Traction Alopecia in African Female (Photo)

I was having issues in the back of my head. 5 years ago, my frontal hair started thinning. Each year it got worse. I’ve seen 3 dermatologists (in Houston) confirming this diagnosis (CCCA). Can I get a hair transplant for this condition?

The picture strongly suggests traction alopecia; however, with three dermatologists confirming the diagnosis of Central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA), hair transplants will not treat this condition. Hair systems are the best option for you.

Toprol-XL and Hair Loss

dr. increased my toprol-xl from 50 mg to 100 can this cause hair loss? never noticed any loss or spots on my face until it was increased.

Toprol-XL is in a class of blood pressure medications (beta blockers) which, amongst other side effects, include hair loss. With women it is reversible, but in men it may accelerate genetic hair loss and may not be reversible.

Toppik and Sex (From Reddit)

A lot of girls need to touch men’s hair during sex, grabbing them all the time, running their fingers through them etc. Do you have any experience/stories/tips regarding this issue? Topomax and Lamictal Causing Hair Loss?

I am on Topomax and lamictal for epilepsy and have been experiencing hair loss problems since starting the topomax that seem to be worsening. I have been told it is a side effect of Topomax. Will this stop on its own? Is there anything I can take or anything I can do to mitigate the impact of topomax on my hair?

This is a subject you and your neurologist need to discuss. Many of these medications do cause hair loss. Drugs like minoxidil may work for men and women, and if you are a man, then Propecia may also help, but when the medications are working away at your hair as a side effect of the drug, then alternative drugs may be worth trying. This is a difficult problem, but you can not sacrifice your health for your hair.

Topical vs oral finasteride

Do you happen to know if topical fin is considered safer in terms of side effects then oral?

For those who have no side effects, oral finasteride is fine. For others, the topical may be a better solution as it is reported to have far less side effects.

Topical vs oral finaseride, how do they compare?

Would you say you’ve noticed good results with topical vs. oral finasteride? I just had a chat with my pcp today and he seemed to think topical was less effective.

The Golden standard is the pill which I suspect means that the topical is compared to it as how effective it is compared to the pill. I don’t think that is 1:1, somewhat less
