I Turned 27 And I Am Concerned About My Hair Line Because Someone Commented On It

I have just turned 27 and I am concerned about my hairline . I have never really given it much thought but then someone commented on it and I noticed it is a triangle shape. I am concerned that I am going bald but have heard of the term mature hairline. I have drawn in a line to show my highest wrinkle. I am thinking about getting a hair transplant as the hairline looks rather odd. My crown is fine I think ! I have attached photos which may be of use. There are no bald people on either side of my family which is why I find it strange that I could be.

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

If you are concerned about your hair line and considering a hair transplant, you should see a hair transplant surgeon. I don’t mean to sound obvious but there is not much I can say here. Balding occurs in the 20s for most men. From your picture there are two things happening: (1) your forelock comes down to the highest crease which indicates it is located where it was when you were 5 years old, and (2) you hairline on the corners is certainly receding upwards giving you a bizarre shape to the hairline that that makes it look pointed. If you transplant the frontal corners, you can move to a different hairline that better fits with your look. You are in your 20’s and that is when such frontal recession appears.

I Tried Rogaine for the Bald Spots I Saw From Extensions, Then Lost More Hair!

I’m a 39 year old woman who started using Rogaine because I had a few bald spots from using hair extensions. I used it for about a week and have been shedding for the last six months. It’s pretty much stopped, but I’ve lost between sixty to seventy percent of my hair.

Will I regrow any of it back? I’m MAYBE having some baby hairs returning up front but I’m not seeing that anywhere else. Is it possible that it wasn’t growing back because it was in shed mode and now that that has stopped maybe there’s hope for regrowth? Thank you for your input!

I’m not sure what you’ve experienced with just a short history. Rogaine is used to grow hair. Some patients have reported initial hair loss in the first month, but those usually grow back within a few months. You can give it about a year to see if the hairs will grow back.

You must also consider there might be other unrelated causes of hair loss that are coinciding with the Rogaine use. Have you seen a doctor about this loss?

I Took Propecia For 3 Days And Have Gynecomastia

I have a question regarding my start with Finasteride. Im a 26 years old Male suffering from mpb. I just started Finasteride 1mg / day 3 Days ago and feel some kind of pain in my right Breast area i didn’t have before. What would you recommend lowering the dosage to 0,5mg or stop the medication at all or try to ride it out with 1mg? Im really afraid that fin won’t work for me because of the very rare side effect of gynecomastia.

I recommend seeing your doctor who prescribed you the medication. Having your doctor examine your breast and having a discussion about side effects associated with the drug.

I suppose anything is possible but some things are improbable. Go see a doctor (in person).

I Took A Pill Of Propecia Last Night And My Testicles Shrunk This Morning

This type of complaint is not totally unheard of. Shrinking of the testicles after taking Propecia for one day is an impossibility, yet some people have reported this before. It is a reflection of a condition called Body Dysmorphic Syndrome (BDS) and we see similar things reported by some patients some of the time. It is not that these patients don’t really believe it, but their reality is different than most people’s sense of reality. I have also heard of one patient who reported taking the first dose of Propecia and an hour later, reported he was impotent. This again, is highly unlikely and is a psychological reaction to what some people read on the internet and the suggestive power of these words to their psyche.

I Thought You Can See Hair Transplants!

If I have a restoration of the crown, will the swirl look right or will it look noticeably like a transplant?

If the surgeon is experienced and properly recreates the whorl in your crown, it will not stand out as anything more than your naturally growing hair.

Just the other day, I went to my new eye doctor. We talked for a bit and when she asked me what I did for a living, I told her I performed hair transplant surgeries. She was suspicious, so I pointed to my crown and told her that those were hair transplants (see here). She said, “That’s hard to believe! I always thought that you can see them.” I couldn’t help but smile.

I thought that FUE did not have any scars? (photo)

FUE produces “punctate scars” which show up clearly on your head. The more FUEs that you do, the more FUE scars will be seen. If you do too many, then these scars will dominate your head. Every time the human body is cut, it heals with a scar. There is no such thing as a completely scar-less surgery. The surgeon tries to use very small punches to make the wounds small which then usually produce small scars. Punch sizes of 0.9mm or less are best for small, less detectable scars. Ask your surgeon what size punch he/she used.

I Thought Miniaturization Analysis Was the Best Test for Balding!

After my visit to your office today, I was more confused because your miniaturization analysis showed no miniaturization and your bulk analysis seemed to contradict the finding by identifying early balding. I thought that miniaturization was the most important test a doctor could do to determine balding. Please help me understand what appears to be a discrepancy.

I am sorry that I confused you. Before the Haircheck bulk measuring device was invented by a Florida hair transplant surgeon, the only way one could tell if hair loss was occurring was:

  1. Seeing excess hair falling out (very early and not conclusive)
  2. Seeing a balding pattern developing (maybe too late)
  3. Looking for miniaturization (does not always appear, especially when hair loss is slow)
  4. Taking photographs and comparing them (often too late)

By doing bulk measurements, it is a very sensitive way of understanding hair loss with a metric that is replicable once the measurements are repeated and compared over time. In your case, the metrics showed early hair loss, but there was no miniaturization present in the area of concern. Based upon this, the drug finasteride was recommended. By repeating this test in a year, you will know if the hair loss is stable or reversing, and if you are progressing in both anatomic areas as well as local measurements to see the state compared to what was done today.

I Thought HGH Thickened the Hair?

Hi,
I was just reading the recent questions pertaining to hGH therapy and hairloss. Could you explain the actual reason for the hair loss that occurs while a patient is on hGH therapy. I’m just curious because many physicians who promote hGH for anti-aging say it should thicken the hair in most cases. Perhaps the hairloss is mainly due to the Testosterone therapy that many use in addition to hGH?

It causes hair loss. Also look at the other things that it will do that are not good for you, which is defined well in MedLine Plus’s website: Growth Hormone

I do not want to write a book on pharmacology here. This is one of the master hormones of the body and its influence is massive everywhere.

I think that topical minoxidil is not working

I’ve been using topical minoxidil and oral finasteride for around 6 months. My loss has pretty much stabilized but no regrowth so far. I’m thinking about switching to oral minoxidil. Is this a good idea after 6 months or should I wait longer like with finasteride? Also, I have a lot of body hair, basically all over (shoulders, back, chest, stomach, you name it). I guess this can’t even get much worse with oral minoxidil, just wondering if anyone else who already had a lot of body hair here started using oral minoxidil and what their experience was.

What do you think? Switch now or wait longer?

if you feel that minoxidil is not working, then you probably do not have Sulfotransferases, an enzyme that enhances the conversion of Minoxidil to Minoxidil Sulfate, the active form of minoxidil for hair growth. Sulfotransferases are found both in the liver and in the ‘outer root hair sheath’ of the hair follicle. When present in the hair follicle, the person will respond well to minoxidil. Only about 40% of people are responders to minoxidil in the scalp. Because it is also present in the liver, the conversion of oral minoxidil to minoxidil sulfate in the liver with the oral minoxidil may help people who do not have this enzyme in the scalp hair follicles, making them more responsive to oral minoxidil than to topical minoxidil. That becomes a decision that only you know if the topical minoxidil is working, if not, then the switch may be a reasonable decision.
