I am worried about Shock loss from a Hair Transplant

I am a candidate for a hair transplant but i don’t want to use finasterade or minoxidil. A surgeon told me that the transplanted hair would create a shock loss to my existing hair and speed up hair loss. Is this true? What happens in shock loss?

When you have a hair transplant, the native hair that is going through some degree of miniaturization could speed up the miniaturization process even to the point where the hair will fall out. Finasteride can protect against this process, not minoxidil. I personally believe that this is secondary to the local anesthetic and the stress of the surgery on your body, regardless of if you feel any stress.. Carefully and judicious use of your donor hair is a critical that your surgeon must fully not only understand, but implement it in how he approaches you with a Personalized Master Plan going forward with a hair transplant. You should know what is your worst case scenario, and plan for it so that there will be no surprises.

I am worried about my hairline, especially the right corner, what are your thoughts? (photos)

It is too early to tell much. Your hairline is still in its juvenile position (because it approximates the highest crease of the furrowed brow) and I would expect that it would rise about 1/4 inch from where it is. Maybe what you are seeing on the right side is the first step in this process. If I were to see you, I would look to see if you had miniaturization in the frontal area, which would indicate changes coming.

I Am Worried About Balding. I See Thin Tapered Hair. Am I Balding?

Recently, I’ve been worrying about my hair as I’m seeing more hairs fall out in the shower. The issue is that at least have these hairs are short (1 inch or less), thin and tapered at the end, not the root. My hair on my head in general does not look or feel any thinner but the amount of these types of hairs falling out is concerning me. Are these types of hairs an early symptom of balding? Thanks.

Male pattern balding (MPB) is a genetic trait. The hair loss is apparent from a certain “pattern” that develops. The morphology of hair may be an sign of hair loss as miniaturized hair is smaller in its diameter. However ALL of us (even those who are not balding) have miniaturized hair. It is part of the cycle of hair.

I am very depressed, Am I balding?

I recently noticed my hair thinning and it has put me in a state of sadness. There are times during the day where I can’t bring myself to do anything because of how upset I am about my hair loss. I am a 23 year-old Asian male with what I suspect to be diffuse thinning. However, I have not seen any hair fall out on my pillow and just a few fall out when I shower. Would it be possible for you to look at some pictures of me to give me a confirmation? I want to take Finasteride but I am scared to death of the sides.

I don’t think that you are balding. Asians often have lower than average hair density and with your black hair and light skin, the see-through of low density reflects the high contrasts between skin and hair color. To find out if you are balding, you need to see a doctor who has an instrument called HAIRCHECK which will tell you if you lost hair bulk in any part of your scalp. In men, this is caused by genetic hair loss. I suspect that if you get this test, it will show that you do not have hair loss but to be sure get the test. Even if you are not balding but your hair appearance is not satisfactory, you can get Scalp MicroPigmentation and reduce the contrast between your scalp and your hair. I am trying to find out if I have enough hair to be a good candidate for a hair transplant. How many grafts do I have total?

Close to making a decision about a transplant, just unsure about whether my donor area might be too thin. I have always had messy/forward hair and would like to keep this style, is this possible with a HT? In most results I’ve seen, the hair seems to be placed facing upwards.

See the photo below. Left Box has 33 hairs and 16 hair groups = 2.1 hairs per Follicular Unit. The Right box has 38 hairs and 18 groups = 2.1 hairs per Follicular Unit. Both of these man have an average hair count reflecting about 110,000 total head hairs and a donor supply equal to about 6-7000 grafts in their lifetime. I purchased this from Amazon to do this photography: Xenvo Pro Lens Kit for iPhone, Samsung……….

I am thinking about switching from finasteride to dustasteride?

I keep trying to find online stories of people who were not responders to fin switching to dut and at least maintaining but throughout my googling I cannot find a single one. Quite the opposite actually, people keep saying it did nothing.

I switched to dut after not responding to fin three weeks ago. Does anyone know any stories of fin non responders responding to dut as I’m pretty demotivated by finding one possible success story and finding 20 other failures from my position.

Also if anyone did have success how long did it take?

You increase the risk of sexual side effects because dutasteride blocks the DHT receptors about 90% vs finasteride at 70%. Also there are sterility reports from dutasteride. Be careful about this decision

I Am Thinking About Doing a Small Hair Transplant at 22 Years of Age

22y/o here with diffuse thinning. I’ve accepted that growing my hair out long isn’t an option due to thinness and my hairline has started to go. I look fine with a buzzcut but would look great if I could fill in my temples. Ive stabilised loss with fin and min (on for 6 months) but am wondering if getting a small transplant (1k) to fill in temples is a a good idea (aged 24 or so). I think it would look better than some dodgy SMP. Has anyone done this/got any opinions

A small hair transplant is like being a little bit pregnant. You should never start the hair transplant process unless it is part of a Master Plan that looks into your future (see here: https://baldingblog.com/so-if-i-replace-my-receding-hairline-what-happens-in-ano).

I Am Taking Dutasteride for My Prostate

I am a 53 year old male. I just came back from my M.D. and I told him I was having a issue with frequent urination. He prescribed Dutasteride. I have been taking 1/2 a finesteride daily for the past 4 years. My question is should I take both and if I stop the Finesteride will the Dutasteride help with my hair loss at that dosage.

In your situation, dutasteride will be all you need and there is no point to take continue taking finasteride along with it. I don’t know what dosage of dutasteride you’re on, though.
