If I start Finasteride again, what are the chances they will become weaker again? And is there any way I can avoid that?

This is what I recommend to my patients. One pill every four days for two weeks. If that works, go up to one pill every three days for two weeks. Then, one pill every two days and stop there.

I’ve noticed my crown has been looking quite thin lately. My hair, otherwise, is very thick – I haven’t noticed any temple recession or hairline receding, it’s just around the crown area. Am I able to apply minoxidil to treat just this one area? Or must I put on entire scalp?

Many people with the genes for balding start off seeing thinning in the crown. Topical minoxidil is the best first line treatment for this. Apply it nightly after a hot shower so your pores open up and only put it where the thinning is in the crown.

I just had a quick question. I took 1mg of finasteride for 2 weeks and noticed I was starting to develop gynecomastia. I immediate stopped taking finasteride and gyno has since went down. This was my only symptom. My question is, in theory, would taking only 0.25mg everyday give me a better chance of not developing gyno? I understand there’s about 60% DHT inhibition at 0.25mg. At 0.25mg, would I have less extra testosterone that would get converted to estrogen, and give me a better chance at not developing gyno? If this is a stupid way of thinking just to continue taking finasteride, please let me know. I’d appreciate your honesty!

Since it stopped quickly, you can try the lower dose and see. I always suggest that you clear everything with your doctor.

Yes, you are miniaturizing with thinning and wispy hairs that exceed 20% of the hairs that you are looking at. Basically I remember that I hit puberty later than my peers, when ohers grew pubic hair,etc. I had literally 0 hairs everywhere else. People tell me today that I look like 17/18 eventhough I am 20 so I am wondering if I should wait with fin or not. I haven’t been growing for almost 2 years now is this some indication? My beard has been developing pretty well in the last 2 years and now it is almost complete apart from connectors. Could fin affect my “maturing”? especially facial bone/etc. maturing/masculine appearance.

If you are not balding or losing hair, don’t take finasteride. There is not effect on facial bones once you have matured. If you take finasteride, it could reduce your beard growth.

Hair loss following a hairline lowering procedure, like any facial plastic surgery is a known risk. Many times, in men who get a hairline advancement surgery, it does not come back. Many people have donor densities that will not support 4000+ grafts. They will develop a see-through donor area, reflecting donor site depletion.
