Necrosis from Hair Transplant (photos)

Here are two pictures, one on the left showing the area where the skin died (necrosis) and the second photos showing the results after it healed many months later. A huge scar remained without hair. It is possible that this can be re-transplanted but better and more careful planning is critical.

Necrosis of Donor Area with Consequent Scarring (Photos)

This patient clearly had FUEs grafts placed too close together which resulted in a loss of blood supply to the donor area near the ear. After it healed, there was a scar clearly present where the necrosis was seen postoperatively.

Necrosis after hair transplant

The arrows point to the sites where the skin or the scalp died off. The second photo shows the scalp skin has sloughed off. The cause of this is often too much epinephrine in the local anesthesia and site that are made too close for recipient area or even possibly too large a site creation. This will cause a scarred area with no hair growth in it. You need an experience surgeon and team to avoid this. In my 32 years in practice with over 17,000 surgeries done by either me or my group, there has never been such a complication as shown here.

Neckline Hair Recession

The hairline above my neck (neckline?) is thinning and receding from the middle, upwards and out slightly. I am a 24 year old male and have been on propecia and minoxidil for over a year. I have not regrown any hair nor has my hairloss stopped. I was wondering if the neckline recession has any implications for my hairloss and maybe why I have not responded well to treatments. Thanks!

You are (I suspect) talking about your neck hair. I would need to know that. The way you tell, is to find the notch at the base of your skull in the back of your head. Men have a prominent occipital notch. The neck hair is just below the notch. If this is the hair that you are losing, I would like to know and then write back to me and we will discuss it.

I Had My Neck Hair Pulled Out, so I Started to Use Minoxidil, Which Seems to Be Working. Should I Continue to Use It?

If you are seeing results, keep using it. The hair, once grown, may become dependent upon the Minoxidil, or it may be the original hair returning. It could be difficult to tell the difference. Hair pulled out often returns in the first 6 months after being pulled out.

Neck hair on fin/min

Anybody else notice a major increase in neck hair after starting fin and min. I have never had hair like this run down the 2 sides of my neck. Going to shave it tomorrow but it’s interesting to see that the medication is possibly working right away . I only apply minoxodil to my temples and haven’t seen much change but I’ve only been on for about a month. I hope this is the medication telling me that it’s working very well!

Minoxidil, when absorbed, can increase hair elsewhere in your body. The neck hair increase may be caused by minoxidil.

Is Neck Hair Genetic?

I am a 20 year old male who is worried about some hair loss at the neckline/nape of the neck region. I currently do not have any signs of balding in the crown or the hairline. But for some reason, every time I pull on the sides of the neck hairline, one or two tapered hairs fall out. My question is whether or not androgenic alopecia can affect this region or if it is determined by other genetic factors?

In some individuals, the neck hair is genetically programmed to fall out early. Rarely have I seen this in a 20 year old, but it is not uncommon in a man over 35. A few hairs may not mean that you are losing neck hair but just normally cycling hairs.

Naturally Low Hair Density or Am I Balding?

Hi there. I have always had a low density of hair around the top part of my scalp since my early teens however I have recently become much more conscious about it. For example after a shower my scalp is quite visible on the top part of my scalp and also when i part my hair when it is dry i can see through it under bright light. I have not undergone any considerable amounts hairloss nor have undergone any noticeable thinning of my hair but simply just feel that my scalp is quite visible on all parts of my top scalp. At a closer look its quite easy to see that my individual hairs are quite equally spaced out and is the main reason why i can see my scalp under the light. I am wondering whether this could just be my natural hair density that i have inherited from my mum (who also has a similar issue) or an early sign of male pattern baldness from my father’s side. Your reply and advice would be much appreciated. Thank you very much 🙂

If your hair is wet it will obviously look thinner as your hairs are separated from each other to expose the scalp. When you’re under a bright light it also will look thinner as the light illuminates your scalp between the hairs. This should be common sense.

If you are wondering if you are going bald you will likely see a pattern of thinning (see: https://newhair.com/resources/assessing-hair-loss/).

If you are still not certain you can see a a doctor for an exam and bulk measurement. We offer this in our practice in a free consultation with specialized instruments that measure, with good accuracy, your present hair loss status. We can often use this information to predict your future direction of hair loss.
