Their is always so much talk about DHT being the root cause of Male Pattern Hair loss nearly everywhere one reads. I was just curious if their has been any other recent discoveries, excluding DHT, that may contribute or cause the condition?
For the genetic condition, it is the DHT that acts on the genetically sensitive hair follicle that causes hair loss. There are nother recent discoveries that I’m aware of relating to what you’re asking.

Hi, I just want to know: do you have many patients who have been on propecia for 8-10 years and yet still have a healthy head of hair on their heads?
Alternatively, do you have many patients who have taken propecia for a long period of time and have gone bald?
I have a number of patients who went to Mexico to get Propecia (finasteride) before it was sold in the United States (maybe 10 years or so ago). One in particular (24 years old at the time), who was balding in the crown, reversed quite nicely on Propecia and maintained that reversal without any progressive miniaturization over the 10 years. Because he was young, the drug worked beautifully. His crown was never transplanted but he did receipve alightly over 6000 grafts in the frontal area. He now has a crew cut.
I have not seen anyone who stayed on Propecia go bald, but I have seen many, many men who were taking it and decided to stop, who then went either very bald or very thin.

You might see an expert on hair loss (some dermatologists or hair transplant doctors might be helpful). The only FDA approved treatment available for women is topical minoxidil (Rogaine).

For the past 3 to 4 years, i am suffering from severe dandruff. I have also been diagnosed with PCOS last year which is now under control. Mine is long hair and this dandruff is also cyclic. Some times it is perfectly clean and sometimes at its worse. I have used topical products like diprovate with minimal improvement and the shampoos are also not giving the desired result. The dandruff is primarily flaky which is very embarrassing to me. Please suggest me if there is any solution to it. My hair is thinning day by day.
Dandruff may be the sign of a skin disorder like seborrhea, psoriasis, etc. You need to see a good dermatologist and find out if you have some scalp disorder causing what you are seeing and calling dandruff.

I believe all electronic equipment, such as the computer monitor you are staring at and the microwave oven you cook your meals in, emit radiation. These aren’t hazardous levels of radiation, though.
The ARTAS FUE robot likely emits some level of radiation like any other electronic equipment, but it isn’t anything to be concerned about. The FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health was likely involved at some level before the robot was made commercially available.
Dear doctor, I would like to know whether Propecia interacts with L-Montus.
I have been using Propecia for almost 1 year and it really did wonders to my hair. My hair texture is thickened and it covered almost all my thinning areas. Thanks for all the education you provide through this website.
I wasn’t familiar with the name L-Montus, so I researched it and found that it’s a nasal congestion medication made by Indian pharmaceutical company Fourrts. The medication is actually levocetirizine and montelukast.
Montelukast is more commonly known as Singulair, and levocetirizine is more commonly known as Xyzal. I don’t see any interaction problems for these medications with Propecia (finasteride), but double check with your prescribing physician.

I just wanted to know if there is any point of taking 5mg proscar for hairloss? From my research I think the answer is no but I have taken 5mg for last 6 weeks. I have noticed a lack of motivation and being a bit down but I am not exactly sure if they are related to taking the 5mg or due to other things in my life. Could there be any side effects for taking for the 5mg for the past 6 weeks? If I just cut down to the quarter Proscar tablet (1.25mg) will my body take long to readjust after having taking 5mg dosage?

There is no point in taking finasteride 5mg (Proscar) for treating hair loss. Aside from the increased side effect possibility, it will not work any better for hair loss. I really cannot comment on your lack of motivation and its relation to the medication. Maybe you have the holiday blues? Side effects from medications should generally reverse in about a week or two.

Could you be able to post some photos in HT on younger men (30-40) with advanced balding patterns (class 6 or higher) in your blog or at NHI site. I am 32 years old south asian considering HT with NHI, but I havent been able to find how younger patients fare with HT.

If you come to one of our Open House events, you will actually meet some men in their late 20s or early 30s who have been transplanted.
