in a day or two. The tape was put there to prevent swelling from creeping down in the forehead into the eyes. Note there is no crusting and the recipient area looks clean because we wash it very carefully. We don’t usually see the patients after the first day post-op to get daily pictures, but as the patients come in, I will try to update these photos.

Please note that there is no scabbing present and each of our patients are trained on how to wash their hair, so that they never look transplanted at any time. The pink color you see here will be gone well before the end of the week.

The FUE wounds were washed well and they almost closed in the first 24 hours after the surgery, as shown in the attached photo

I had one small spot of alopecia areata on the back of my head 3 years ago at 32 years old, it resolved with a steroid shot. I do have it on my face and it resolves periodically without treatment. Right now I have DPA but almost my hair is intact, just generally thin throughout the NW6 pattern. Can’t tolerate fin.

DUPA, if properly diagnoses, is a contraindication for hair transplants as the hairs are highly miniaturized and may not grow when moved to the balding areas. AA is also a contraindication for hair transplants because a hair transplant can reactivate the disease. From the picture, it does seem that one section of the frontal hairline did not grow. Sometimes such a problem reflects a technical issue at the time of the surgery so return to your surgeon and ask your surgeon why this area failed. Hopefully, you will give you an honest answer and will make it ‘right’ with you and fix the defect.

Just wanted to update you all on my hair situation. I’m an amazing responder to minox apparently. I had previously, maybe 5 months ago, regrew my hair after being on min for 8 months. I quit and lost all my gains. Months later I decided to start again and in only about a month I got results.

What minoxidil has done after nearly 6 months, my existing hair looks worse and bald spot looks bigger…. I’ve been on fin for like a month and 2 weeks, I think I should taper off it now before it does any more damage any input?

The finasteride will take up to a year to see the value. I would stay on the minoxidil. You have to be patient!
