Does Finasteride Change a Woman’s Cycle?

Will taking finesteride alone cause changes in a woman’s cycle. I recently stopped birth control pills and continued the finesteride but have noticed some changes.

Finasteride is NOT approved or recommended for women, especially those who are of childbearing age. Even more importantly, finasteride can potentially cause birth defects if you were to stop your birth control and become pregnant. You need to speak with your doctor and address your issues. I can’t imagine why any doctor would prescribe this medication to you at your age.

Since there have been no studies (that I know of) in women of child bearing age, I would not know how it would affect the woman’s cycle. There was a small study on finasteride in women experiencing postmenopausal hair loss, but this is clearly not the case for you.

Does finasteride cause shedding?

In my experience prescribing it, I don’t hear of much complaints about shedding unless the hair loss is under rapid progression and the shedding was going on before the drug.

Does Finasteride Cause Hypothyroidism?

Propecia(Finasteride) cause hypothyroidism? I am on propecia for more than 2years now. My TSH is elevated in the last one year. I would like to know if Propecia has any impact on the thyroid glands. I do not have any symptoms of hypothyrodism. I am planning to go off propecia now. Appreciate your reply.

There is no connection between thyroid function and Propecia.

Does Finasteride Cause Hair Loss?

Does finasteride cause hair shedding? I’m just starting on fin, I’m 22 and have long hair and I don’t know how bad any potential shedding will be? Like are we talking clumps of hair where it looks like I have bald spots or just excess hair shedding, if fin does cause hair shedding?

I have heard that finasteride can rarely cause shedding in the first couple of months, then it stops. Any shedding that lasts more than 3 months is possibly due to the genetic hair loss you are treating.

A recent study shows conclusively that there is no association between male breast cancer and those people taking finasteride (Propecia).

Does Finasteride bring back hairline?

Finasteride, when it brings back the hairline, it is usually in a younger man (under 25) but I have seen it in a 33 year old as well. This is not common and the published literature suggests that it is rare and not to expect return of frontal hair with finasteride.

Does everyone’s hair (people with zero balding) go back a little at the temples?

95% of Caucasian men develop a mature hairline. changing the shape from a rounded juvenile hairline to a V shaped hairline which usually moves up about 3/4″ from the original juvenile position. In many other races (Arab, From India) the juvenile hairline may remain.
