Do bald men have hotter heads?

I Have Heard That in Bald Men, Their Head Is Hot and They Lose Their Hair Because It Creates an Environment That Is Not Good for Hair Growth.

There have been many jokes from bald men that hair doesn’t grow on a busy street. So they rationalize that they lose hair because they are smarter than those that keep their hair. Tell that to Albert Einstein who had a lot of unruly hair. It’s not true!

Since there is no hair on a bald man’s scalp, if you feel it, you may feel his body temperature which is warmer than typical room temperature and perceive it as hot when it is not.

I have Hashimoto Disease, Can I have a hair transplant?

If you disease is under control and you understand the risks associated with having a hair transplant, then the answer is yes. There could be an increased risk of hair rejection if the autoimmune disease impacts the skin which can happen anytime after the surgery, even years out

I Have Hairy Shoulders, Back, and Chest — Will I Have MPB?

Hi Doc. I have a few questions regarding male pattern balding and hormones.

  1. I obviously have a lot of DHT as I am 22 and have hair on my shoulders, back and chest and had bad acne growing up. Does this mean that I will be more susceptible to MPB?
  2. I have a widows peak that I inherited from my father. He is in his 50’s and the only extent of balding happened before his mid twenties that resulted in a pronounced widows peak. Does this mean That I will probably follow his pattern? if I have more DHT that he does is there a greater chance that I will have more balding…or is your pattern of balding predetermined…regardless of the amount of DHT you have.
  3. I have noticed miniaturized hair falling out every once in a while, they are thin but still as long as the rest of the hair. Does this always mean MPB or does some hair naturally miniaturize. (could other scalp conditions cause this, such as dermatitis)

I appreciate any info you can offer regarding these questions. Excellent site, keep up the good work.

  1. Having “lots” of DHT does not necessarily mean you will have MPB. You need to have the gene for MPB. Just having hairy shoulders, back, and chest does not necessarily mean you have “lots” of DHT either.
  2. You may or may not follow your father’s hair pattern. There is no way to tell for certain.
  3. Miniaturized hair does not necessarily mean you have MPB. Men with MPB have miniaturized hair in certain “patterns” — thus, the term male pattern baldness (MPB).

I have had Gynecomastia since I was 14

Am I more likely to get a worsening of my problem if I go on finasteride?

Men who have gynecomastia are not more likely to get breast enlargements or breast lumps than men who don’t have it when then go on Finasteride

I have had 2 hair transplant (photo)

This will be my 3rd attempt at hair transplant. How many grafts will I need and how many can my donor still provide? I would also like to blend my next HT with SMP. Please find the pictures attached. Thank you for your suggestions. Thanks.

The original donor density has to be known. It may still be possible to estimate that number but I would have to examine you and measure it myself. In addition, you did not state how many grafts you had so far and there is a suggestion of over-harvesting on the photos, but I would still have to see you to understand what your remaining supply is. SMP is the final step and should not be done until a Master Plan has been built!

I Have Found That A Doctor Is Offering 50 Cent per Graft for FUE. What Do You Think?

Hi Doc, I read on a website that a doctor is offering FUE surgery at $0.50 that is 50 cents a graft in Pakistan. What do you think?

Your guess is as good as mine. I really can’t validate this claim.

There was a sarcastic remark made about the Taliban and how it may relate to prices. Apparently it offended a few readers. We apologize for the insensitivity to those who were sensitive to the comments.

I Have Female Hair Loss and Was Told to Wash My Hair Every 3 Days

Hi,

Recently at age 31 I have been diagnosed with female pattern baldness, although both of my parents have a lot of hair. I was told to wash my hair every 3 days because i lose a lot in the shower and then brushing it. My scalps starts to get really itchy after 2 days and then i shed a lot of hair, why is that so? I do not have psorasis and scalp seems to be in good condition. Is it cause I have too much dht? Also have you heard of any good results with laser hair treatments?

I have not heard of or seen any good results with laser hair treatments. In my opinion laser hair treatments do not work.

Washing your hair less will not cause you to lose less hair unless you are rough in the wash. There is no relationship between washing hair and hair loss. You can wash your hair as you like. Your itchy scalp might be looked at by a local dermatologist.

I Have DUPA That Hasn’t Changed for 8 Years

Hello there Dr.Rassman

I’m a long time reader. basically since the age of 17 i have suffered from diffuse unpatterned alopecia (DUPA) which I’m guessing i inherited from my mother basing on what her hair loss looks like. anyway I am now a 25 year old man and 8 years have passed since i initially noticed the entire scalp thinning including the permanent zone. i feel my DUPA has not been too aggressive as i still have pretty good coverage overall with slight recession. my question is will my hair loss be very gradual or will it speed up soon?

If it has been stable for the last 8 years, I do not see why it would not continue to be stable a lot longer. But I can not predict the future and the clinical course of patients with DUPA has been poorly documented.

As a professional who may be more aware of this condition than most doctors, I recognize my limitations in both treating it and predicting its course, as we know very little about DUPA. I have tried using finasteride on most of the men with DUPA, but the results are inclusive. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.

I have DUPA, but went to Turkey for a hair transplant anyway

If you really have DUPA, the chance that your hair transplant will fall far short of your expectation is close to 100% and the chance that you might lose it all is high. Any good doctor, who doesn’t care about the money and cares about you, will not do a hair transplant on any man with DUPA. In my opinion, it is malpractice.
