I would be greatly concerned if you went to Turkey for most of the ordinary clinics there. They may fill up your crown with most of your donor hair, so when you lose the frontal hair you presently have (a considerable amount), you may not have hair left to transplant. This is primarily a concern if you are under 25 years of age. See a good doctor and find out what your donor supply is, what your hair thickness is, and what hair loss pattern you may likely develop. Would you go to Turkey for a brain surgery?

Also, many young men can reverse this with medications alone. Finasteride is usually very effective in this type of thinning. Add microneedling, and you might find that you avoided a hair transplant altogether.

Plan on getting a HT I have an autoimmune disorder called LPP & the top of my head started thinning really bad about a year ago hair falling out in clumps flaky I’ve tried meds and everything there’s not much they can really do . It’s killed my confidence but I’m looking at getting a hair transplant to correct my hairline how many grafts would I need? Having LLP (Lichen planopilaris) is generally a contraindication for a hair transplant, as the odds are that the disease will kill the grafts.

The number of grafts will depend upon (1) the final agreement of where your hairline belongs and what you want (I will assume that the V-shaped hairline is at the lowest point of your mid-line hairline as shown in the photo which should be within 1/2 inch of the highest crease of the furrowed brow), (2) the thickness of your hair (fine, medium or coarse where the finer it is, the more grafts are needed), and (3) the decision to treat the crown with medications rather than a hair transplant reflecting the number range I will give you.

I am 29 years-old and would like to bring my corner hairline down. How many grafts will it take?

The number of grafts used in a hair transplant is dependent on the characteristic of the hair (fine, medium or coarse). Fine hair need more grafts and coarser hair need less grafts. So I might quote you a range between 1200-1500 grafts but that would depend upon the final design of the hairline that we determine together. What I am seeing is a faint outline of small remaining hairs that is marking the hairline position. I am using this as my guide for my recommendation.

To answer the question of how many grafts it will take, I will have to know the thickness of your hair (fine, medium or coarse). The range therefore would be 2,700 for fine, 2,300 for medium, and possibly 2,000 for coarse hair. From the photo, it is evident that you are balding behind the line you drew, so extra grafts should be considered for this area depending on how far back it goes.

The number of grafts to cover the crown depends upon the thickness of your hair (fine, medium or coarse). As the balding area includes the swirl where the hair changes direction, it often takes more grafts to recreate it. I would guess between 1500 grafts (for coarse hair) and 2500 (for fine hair).

From the picture, you have a Class 3 pattern of balding. Of course, I would want to examine you to see if there is balding behind the forelock you are showing, but assuming what I am seeing is all the balding you have, I would estimate something between 1500-2000 grafts depending upon your hair thickness (fine, medium or coarse) with finer hair requiring more grafts.

Asians, on average, have about 85,000 birth hairs on their head, so 25% of that can be moved for hair transplants in your lifetime, assuming you are mid-point on the bell curve for Asian hair numbers. Assuming that you have an average hair weight (not fine), then there should be 5000 grafts available during your lifetime. If your hair is coarse, then the numbers swing in your favor regardless of your total hair count. How old are you? What have you done so for to treat your hair loss? The idea that you can get an estimate of how many grafts if you (1) are too young, (2) haven’t tried treatment without surgery, and (3) go forward without a Master Plan by a good doctor is crazy!
