Added dermaroller to finasteride treatment (photo – from Reddit)

After years of using Finasteride + Minoxodil, my thinning got worse in January. So I added a dermaroller 1.5 mm every 7-10 days. Major progress in 6 months!

Nice improvement. There is no doubt that the use of a dermroller induces wound healing which brings on hair growth to those who recently lost the hair. Add that to the finasteride that held on to your hair, and you are a fortunate man.

Add at Ankara Airport Turkey

These owls may be doing the surgery as their cost per hour is low! That $0.11/graft. Do you think that it will be sterile by a technique or done by an experienced surgeon? That includes hotel and airport transfers. Is this too good to be true?

Acupressure / Rubbing Fingernails Cures Hair Loss?

I can tell that you’re not big into homeopathic treatments (can’t say I blame you), but someone sent me this after I started losing some hair in my crown and I found it to be so completely ridiculous that I wanted to share. Apparently pressure points (Accupressure) under the fingernails will cause your hair to grow. I’d love your comments on this:

Yahoo India – Can rubbing of nails increase hair growth?

Thanks!

I just responded to a similar question regarding acupuncture earlier this week. I realize there are many people that swear by acupuncture or acupressure to relieve everything from headaches to constipation to sleep disorders (of course, I’m not saying I’d recommend it), but regrowing hair by touching your fingernails? That’s a new one to me. It makes no sense, but feel free to rub your fingernails and let me know the results.

Do You Actually Believe That There Will Be Stem Cell Breakthroughs?

Do you actually believe there will be a stem cell breakthrough in the next few years doctor? I want to believe this, but I have come to see these predictions as moving timelines. It is very disappointing that science has not be able to develop more effective treatments for genetic hair loss. Progress has been at a stand still since finasteride. I want to believe that one day I can have my hair back, but I think it is just wishful thinking.

Yes, I believe that there will be some breakthrough, maybe not stem cell but possibly something else. There are many people working on drugs that stimulate the growth of dormant hair follicles and I believe that is where the breakthrough will come from.

Actual limited frontal hair transplant post-op of 600 grafts at 4 days (photo)

The important take-away here is that within 4 days, with proper washing techniques, there is no scabbing present and nothing detectable short of a little tinge of pinkish color if you look close. All patients having a hair transplant should look like this within 4 days of the transplant. Some of the hairs that were placed already have shed so you can see why it is impossible to count the grafts after a few days.

Actor Taylor Lautner’s Hairline

Taylor LautnerHello Dr Rassman, just a quick one here. Does Taylor Lautner look to be displaying the signs of early MPB, or is he simply sporting a mature hairline? What Norwood class do you think he would he be?

I had to look up who this young man is (he’s in one of the Twilight movies), but it looks like he’s got a normal juvenile hairline, so a classification for hair loss does not apply. His rounded corners, which is typical of an immature hairline, has been lost in his recent photos but otherwise, I suspect he had the exact same hairline at 12 years old. There’s no early balding from the photos I’ve seen. He’s young though, so who knows where his hair will go.

Actor Patrick Stewart Discusses Balding on BBC (with Video)

Here’s an inspirational interview with Patrick Stewart (of Star Trek fame) conducted by the BBC. I think you will enjoy watching it, I know I did. Stewart talks openly about his experience with balding, dating and hair pieces.

Actor Kelsey Grammer’s Hair

Hi Dr. Rassman.
I wanted to ask your opinion of Kelsey Grammer’s hair – maybe it’s my imagination but he seems to have more hair lately than he used to. Do you think he may have had a transplant? If so, how many grafts would you estimate?

Recent photo and Older photo

The comparison photos do look like Kelsey Grammer (known for his work in sitcoms Frasier and Cheers) has more hair in recent years, but I cannot determine if he had a hair transplant.

But assuming that he did, if I had to make a guess of how many grafts he may have received to attain the look in the photo… I’d say more than a 1000 but less than 3000. Yeah, sort of a wild guess. The photos I’ve found make it difficult to really see his hair perfectly without image compression or different lighting conditions.

Actor Joe Rogan’s Hair Transplant?

Joe RoganI was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast and was really surprised when he mentioned that he won’t shave his head because he had a transplant a few years ago and has a scar. I always wondered why he DIDN’T have a transplant when I would see him on TV but was kind of surprised that he says he had one. Do you think he was misinformed as to what his eventual loss would be?

Your guess is as good as mine. I do not know the circumstance of actor/comedian/host Joe Rogan’s hair loss or the treatment he had. It’s possible that he had the surgery many years ago and had continued hair loss, but I really don’t know.

Someone might mention to him that we can treat his scar with either a scar revision or Scalp MicroPigmentation (SMP).
