Using Anti-Estrogen Drugs to Combat Propecia Side Effects?

Hi,

Just wondering whether you can comment on the use of anti estrogen drugs to combat side effects related to propecia (lowered libido, gynecomastia etc)?

I have just started on 0.5mg of Arimidex twice a week. I tried lowering propecia dosage but this decreased effectiveness and did not reduce side effects. Are any of your patients on Arimidex? what dosage?

cheers

Arimidex is an anti-breast cancer drug. I do not prescribe Arimidex or know of any of my patients who are on Arimidex. You should consult with your doctor before considering any changes to your medication. Also note that Arimidex can cause it own set of side effects. It is not a ‘walk in the park’ solution.

Using a Slant Board to Increase Blood Circulation in Scalp

Dear Dr.Rassman
Thank you firstly for your assistance and for answering previous question. My question, I have read that using a slant board is good for increasing blood circulation to scalp, 15 mins a day etc. Seems logical,is this okay to do after FUE surgery, I am nearly 2 weeks post-op. Many thanks again.

I had a patient who had gone to Brazil and amongst his many treatments for hair loss, he hung upside down for 20 minutes four times a day. He was told that it would increase his blood flow to his balding scalp. Bats are not bald so maybe that is where the people in Brazil got the idea. He continued to bald even after 6 months of upside-down treatment. Maybe it would work better in the Northern Hemisphere.

If you like the slant board, I do not see a problem using it. Just make sure the tilt does not distort your perspective. And yes, at 2 weeks post-op you are fine to hang upside down.

Using a Sauna While On Propecia

I understand that using a sauna can remove drug residues from the body. In view of this, my question is can you use a sauna while on propecia? or will it limit the effectiveness of propecia itself?

thanks

No, a sauna will not cause you to expel or remove Propecia from your body or limit its effectiveness.

Using a Concealer for a Hair Loss Miracle (with Photos)

This is a young woman with very bad see-through hair loss that recently visited my office for a consultation. She told me that it has had a devastating impact on everything about her life. In one visit to the office, we fixed up her hair with DermMatch with the result as shown below.

There was no surgery done here. Applying the DermMatch took just a few minutes. She felt reborn with what appeared to her as a full head of hair. Click the photos to enlarge:

Using a Blow Dryer After Applying Minoxidil?

Minoxidil leaves hair wet and it takes some time for it to dry sufficiently to be able to apply hair styling product properly. Would it be ok to use a blow dryer soon after applying minoxidil to dry the hair quicker? My concern is a dryer would make the minoxidil ‘evaporate’ before it has had time to be absorbed by the skin. What do you think? Many thanks.

I do not believe using a blow dryer will negatively affect the application of minoxidil on your scalp, but first just give the minoxidil a chance to dry on its own (10-15 minutes). You can try using the blow dryer on the low setting, but the evaporation will be mostly from the non-active alcohol in the solution and not the active minoxidil compound.

Used Estradiol patch, minoxidil & Bicalutamide in 4 months

The use of Bicalutamide and an Estradiol patch in this treatment plan is an extreme approach for men. The Bicalutamide and Estradiol are not in the Standard of Care so we don’t have a side effect profile on this drug in young men, but we do have side effects when used for prostate cancer. The Bicalutamide is a very strong anti-androgen which almost certainly will bring on ED and sexual dysfunction and the Estradiol is a feminizing hormone which might further impact a man’s sexual function. The minoxidil and dermaroller is standard in this approach. I would not recommend that the average guy go this direction in his treatment despite the remarkable results from these drugs. Do you have good sexual function? Is it worth giving up a sex life for the return of your hair?

Use of Avodart when planning a pregnancy

Will the use of avodart can damage the making of a child? Can it cause misdevelopment if the semen has traces of dutasteride? I have not found anything on this subject online, except women should not use it themselfs.

Best not to be on the drug when you are trying to get your wife pregnant
